PRIORITIES
In the first reading, the prophet Amos rages
against all those whose greed is so great that
they would close their eyes and hearts to the
needs of the poor among them. To make a
buck is one thing. Amos is saying. To make
it on the backs of the helpless is quite another.
In the second reading, Paul reminds us of our charge and
duty to pray. He issues a call to more expansive prayer—
prayer that should mark the daily life of Christians.
In the Gospel, Jesus describes the wholehearted effort of a
crafty servant who sees “downsizing” heading his way. Jesus
finds him a marvel and puzzles over why such cleverness is
limited to the world of commerce. Jesus wonders why those
who seek a “position” in the reign of God lack such wit and
wherewithal.
The second collection this week is for the Catholic League for
Religious Assistance to Poland and Polonia (Liga Katolicka).
Next weekend’s (Sept. 28-29) second collection is designated
for the 2013-2014 Annual Catholic Schools Appeal.
ANNUAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL APPEAL
The Annual Catholic Schools appeal is scheduled for the
weekend of September 28-29. We have many needs in our
school including refurbishing our copier machines which have
served us for over ten years as well as replacing some of the
aging computers.
This collection is being taken in all the parishes in the Diocese of Worcester. Parishes that operate schools retain the collection for their own use. Your September packet includes a
special envelope for this collection.
I understand the difficult financial situation in every family
but our school relies on this Annual Appeal. May God reward
your good heart and generosity on behalf of the children of St.
Joseph School.

FINAL MOMENTS OF LIFE
With harvest time past and the fast approaching of Autumn
with the change of weather and scenery, the issue of the meaning of human life inspires reflection and meditation. The most
important act of human life is—death. Christianity is approaching death not as a simple point at which life ends, but rather as a
pervasive dimension of one’s total existence which means that
death is not excluded from the experience of life. Death does
not merely represent the last moment in one’s life, but it casts
its shadow on the totality of life. One thing is clear, beyond any
doubt, that at the moment of death we end all activities, deeds,
thoughts, etc. that could matter in eternity. The moment of
death closes an important chapter of life and abruptly and forever ends the possibility of doing anything more for ourselves.
Therefore, from that moment on, we depend on our relatives
and friends for their prayers and good deeds on our behalf.
This brings to mind our departed loved ones who maybe
awaiting our assistance in purgatory.
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO SAINT JOSEPH
Great Saints have assured us that St. .Joseph can assist us in
needs of every kind. Nevertheless, he is particularly known for
help in family problems, financial needs, protection of purity,
defense against dangers, matters involving work or housing and
as Patron of a Happy Death. If you feel the need of obtaining
great favors from God through St. Joseph’s powerful intercession, please join us on Wednesday, Sept. 25th at 7:00pm for
the Novena and Devotion to St. Joseph. Members of the Holy
Rosary Sodality will carry our patron’s statue from the Chapel
of our Lady of Czestochowa to the Sanctuary.
We are grateful for the graces requested and offerings you
submit in the petition box. As you probably noticed the 7:00pm
mass on Wednesday is offered for all the intentions you wrote
on the available form.

125th ANNIVERSARY PILGRIMIGE TO POLAND
Under the spiritual leadership of Msgr. Czarnecki you will
discover treasures of Poland, homeland of Blessed Pope John
Paul II, with historic cities, such as Gdansk, Warsaw, Czestochowa, Zakopane and Krakow, colorful folklore, charming villages and inspiring religious shrines.
This special pilgrimage will leave Boston on June 24, 2014 and
return on July 5, 2014 at a reasonable cost of just over $3,000 per
person.

School 14th Annual Golf Tournament to be held on Saturday,
Sept. 28th at Dudley Hill Golf Club teeing off at 1:30pm or

allow time for registration and team pictures. Cost of a round of
golf, cart, player gift and dinner is only $100. You may join us
for only dinner at PAV at 6:30pm for $15.

Holy Rosary Sodality have many events scheduled to celebrate their 125th Anniversary beginning with the Annual Mass at
8:15am followed by a light breakfast and on Sun.,Oct. 6th.
SACRED HEART SOCIETY
The Sacred Heart Society Executive Board will hold its next
meeting in the school conference room on Sunday, Sept. 22nd
after 8:15am Mass. All board members are asked to attend.
On Sunday, Sept. 28th the Sacred Heart Society will sponsor
their Annual “Bakeless Sale” and Raffle in the school conference room from 8:00am until Noon. All are invited to support
this annual fund raiser. Refreshments will be served.

GYM UPDATE
It has been customary for major Catholic institutions to install
“The Rock of St. Peter” from the Vatican, into a new structure.
Following this noble tradition on Saturday, October 5th we will
install “The Rock of St. Peter” into the foundation of our new gym/
parish center/cafeteria.
Bishop McManus will celebrate Mass at
4:00pm and Archbishop Zimowski, President of the Pontifical
Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care, Vatican will be
homilist.
Since this will be the Family Mass, we invite all students and
parents to participate. The children’s choir, under the direction of
Robert Wojcik, will provide liturgical music. Following Mass we
will have a brief prayer service and blessing of “The Rock of St.
Peter” at the outdoor site. A reception for all the participants will be
held outdoors under a tent (weather permitting) or in the cafeteria.
This is a major event in our long journey of building the new gym
and therefore, we expect everyone would want to be part of this
joyful and historic day.
FALL FLOWERS
If you entered the Basilica from Whitcomb Street this weekend,
you probably noticed the colorful mums placed on the columns at the
sides of the stairs. These beautiful flowers were from Timothy and
Barbara West in the spirit of gratitude to God for His blessings.
This extra-ordinary task was accomplished through time and effort
of Sylvia & Fred Kitka and Joe Ziak, who transported, set up and
secured these plants. These dedicated parishioners created an
inviting atmosphere for all of us to enjoy.
May God bless our donors and our tireless and diligent
parishioners in making our Basilica such a special place.
YOUTH GROUP
September 22nd - 11:00am Sunday Youth Group Mass at Sacred
Heart Church - Youth Center Open House from 12:30-3:30pm.
Please come and meet YG members and learn all about great things
we are doing.
Donating cans and bottles is a great way for you to help the
Youth Group. All YG activities are funded through donations.
Returnables can be dropped off at St. Louis or at Sacred Heart. You

Death with Real Dignity: Love vs. Hardships-Continuing the
Discussion - will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28th from 9:00am until
noon at Assumption College. Three experienced presenters will
discuss the medical, moral and legal aspects of PAS and end-of-life

Open House at Notre Dame Academy, 425 Salisbury St.,

The Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass - will be held on
Sun., Oct. 6th at 3:00pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral. This annual liturgy in thanksgiving for many years of faithful witness to the sanctity of Christian marriage honors couples who are celebrating significant anniversaries (25th, 50th, etc. ) this year. A light reception
will follow in the Cenacle.
Couples should pre-register no later than Sept. 30. Please refer to

to make a reservation for this special event.
St. Peter Marian Junior-Senior High School (SPM) welcomes
prospective students and families to tour our educational facility
and new athletic fields, meet students, parents and staff on Sun.,
Oct. 6th from 1-4pm. SPM is the first Diocesan School to institute
the Nationally Accredited Project Lead the Way STEM Program
and offers a strong College Preparatory Curriculum highlighted by
over 200 Virtual High School Courses, 33 honors Programs and 12

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Classes will be held on Monday, Sept. 23rd from 5:30-6:30pm.
Confirmation classes - will also be held on Mondays from 5:306:30pm in the school with Fr. Gregory. Registration forms will be
available for those who have not yet registered. All parish students
who will be making their Confirmation this year, whether they attend public or private school, must attend these classes.
Religious education parents-we are looking for your help. For
security purposes, the doors of the school must remain locked while
classes are in session. Since there is no one in the office at St. Joseph School, we are looking for parents to sign up for one or more
nights to stay near the door during class time.
RCIA-for those who want to be baptized or become full members
of the Church, an initial meeting will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29th
after 9:30am Mass at the rectory.

Zasadniczym tematem dzisiejszej liturgii jest
właściwe używanie bogactw. W pierwszym
czytaniu rozbrzmiewa twardy zarzut proroka
Amosa zwrócony do kupców pozbawionych
skrupułów, którzy bogacą się kosztem ubogich:
fałszują wagi, sprzedają towary bez wartości,
podnoszą cenę, korzystając z potrzeby innych. Prorok ujawnia
w sposób bezwzględny ich oszustwa, a czyni to w imię Boga:
„Słuchajcie tego wy, którzy gnębicie ubogiego i bezrolnego
pozostawiacie bez pracy... Przysiągł Pan... nie zapomnę nigdy
wszystkich waszych uczynków”. Gwałty i oszustwa na szkodę
ubogich obrażają Boga, który jest ich obrońcą, „ojcem dla sierot
i dla wdów opiekunem”, i nakazuje odnosić się z wielkodusznością
do potrzebujących: „Przed ubogim swym bratem otworzysz swą
rękę i szczodrze mu udzielisz pożyczki, ile mu będzie potrzeba”.
