From closed-loop control of individual systems to flexible automation of entire processes, the various courses
convey the fundamental, the principles and the properties of components used in automated processing and
production plant with the aid of animations and numerous experiments involving authentic equipment. Multiple
experiments cover investigation of controlled systems, determination of step responses and optimisation of
control loops. Training also covers the use of useful aids such as Bode and Nyquist plots in authentic
experiments.

IPA Virtual
IPA Virtual is a PC-based, graphic simulation system, which provides the virtual learning environment for the
Industrial Process Automation IPA1 training system. The software includes two variations of the model.
The first variant is a so-called stand-alone version, in which the model operates with integrated closed-loop
controllers and functions without any external control or software. The plotter incorporated into the program can
record step responses and from these it is possible to derive parameters for the controllers. These parameters
can then be tested using the in-built controllers without the need to use any additional software.
In the second version, the virtual model is programmed using Step 7, exactly as an authentic station would be.
The virtual model can then be controlled using software called PLCSIM.
The system covers all relevant areas from commissioning the compact workstation all the way to control loop
optimisation. The program developed to operate the simulation system can be uploaded to work directly with the
real compact station.
The following process control technology models are integrated into the simulation system:

IPA Virtual is a PC-based, graphic simulation system, which

Automation IPA1 training system. This system is programmed
like the real model using STEP 7 and is controlled via the
“PLCSIM” software. Furthermore, the model can be operated with
the integrated controllers without any additional software. The
system covers all relevant areas from commissioning the
compact workstation all the way to control loop optimisation. The
program developed to operate the simulation system can be
uploaded for work directly with the real compact station.

Integrated continuous (PID) and discontinuous (twoposition) controller
Characteristics plotter records all measured values over
time
Graphic evaluation of measured values for calculating
optimum controller parameters
Integrated operator panel including all of the pushbuttons,
switches and signalling lights required to operate the
system
For troubleshooting purposes various malfunctions, for
example, defective sensors and actuators can be
simulated
