At the 9:00AM Mass today, Fr. Jose will administer the
Sacrament of Confirmation to Consuelo Aguilar Salomon.
As a parish community, we congratulate her and ask you to

MASS & COMMUNAL ANNOINTING OF THE SICK
The sick members of our community are invited to a parish celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
on Sunday, May 31st, at the 3:00PM Mass, followed by a
social at St. Joseph Center. The entrance from Newkirk Avenue, which is wheelchair accessible, will be open for the
occasion.
Parishioners who wish to pray with and for the sick, but
are not necessarily in need of the Sacrament, are also encouraged to attend the Eucharist.
DEANERY MASS FOR VOCATIONS
On Friday, June 5th, at 7:00PM at St. Agatha's Church
(7th Ave. & 48th St., Brooklyn), we will celebrate a special
"Mass for Vocations". The eight parishes who belong to our
deanery will come together to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life and to pray for
and with the women and men who are currently discerning a
call. Deacon Raphael Perez, who will be ordained a priest on
June 27th, will be the homilist. A reception will follow the
Mass in the lower church hall. All parishioners of St. Rose
of Lima are invited and encouraged to attend.
OTHER UP-COMING PARISH EVENTS:
• Eucharistic Procession on the Solemnity of Corpus
Christi, Sunday, June 7th at 10 AM. There will be no
12:45PM Polish Mass (10:45AM Mass will be bilingual).

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMS
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Our Elementary and High School Religious Education
Programs have come to an end for this school year. We
congratulate the children who came to class each week to
learn about our Catholic faith and their parents for their
support and cooperation. We could not have had such a
successful program if it were not for the sacrifice and
dedication of our parish catechists who volunteer their
time each week to share their faith with our children and
instruct them. On behalf of the entire parish, we thank
Cathy Cain, Diana Castillo, Denise Handal, Catherine
McConney, Faith McConney, Mary Lou Parise, Sylvia
Rivera-Vecchio, Marie Sarrazin, Felicia Tella, Eileen
Thornton, Adileni Vidals, Sheryl Vidals, and Delmira
Yard. We are also grateful for our substitute catechists
who help when called upon: Joanne Cusumano, Valerie
Durandisse, Josephine Gibson, Violetta Robinson,
Patricia Robertsen, Joan Spletzer and Pete Vecchio.
The disciples gathered on the fiftieth day after the
Resurrection were not keeping their first Pentecost. For
them, Pentecost was the fiftieth day after Passover, a feast
of the first fruits of the harvest. It was the second most
important feast of the year. Today, Jews gather on the eve
of the feast to study scripture and the law, and after the
feast begins at sundown, spend the day in joyful social
gatherings. The meaning of the celebration is the giving
of the law on Mount Sinai, so for Christians the
connection to the gifts of the Holy Spirit is obvious. In
Sicily and in the Pantheon in Rome, today the descent of
the Holy Spirit is enacted with a stunning ritual. Some
churches there have an “eye” in the roof open to the sky,
called an “oculus.” After the Gospel today, thousands of
rose petals fall from the oculus onto the assembly.
Churches and homes are decked in greenery and flowers
to express the new life the Holy Spirit brings on this, the
“Birthday of the Church.”

Fifty days after Easter Sunday we celebrate the
fulfillment of all God’s promises in the feast of Pentecost,
a feast that has sometimes been called the birthday of the
church. One last time we are reminded that we Christians
have received the Holy Spirit, not for our own benefit, but
to enable us to follow our Christian vocation.
The centerpiece of the scriptures for Pentecost is the
account in Acts of the Apostles of the sending of the Holy
Spirit to the disciples. The other readings for this Sunday
help us to understand what it means to live out our
Christian vocation. Paul’s letter shows us the gifts and
fruits that the Holy Spirit gives to us. John’s Gospel
reminds us that Jesus has sent all his disciples to share his
forgiveness and peace, through the power of the Holy
Spirit.
A PRAYER TO THE SPIRIT
Holy Spirit,
who sent Christ Jesus
to carry the Good news to the poor,
we pray to you:
Help us to continue your work
by serving the poor, our brothers and sisters.

UROCZYSTOŚĆ ZESŁANIA DUCHA ŚWIĘTEGO
Kiedy nadszedł dzień Pięćdziesiątnicy, znajdowali się
wszyscy razem na tym samym miejscu. Nagle dał się
słyszeć z nieba szum, jakby uderzenie gwałtownego
wiatru, i napełnił cały dom, w którym przebywali.
Ukazały się im też języki jakby z ognia, które się
rozdzieliły, i na każdym z nich spoczął jeden. I wszyscy
zostali napełnieni Duchem Świętym, i zaczęli mówić
obcymi językami, tak jak im Duch pozwalał mówić.
Przebywali wtedy w Jerozolimie pobożni Żydzi ze
wszystkich narodów pod słońcem. Kiedy więc powstał ów
szum, zbiegli się tłumnie i zdumieli, bo każdy słyszał, jak
przemawiali w jego własnym języku. Czyż ci wszyscy,
którzy przemawiają, nie są Galilejczykami? - mówili pełni
zdumienia i podziwu. Jakżeż więc każdy z nas słyszy swój
własny język ojczysty? - Partowie i Medowie, i Elamici, i
mieszkańcy Mezopotamii, Judei oraz Kapadocji, Pontu i
Azji, Frygii oraz Pamfilii, Egiptu i tych części Libii, które
leżą blisko Cyreny, i przybysze z Rzymu, Żydzi oraz
prozelici, Kreteńczycy i Arabowie - słyszymy ich
głoszących w naszych językach wielkie dzieła Boże.

TODOS SON ENVIADOS
Cincuenta días después del Domingo de Pascua,
celebramos el cumplimiento de todas las promesas de
Dios en la fiesta de Pentecostés, una fiesta a la que
muchas veces se ha llamado el cumpleaños de la Iglesia.
Se nos recuerda otra vez más que los cristianos hemos
recibido el Espíritu Santo, no para beneficio personal sino
para permitirnos seguir nuestra vocación cristiana.
El eje de las lecturas para Pentecostés es el relato en
los Hechos de los Apóstoles, cuando el Espíritu Santo es
enviado a los discípulos. Las demás lecturas para este
domingo nos ayudan a comprender qué significa vivir
nuestra vocación cristiana. La carta del apóstol san Pablo
nos muestra los dones y frutos que el Espíritu Santo nos
concede. El Evangelio según san Juan nos recuerda que
Jesús ha enviado a todos sus discípulos para que
compartan su perdón y paz, por el poder del Espíritu
Santo.

MISA Y UNCION COMUNAL DE LOS ENFERMOS
Los miembros enfermos de nuestra comunidad están
invitados a una celebración parroquial del sacramento de
la Unción de los enfermos el domingo 31 de mayo, a la
misa de 3:00 PM. Al final de la misa, habrá un social en
el Centro de San José. La entrada desde Newkirk Avenue,
que está adaptada para minusválidos, estará abierta para la
ocasión.
Los feligreses que deseen orar con y para los
enfermos, pero no necesariamente en la necesidad del
sacramento, también se les anima a asistir a la Eucaristía.
