YELL2 launch
The Young European Love Languages 2 project officially launched in December
2012 in Cham, Germany. The ‘kick-off’ meeting for the project was hosted by
the project coordinator, Volkschochschule im Landkreis in Cham and attended
by project partners from the UK (Language Education & Partnerships Ltd) and
Turkey (Izmir University of Economics).
The team spent two days together planning the detailed activities that they
will engage in over the current year (2013). The project team members were
enthusiastic about working together to make a positive impact on language
education across Europe, bringing benefits to both teachers and learners.
The Yell2 project
The YELL 2 project is a Key Activity 2 Languages Accompanying Measure Project
supported by the Lifelong Learning Programme.
The main aim of the project is to disseminate the results of the European
Language Label Award winning “YELL Network” (www.yell-project.eu) and
raise awareness of its main product the Virtual
Documentation Centre, which hosts an array of
resources designed to improve language learning
and encourage creative teaching to inspire more
young learners to learn languages.
The project aims to extend the user base of the Virtual Documentation Centre
AND to enhance the resource by gathering additional Best Practice resources
from around Europe.

Excellence of the Month
The YELL2 team are currently involved
in the generation of new network
members through a range of different
activities. This is despite the success
of the original YELL project, as
the activities have as one of their
objectives, a focus on developing
the YELL network across a broader

As a sneak preview of what you can
find in the Virtual Documentation
Centre, and indeed in the January
e-bulletin, we are delighted to
feature an example of Best Practice
that has been shared with us by
Joel Josephson. We hope you enjoy
PopuLLar as much as we do:

The visual design developed as part
of YELL2 reflects the original design with an adapted logo and consistent
colour scheme to ensure that the two projects are appreciably related, though
new graphic elements, in particular the numeral ‘2’, have been introduced to
create a perceptible distinction between first project and second project.
The receiving students then have to
comprehend the songs and translate
into their native language and record
their version for sharing.
The first groups of students in Czech,
Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the
UK have completed their videos with
incredible results.

Virtual Documentation
Centre (VDC)
As it has already been stated the
Virtual Documentation Centre was
developed through the original YELL
project, recipient of the prestigious
European Language Label Award.
The Virtual Documentation Center is an
on-line database of examples of Best
practice in the field of innovative and
creative ways of language learning
in non-formal and informal contexts,
selected by the partners of the YELL
project.
Before publishing the profile, the YELL team will check the data.
Share your own Best Practice
The success of the Virtual Documentation Centre to date has been down to the
willingness and enthusiasm of people like you in sharing your great Learning
and Teaching resources with this growing community.
YELL2 is really about growing not only the community of users, but also the
community of contributors to the resource, those that have Best Practice to
share with others.
As a member of the newtork you are invited to share your Best Practice with
us by completing a simple online questionnaire:
www.survs.com/survey/MGPFDAIDQZ
All contributors to the Virtual Documentation Centre will be credited, along
with their host institutions.
One example of Best Practice will be selected each month to be featured in the
YELL2 e-bulletin, which will be circulated to a wide European audience.
So don’t be shy about the great things that you and your colleagues do, come
forward and YELL about them!
Here you can look up interesting
language methods, learn about
new language learning ideas and
teaching concepts or find innovating
educational tools.
At the time of this writing the
Virtual Documentation Centre was
showcasing and making available
over 120 examples of Best Practice.
You can take advantage of these
resources for you and your learners
by joining the YELL network and
accessing the resources from the
YELL2 web site:
www.yell2-project.eu
