LET US WITNESSES OF CHRIST!
The Lord Jesus said of himself, " I am the light of the world" (John 8: 12). In today's Gospel, Jesus
speaks words directed to us and our roles:" You are the light ofthe world"( Mt 5:14). God has called
us to constantly give him witness. It is through Christ that God wants us to be visible in the world and
illuminate the darkness of this world. Anyone who admits Christ into their heart, receives him and is
also recognized by the people as a witness, and provides the light of Jesus in the world. Christ clearly
says in today's Gospel: ., You are the salt of the earth" and" You are the light ofthe world. " (Mt
5: 13)
As witness of faith in today's world, Christians are persecuted. Every three minutes a Christian martyr
is killed. Every year, one hundred and seventy thousand Christians die for their faith. Why? Because
they are the light of the world, but the world that wants to live in darkness cannot stand the light.
They are the salt of the earth and they want to give direction to the world. We must remember that the
power of the testimony of the light and the salt does not belong to us, nor does it happen by our
power. It is the light of Christ and it is the flavor of Christ. We need to be tried, in any way that the
light is not obscured by sin. We must do nothing that would spoil the taste.
So that our witness and testimony of faith may be alive, strong, clean, convincing and demonstrate to
others the way to God, we must constantly be united with the Lord Jesus through daily prayer,
listening to His Word and try to fulfill it. We should participate in the Mass and receive Him with a
pure heart in the Eucharist. We have to be penetrated by Christ's Light of faith, hope and love for
God and other people.
Christ wants to shine through us to the world, which continues to be in the dark. What we possess is
critical, because without Christ there is only darkness in the world. Where there is no Christ, there is
darkness! Christians are there to be salt of the earth, because without the salt the world is plunged into
complete anarchy. If we are the salt of the earth, if we fulfill the task of Christ, we become the hope
for the world. We guarantee the separation of light from darkness, good and evil. We guarantee the
meaning of life for ourselves and we demonstrate it to others. It is a great responsibility for us! Christ
wants to use us continuously for such a blessed mission in the world, and be proud of who we really
are, because Christ says to us today: "Your light must shine before others, that they may see your
good deeds and glorifY your heavenly Father. " (Mt 5: 16) We have to be responsible and agree with
Christ in every moment and in different aspects of our lives: personal, family, social, political, but we
must never think that the light comes from us, because it is Christ
that shines through us! If we obey Him, He shines in us with all
Your splendor - and this light exists so that people will glorify the Father

Many of you have responded to the Annual Catholic Appeal mailing from Cardinal George. On behalf of
those served by the ministries and services funded by the ACA, we thank you for your gifts. If you received

This year, the theme of the Appeal is: "You are the temple of God". In his first letter to the Corinthians Paul
instructs that each of us is a temple of God. God lives within us and He asks us to share
our gifts with others.
As we contemplate His gifts to us, we should also reflect on our gratitude for these gifts.
Your financial support for the work of our parish, our Archdiocese and the Church
throughout the world is, in fact, one way to express this gratitude. Please give generously

~ A word from our "Adopted Seminarian"
My name is Marek Cembor. I was born in Olsztyn. For four years I studied at the
seminary in Warsaw, where I met a priest from Chicago who encouraged me to come
to the United States. It was not an easy decision, especially since I do not have any
family here. The first year I in the Bishop Abramowicz Seminary learning the
English language. Today, I continue to study theology at the seminary in Mundelein.
We would like to thank all the parishioners of St. Helen for your prayerful support of
my journey to the priesthood.

Pan Jezus powiedzial 0 sobie; "Jajestem swiatlosci~ swiata" (J 8, 12). W dzisiejszej Ewangelii Chrystus
wypowiada zas slowa, jakie zobowiqzujqce dla ka:idego z nas: "Wy jesteScie swiatlem swiata" (Mt 5,
14). Bog nas powolal do nieustannego dawania Mu swiadectwa. To przez nas Chrystus chce bye
widoczny w swiecie i rozswietlae ciemnosci tego swiata. Kaidy. kto si~ do Chrystusa przyznaje, kto Go
przyjmuje i jest Jego uczeniem, jest rowniet rozpoznawany przez ludzi, jako swiadek i swiatlo Jezusa w
swiecie. Chrystus wyrainie stwierdza w dzisiejszej Ewangelii: "Wy jestescie sol~ ziemi" (Mt 5, 13)

Aby nasze swiadectwo wiary bylo iywe, mocne, czyste, przekonywujqce i wskazujqce innym drog~ do
Boga, to musimy stale bye zjednoczeni z Panem Jezusem przez codziennq modlitw?, sluchanie Jego
Slowa i wypelnianie go, uczestniczenie we Mszy SWi~/ej i przyjmowanie Go z czystym sercem
