Just Another Snake Cult to dzieło jednego człowieka, multiinstrumentalisty Þórira
Bogasona, które na scenie przeszło już transformację od teatru jednego aktora,
przez ośmioosobowy zespół, a od dłuższego czasu bardzo sprawnie działa jako
magiczny duet. Twórca projektu zajmuje się elektroniką, w struny od gitary uderza
pałeczką perkusyjną, śpiewa i gra na cytrze (autoharp). Duet dopełnia kuzynka
Þórira, Helga, która czaruje za pomocą wiolonczeli.
Zapytani o to, jaki gatunek muzyczny reprezentują, odpowiadają: „Gramy miks
freak popu, psychedelic folk i bubble-gum surf, gustownie zwieńczony ambientową
indietroniką”. Utwory Just Another Snake Cult zawierają charakterystyczny klimat
kalifornijskiej psychodelii lat 60. połączonej z popową wrażliwością i
eksperymentem, wykorzystując różne techniki produkcji, co razem sprawia, że dwa
utwory nigdy nie brzmią tak samo.
Zespół wykazuje się ogromną wyobraźnią, zarówno muzycznie, jak i w związku z
oprawą swoich dźwięków, czego dowodem jest teledysk do utworu „Spell Of
Platonic Reversal”, pochodzącego z płyty „Cupid Makes a Fool Of Me”. Album
ukazał się w Islandii w listopadzie ubiegłego roku, a w tym miesiącu zaczął podbijać
brytyjski i niemiecki rynek muzyczny. Teledysk miał premierę na stronie magazynu
Clash Music.
Debiutancki album Bogasona zatytułowany „The Dionysian Season” ukazał się w
2010 roku i zyskał sobie przychylność odbiorców. W swojej muzyce tworzy on
ekscentryczną atmosferę nawiązującą do psychodelicznego popu, zagłębia się
również w lo-fi. Wokalnie Þórir wydaje się być w totalnie innym wymiarze, kiedy

odbija się echem od elektronicznych bitów i żywych partii instrumentalnych,
nadając utworom jedynego w swoim rodzaju, niesamowicie nawiedzonego
charakteru.

“… I decided the three of them would put me to sleep. A few seconds into their first
song, I had witnessed the coolest opening of a show at the Airwaves 2012. The guy
in the middle, singer/guitarist/things-master/ringleader, runs across the stage,
jumps over the barricade and breaks into singing and dancing. The sincere kind
might I add. No shenanigans. I’m swooned. [...] That kid has got some balls. He
obviously doesn’t give a fuck. Right there, I’m on Just Another Snake Cult’s side. In
