Wraz z niemieckim Forst (L.) przynależą geograficznie do Obniżenia Dolnołużyckiego – pradoliny obfitującej w bagniska, torfowiska i rzeki. The region encompassing the Lubsko, Jasień, Brody Counties as well as the German town of Forst (L.) is a dream place for those wishing to relax far from the main tourist routes. The vast forests – captivating with silence, clear air and abundance of the forests’ undergrowth – are the region’s great treasure; in addition to the lovely towns and villages boasting interesting architecture, castles and palaces. The bicycle path linking the above four counties embraces the region’s most interesting sites, allowing you to fully enjoy its richness. Sebastian Górski Location and directions en Tomasz Maciejczyk the regional road from Zielona Góra to Zasieki. Residents of Poland’s south can use Route 18, which is the extension of the A4 highway toward Berlin: exit onto Route 27 toward Żary, and then follow Route 287 to Lubsko and Jasień (follow the road signs for Krosno Odrzańskie). Unfortunately, train connections are not available; however, this gap is filled by PKS (National Transport Corporation) buses and private mini-buses that provide good transportation between Zielona Góra, Żary and Gubin for visitors not travelling by car. de Lage und Anfahrt Die Gemeinden Lubsko, Jasień und Brody liegen im südwestlichen Teil der Woiwodschaft Lubuskie (Lebus) im Kreis Żary. 1.The vicinity of Lubsko 2.Żurawno Lake en The Lubsko, Jasień and Brody Counties are located in the southwest of the Lubusz Voivodship in the Żary district. Together with the German town of Forst (L.), they geographically constitute part of the Lower Lusatian Subsidence – the ancient river valley abundant in fens, peat bogs and rivers. The regional roads from Żary to Gubin and from Zielona Góra to the German border in Zasieki intersect in the largest town of the area, Lubsko. Spośród rzadkich ptaków, które można tu spotkać, trzeba wymienić orła bielika, kanię, dudka i bociana czarnego, z chronionych ssaków – wydry i bobry, a owadów – np. jelonka rogacza i pazia królowej. Miejscowe lasy obfitują w zwierzynę łowną. Mają tu swoje ostoje jelenie, sarny, dziki, lisy, bażanty, kuropatwy i wiele innych gatunków. Sporo tu też roślin chronionych wpisanych do Polskiej Czerwonej Księgi. 5 Rzeźba terenu jest urozmaicona i choć najwyższe wzniesienia rzadko przekraczają 150 m n.p.m., to jednak różnice między najniższymi a najwyższymi punktami wynoszą nawet 100 m. Takie ukształtowanie terenu, to wynik działalności lodowca, który topiąc się 16 tys. lat temu, utworzył dwie ogromne rzeki, a te wyżłobiły doliny i urwiska. Region obfituje w naturalne jeziora, są tu też dziesiątki stawów. en en Nature Forests constitute almost half of the territory of the above counties, which is highly above the national average. While hiking through the local woods, you can come across inland dunes. Among the rare birds of the area are the white-tailed eagles, kites, hoopoes and black storks; among the protected mammals – otters and beavers; while among the insects: e.g. the stag beetles and the common yellow swallowtail. The local woods are abundant in game. The following animals have their habitat here: deer, roes, boars, foxes, pheasants, partridges and many others. Many protected plants present here have been inscribed in the Polish Red Book (of Endangered Flora Species). The terrain is diverse and although the highest elevation is rarely more than 150 m above sea level, the differences between the lowest and the highest points are as high as 100 m. Such topography is the result of the glacier melting 16,000 years ago that created two vast rivers, which gouged valleys and precipices. The region is abundant in natural lakes and ponds. de de Natur Wälder umfassen fast die Hälfte der genannten Gemeindegebiete, was den nationalen Mittelwert übersteigt. Zwierzęta sprowadzane były z Polski i Śląska. en Jasień The first mention of the village of Gozewa appears in the list of properties Otto III transferred to the Nienburg Abbey in 1000. The first record of the German name Gassen dates from 1310. Jasień became a town in 1660, but until the end of the 19th century, it constituted property of the local nobility. Residents obtained self-governance only in the mid-19th century. Since that time the town has developed rapidly thanks to its industralization. Today, Jasień has a population of about 4,500. Triangular market square The Jasień market square is actually a triangle, which makes it unique on a national scale (apart from Jasień, only two more towns in Poland have triangular market places). Interregional fairs of cattle and horses were held here between the 17th and the end of the 18th centuries. Wewnątrz kościoła możemy podziwiać polichromowany barokowy strop, będący dużym fragmentem stropu przeniesionego tutaj z nieistniejącego już Kożuchowskiego Kościoła Łaski, współczesny ołtarz przedstawiający sceny z życia Chrystusa i przechowujący pięć relikwii świętych. W zewnętrzną ścianę świątyni wmurowano tablicę upamiętniającą 200. rocznicę nadania Jasieniowi praw miejskich. Obok niej stoi najmniejszy w Polsce krzyż pokutny. Ma on jedynie 37 cm wysokości i 8 cm grubości. Wykonano go z połowy kamienia młyńskiego. Jasień: Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Jahrestag des Erhalts der Stadtrechte erinnert, eingemauert. en Tomasz Maciejczyk en Next to the church stands Poland’s smallest penitential cross. It is only 37 cm high and 8 cm deep. It was made of half of a millstone. As legend explains, the cross was placed on the death site of a certain Cossack who fell sick during the chase after Napoleon’s army and stayed in Jasień. After the soldier got well, he began drinking, started brawls and traded vodka in front of the church. The town people complained to the Russian officer and he clubbed the rioter to death. 1.Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Jasień 2.A penitential cross near the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary Jasień: The Palace. Unfortunately, in 1964, when the building was managed by the Peasants’ Self-Help Cooperative (Samopomoc Chłopska), the palace was “modernized” and the stuccowork was removed, among others. Worth noting today is the palace’s tympanum ornamented with stuccos dominated by the panoply motif. The coats of arms of the Rabenau and Haugwitz families have been preserved above the doors. Nowadays, the palace is in private hands and is, sadly, falling into ruin. de de Entlang des Wegs Jasień: pałac. Średniowieczne miasto opierało swą gospodarkę na wyrobie sukna, warzeniu Sebastian Górski piwa, szewstwie, garncarstwie i innych zawodach rzemieślniczych obsługujących z pewnością okoliczne wioski. Lubsko, ciągle zmieniając przynależność państwową, dzieliło los regionu. Jego władcami byli Piastowie, margrabiowie Miśni, królowie czescy, elektorzy brandenburscy, Sasi, cesarze niemieccy. Do 1808 r. miasto znajdowało się w prywatnych rękach. Miejscowość szczęśliwie uniknęła zniszczeń w 1945 r., dzięki czemu można podziwiać niezmienioną od wieków zabudowę rynku i przyległych doń ulic. UM Lubsko First mentions of Lubsko date from 1283, when Henry the Illustrious Margrave of Meissen issued a document regulating legal and economic aspects of the town that justified its name – Sommerfeld. However, archeological research shows that settlement existed on Lubsko territory in pre-Christian times, and the area was inhabited by Lower Sorbs. The original village was most likely a merchant hamlet developing at the foot of the local castle. The medieval town based its economy on cloth manufacture, beer brewery, shoemaking, pottery and other craft occupations Die ersten Erwähnungen von Lubsko stammten von 1283. Świątynia zyskała wtedy piękne gwieździste i sieciowe sklepienia. Powstał wówczas również nowy szczyt wschodniej elewacji – schodkowy, zdobiony prostokątnymi blendami, a zwieńczony sterczynami i sygnaturką. Również XIII-wieczna wieża została ozdobiona późnogotycką iglicą i renesansową attyką. Wnętrze kościoła wzbudza zachwyt. This relatively modest (on the outside) Gothic church, adjacent to the Lubsko Town Hall, boasts a magnificent interior. The church’s location has most likely remained the same since the early 12th century, although the first mention of the church dates from 1315. Initially, the church was most probably Roman, as manifested by its portal, while its current structure results from the reconstruction after the 1496 town fire. The said reconstruction, during which the church was also enlarged, lasted 20 years. The church was enhanced by the beautiful ribbed and lace-like vaults, and a new top of the eastern elevation – a corbie gable ornamented with rectangular blind arches, topped with pinnacles and a fleche. The 13th-century tower was decorated with the late Gothic steeple and a Renaissance attic. The church’s interior is breath taking.
