No doubt the discovery happened at many different times in many different places over a very long period. Autor: Agnieszka Szefer Konsultant: Wojciech Lisowski Pottery: from 6500 BC One of the most useful of all human discoveries is pottery. Nobody can say who invented first pots but they changed the life of people. First potters made pots from clay and didn’t decorate them but we know that today’s China is the most colorful but also the most expensive “pottery” ever. The Egyptian papyrus: 3000 BC The discovery of an easily portable substance to write on is almost as old as writing itself. Around 3000 BC, in Egypt, people started making a flexible smooth surface, which accepted and retained ink. Knitting: from the 3rd century AD Knitting is very simple but extremely hard to imagine. It is likely to be one of the few technological developments in ancient history to have an actual inventor. Knitting first appeared in the Roman empire in the 3rd century AD. The earliest examples which survived were socks (found in tombs in Egypt). 1. Where were the first knitted parts of clothing found? 2. What was of the colour of clay and now is colourful? 3. What did the people learn before they could make houses? 4. What are the characteristic features of papyrus? 5. Which invention, in your opinion, changed the history of a human being? 6.
