dlaczego dzis, w dobie cyfrowej, zdj~cia nadal maj~
dla nas wartosc emocjonaln,\. Generowanie wizerunk6w
jest r6wniei, a moze przede wszystkim, generowa-
niem uczuc. Agata ujawn ia bowiem bolesny paradoks,
mirno, iz wiemy. ze fotografia utracila jut swoj,\
niewinnosc, nadal, lub wbrew temu, chcemy jej
wierzyc.
Projekt Agaty przynosi jeszcze jedn~ reneksj~ krytyczne spojrzenie na "fotografi~ jako domen~
kobiet", kt6ra gromadzi wspomnienia, rodzinne
historie, buduje i wywoluje emocje. Pami~tajmy, ze
przeciei jeszcze nie tak dawno teoretycy polecali
fotografi~. jako "idealne medium
dla kobiet",

manipuluje tym przekonaniem i poddaje je w w~t­

Women Should Take More Photographs
In her latest project, "Yes That Is No", Agata Zbylut has "tried on" the part of a bride.
Her performance is perfect.

GETS AN IMPRESSION OF TOUCHING the point whe re
"identifying" gets juxtaposed with "imagining".
Has Agata ever reall y experienced this? One is
not perceiving any longer that we are watching
the "double unreality": the author has swapped
her own likeness for the silhouette of the actua l
character. The hyper real world does not cover
the category of the "more true". It is ruled by
conven tion , thus everything is an issue of
fitting. And Agata has been a perfect actress... It
is enough that the face, the event actually is in
the picture book, on a snapshot, in the screen;
one puts more confidence in these than in
one's memories. That is why the artist has
ironically stated that since she was already a bride
in the picture, she does not have to go
through a real life ce remony. She knows "how it looks
li ke".

Agata Zbylut, "in a feminine way" wonders why
today, in the digital era, snapshots still carry an emotional quality. First of all, generating images means
generating feelings. Agata has revealed a bitter paradox,
knowing that photography has long lost its innocence,
we still desperately try to believe in it.
The project by Agata has brought some more
food for thought - a critical outlook on "photography
as the feminine area"; full of memories, family stories,
built up emotions. Let us remember that not long ago
theoreticians recommended photography as "an ideal
medium for women", and not for artistic reasons at
all. Yes, women should take more photograph s. Agata
ht,ls been manipulating this statement and questioning
it from "inside": both, increasing "emotional " features
of her works and being their "main c haracter". After
all "if she pretends to be a bride so perfectly, she is
likely her" to paraphrase Baudrillard . •
