So he said to the gardener, “See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil?” July 3, 2016 Perhaps, that is why in St. Paul’s famous hymn he includes an almost overlooked factor: love is patient. (1 Cor, 13:4) So is mercy. Mercy refuses to take the easy route of condemning and destroying the unproductive present. It always sees a deeper possibility that has not been actualized and works to create the conditions for that possibility to emerge. July 3, 2016 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time PEACE The greeting of peace at Mass adds substance to a message of today’s readings: peace is relational. When we greet in peace the person near us at Mass, we share the touch of a handshake or embrace, sincere eye contact, and friendly words. The scriptures speak of a similar peace. The first reading from Isaiah describes the peace of the holy city, Jerusalem, a place of prosperity and comfort where the “LORD’s power shall be known to his servants” (Isaiah 66:14c). The Christian understanding of peace changes slightly. Paul writes of the “peace and mercy” on all who are created anew. Jesus describes a feeling of peace that will rest on those who accept his disciples and their message. Peace is both an absence of strife and a personal blessing. May we always and sincerely bring peace to our own lives as we share it with others. PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Christ's followers were skeptical when He preached the reality of His Body and Blood as food and drink. St. John said, "many of His disciples withdrew and no longer went about with Him." Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did not understand any more than those who left Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternaFED BY THE LORD Jesus’ words “This is my body” and “This cup is the new covenant in my blood” were only part of his table blessing. July 3, 2016 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 13 Szukanie Dookoła "Pan prosi nas, przede wszystkim o to, by... nie potępiać". Rzekł, więc do ogrodnika: "Popatrz! Miłosierdzie odmawia podjęcia łatwej drogi potępienia i niszczenia nieproduktywnych rzeczy. Copyright © John Shea Page 14 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 3, 2016 Wspólnota św.
