Convection-based functioning of radiators for free standing stoves
enables 5-40% heat recovery from exhaust gases. They increase the heat
output with lower fuel consumption. Made of steel sheet, covered with pulver

Convection heat exchangers
Convection heat exchanger are mounted on smoke pipes of fireplace inserts
as separate elements or as a multi-piece set. They improve heat output
by about 5-30% depending on exhaust gases temperature in the pipe, air
temperature in distributor as well as active areas of heat exchanger.
Their functioning is based on thermal convection.

Airvent
Airvent serves as a source of fresh air uptake for the rooms. Made of
galvanized painted white steel sheet. On the outside it is equipped with a
net protecting the installation against insects and rodents. Additionally, it is
furnished with a canopy preventing rainfall from entering the duct. On the
inside, there is a silencer, a dust filter and a regulating shutter.
Airvent is easily adjustable to any wall width.
Attention! Airvent is recommended to be mounted in each and every room,
especially in those with fireplace in.

Electronic flame controllers (ERS) navigates the combustion process starting
from the ignition stage to finish with the extinction. Controller ERS 01 is
intended for navigating inserts and stoves. A set of combustion modes
dedicated for and adjusted to each and every model of stove and Jøtul’s
inserts makes it an outstanding feature of this product.
With the first activation of the product, the controller takes over all the
functions responsible for regulating the amount of air required to achieve and
maintain appropriate combustion conditions. Therefore in accordance with
the set mode, the controller ignites, maintains the temperature within
the values of ± 10 °C and extinguishes fire in the fireplace. Electronic flame
controller ERS informs the user about lack of fuel or too low temperature of
exhaust gases. It also alarms about fireplace’s overheating. When the burning
cycle is over, the choke valve is shut down in order to prevent the fireplace and
the accumulating mass HSS from cooling down.

Pipe fitting heating system

Pipe fitting system, which consists of wound smooth-walled Spiro pipes,
elbows and tees, characterizes with the lowest air flow resistance. Isolation
made of 2cm thick mineral or glass wool, placed on aluminum foil prevents
from heat losses. The elements of the system are mounted together with
the use of Spiro pipe connectors. The pipe fitting system is based on 125 and
160mm diameter pipes.
The pipe fitting system is recommended to be used in the horizontal position
up to 10m distance. The system’s effectiveness decreases with the increase
of the number of elbows and fitting systems used. Each and every heating
system installation is to be treated as separate. Untypical building conditions
may force the necessity of varied systems. On selecting the most effective
one, we should remember to use the element with the lowest flow resistance.
Periodical installation cleaning is highly recommended. Cleaning of shorter
sections can be performed with the use of round vacuum cleaner’s brush.
As for longer sections, cleaning ought to be commissioned to a company
specializing in ventilation and air conditioning systems.

The simplicity as well as easiness of installation contribute to the popularity
of Aluspiro heating system. Expendable to a length of 2,5 m pipes are to be
isolated on aluminium foil with 2 cm thick mineral wood. Longer sections
are built with connectors and assembly bolts. Outlet grates with regulation
mounted at the ends of Aluspiro pipes help to achieve the optimum
temperature in the heated rooms. Aluspiro systems are recommended to be
used in horizontal configuration up to 5 m in distance. The effectiveness of
the system is reduced with the increase in the number of bends and curves. In
order to minimize the air flow resistance, Aluspiro system can be coupled with
fitting system i.e.: elbow pipes.

The system comprises of ducts and fitting pipes with 15 x 5 cm in crosssection, isolated with 2 cm thick mineral or glass wool placed on aluminum
foil. This system has low air flow resistance and is easy to install. Attaching
ducts and fitting systems to the ceiling or walls is carried out by means of
clamp hoops. Small ducts’ dimensions enable placing them under the concrete
layer or inside cardboard walls. Individual elements of duct heating system are
joined together with the use of duct connectors and assembly bolts.
The duct heating system is recommended to be used in horizontal systems up
to 6 m in distance.
The system’s effectiveness decreases with the increase of the amount of
elbows and fitting pipes used.
Periodical cleaning is highly recommended. Cleaning of shorter sections
can be performed with the use of round vacuum cleaner’s brush. As for
long sections, these are to be commissioned to a company specializing in
ventilation and air conditioning systems.
During the process of designing the hot air heating system, it is crucial to
reduce the number of elbow pipes to the essential minimum due to the

domestic law.

In this system hot air is pressed through the fan into a dividing box which
distributes the heated air throughout the rooms. In order to dampen the fan’s
operation, the system requires pipes with equal-loudness effect as well as
a diffuser. Apart from the diffuser, an air filter can be used in this system,
provided that it will be easily accessible during the periodical cleaning.
In case of any electricity supply brakes, the system does not function.
Therefore to ensure the hot air flow from the distributor, it is recommended
to mount two decompression grates on ø 150 pipes which are placed in the
fireplace casing.
Supplementing the system with a fan regulator enables dosing the amount
and speed of pressed air, which affects the amount of noise generated by the
operating installation. The hot air fan system is recommended to be used in
horizontal position up to 20 m distance.

Technical data
3G fireplaces
The third generation of stoves and fireplace inserts (3G) is
the next step to attain more effective heat recovery. Up to
now there has been a huge energy loss in open fireplaces
with efficiency of 15-20%, plain ones with glass door and
uncontrolled air inflow (40-60%) and finally contemporary
furnaces with advanced structures (more than 70%
efficiency).

As opposed to older generations of products, 3G fireplaces
and furnaces recover heat energy from exhaust gases. It is
achieved through additional devices which are mounted
between the hearth and a smoke duct. These are available
convectors and radiators (1), water exchangers (2) and last
but not least accumulating masses HSS (3). Therefore, using
3G heat receivers allows to obtain more energy (from 4 to 12
kW) and to save up to 30% of fuel.
It is recommended to combine 3G fireplaces with electronic
flame controller ERS, which optimize the combustion
process – from kindling through refueling to end up with fire
extinction. Electronic flame controller ERS control the set
temperature and steer the amount of air inflow required for
kindling and burning process.

Fireplace insert (1) is connected to the smoke duct (2) by
means of a set of transition pieces and steel pipes (3). In
order to secure a safe and stable connection, one should
use a chimney crossing (4) which permits flexible and tight
connection of the pipes with the chimney.
Fireplace insert is provided with fresh air needed for
combustion by a 100mm diameter pipe (5). By using a choke
valve with flexible regulation (6) it is possible to dose the
amount of air for a correct combustion process. Exhaust
gases are carried off the insert’s combustion chamber (1) and
led to the smoke duct (2).

Hot air distribution
Operation of heating system is based on using convection
heat. The air (7) warmed to room temperature flows under
the fireplace insert (1) and is heated up in the space between
fireplace’s body and its cover (8). Heated air flows up
towards the top part of a distributor (9) and then divides.
Next the heated air flows into the rooms through aluminum
Spiro pipes (10), galvanized pipes (11) and ducts (12). The
pipes’ and ducts’ outlets are furnished with wall grates
with regulation, which dispense the appropriate amount
of heated air into the rooms. However, there are also wall
grates without regulation (13) and these are installed on the
fireplace’s surrounding. In order to prevent the surrounding
from cracking when it is adjacent to a wall, it is necessary to
ventilate the space above the hot air distributor with the use
of the grate (14).

Water solutions

The idea of water solutions assumes that heat needed for
water heating can be obtained only from exhaust gases.
This allows to retain high temperature in the combustion
chamber while reducing the temperature of exhaust gases.
Water solution can work with radiators and floor heating
systems fed by heat pumps, solar panels and central heating
stoves which work on solid fuel, gas, oil and electricity. Water
solution can be also used as a single heat source as well as a
municipal water heater. The best heating results are achieved
by combination of water solution with central heating and
municipal water heating systems through a buffer tank.
Water exchanger with combustion tubes
Water exchanger for Jøtul I 18 (1) is made of cylindrical steel
sheet with a system of combustion tubes inside (2). Exhaust
gases heat up water which flows into the system through the
inlet (4) situated in the bottom part of the exchanger. Heated
water is received in the top part of water solution by means
of a flange (5). Then vermiculite baffle plate dispenses equal
portions of exhaust gases and directs them to each and every
combustion tube.
Complete nominal heat output of water solution for Jøtul I 18
amounts to 24 kW (9 kW with water exchanger) or 25 kW
(11 kW with water exchanger).

Water exchanger for Jøtul I 570 (1) is made of double-walled
cylindrical steel sheet. Between the walls of water exchanger
there is a space which can hold around 16 dm3 of water.
Vermiculite baffle plate (4) together with ceramic settling
tank for solid particles installed coaxially, form secondary
combustion chamber. Exhaust gases with the temperature
of 300C flow (2) between the ceramic settling tank and
double-walled steel cylinder. This flow heats up water (5)
and cools down exhaust gases to 200 °C. Heated water is
collected in the top part of the exchanger and directed into
the heating system (6).
Complete nominal heat output of water solution for
Jøtul I 570 amounts to 25 kW, with 11 kW for water exchanger.
Water exchanger for Jøtul I 530 / Jøtul I 80 RH inserts has
the same structure. Nominal power of the above exchanger
amounts to 9 kW.
Each water exchanger is accompanied by a brush which
shape corresponds to the cross-section of gas flues
(important for smooth cleaning).

Accumulating mass HSS
Accumulating heat exchangers (Heat Storage System - HSS)
are made of ceramic materials with big heat storage capacity. Their function is to recover and accumulate energy from
exhaust gases. HSS consists of several elements (with total
weight ranging from 70 to 200kg) and adapters, which allow
HSS to be connected to both the hearth and smoke pipes.
Heat accumulating HSS elements heat up during the process
of combustion. Next they cool down and emit accumulated
heat once the cycle is over. Using HSS system in the installation, lengthens heating stage of a fireplace or stove by
several hours. In effect, the temperatures in heated rooms
are more equaled.
Accumulating mass HSS 07
Accumulating mass HSS 07 consists of five ceramic discs with
a complex duct in the centre. Joints of particular elements
are isolated by means of glass wool rope and four bolts.
Made of refractory concrete (with scattered steel reinforcement) and magnetite compounds, fitting pipes boost thermal conductivity and heat accumulating capacity.

HSS elements are made of ceramic mass of magnetite compounds with apparent density which amounts to 2,82g / cm3
. Depending on the model, the system comprises of three
to seven ceramic fitting pipes and a steel adapter which is
customized to particular Jøtul fireplace insert.
Considerable freedom in customizing the ultimate shape of
exchanger is one of the greatest advantages of the system.
The user can choose from circular and elliptic fitting pipes
with different weight and different accumulating capacity.
Due to MgO content, the fitting pipes are mounted on smoke
pipes. Tightness of the installation is provided on particular
segments of pipes.
