Introduction
The first, primitive ski jump in Lvov after the political stability was built with effort of
ILKS activists "Black" Lvov to needs associated with conducting ski jumps for the
championship of the city which were held on19 January 1922... jumps on the specially built
ski jump were also well organised, however fundamenta defect there was a lack of time for
previous trying out the ski jump... After Chamionship of Lvov in ski jumps a ski jump located
in the Park of Kiliński in Lvov, as a result of intervention of activists and jumpers at the turn
of January and February 1922 it was reconstructed. After its reconstruction were being
organised another ski jump events. In the plan of SN ILKS "Black" activity for season 1924 /
1925 was aimed at starting a ski jump in the "Zimna Woda" and building the second sk i jump

After all in Lvov in 1924 was made a timber structure of a ski jump on the Abolition.
About existing of a ski jump in Lvov LKS "Pursuit"activists recall in the report on the
activities of the ski section in the season 1924 ....good snow conditions and the built ski jump
enabled systematic training in …Lvov. Then amongst activists of the Carpathian Company of
Skiers rose the idea of - at first seeking the convenient area up to construction of the ski jump,
but next carrying out a project and its realization. Skier well known in Lvov this time Wacław
Czerwiński quickly established the place for the future ski jump which was on Kajzerwald's
slopes 2.
The slope lay along the solar exposure on the north side of the slope. It had two natural
slopes, separated with long enough plain what much facilitated the completion of the planned
wooden construction of the ski jump. The ski jump was made enough quickly, in such a way
that in 1926 only jumps were conducted as a part of championships in ski jumps in Lvov.
After the competition all participants in jumps stated: … the ski jump is heavy and crummy,
apart from that jumps were short essentially alone defects, sot it was possible with a clear
conscience to wave the hand and to sell wood from the pier to kindlings … 3.
Construction of the second ski jump on the hillside Abolitions lwowiac'ians proceeded
in autumn1926. A KTN vice-chairman Capt. R. Loteczko was supervisor of its building .
Also a well-known Lvov sports activist was involved in a supervision of construction of the
Lvov ski jump -Eng. Ludwik Christelbauer. The ski jump was located by the mound of the
Lublin Union, that is in the city centre. The ski jump was planned for achieving jumps over 40
m4 .

From about 30 projects he chose the best conditions for rules on the slope. Before the
winter weather the Lvov ski jump was ready. It had 8 m tower, from which started the
warming-up with 76 m along the gangway about inclination 30.5 ° being based on stilts. The
warming-up ended with the threshold at 7.20 flat level The landing took place on the jumping
down 60 m long and inclination 35.5 °. The jumping down consisted of connected sections
with lowering under different executioners what facilitated the landing.
The paddock was on an opposite slope what facilitated braking. the "dead point" was
placed on 11 m what enabled jumps for lengths even 50m. Under the threshold were located
cloakrooms and a canteen. Near the ski jump there were made a little bit later: podium for
judges and for spectators. Performance of the ski jump guaranteed the fluid landing, amongst
ski jumpers an opinion that the ski jump in Zakopane on the Rafter is the biggest , and in
Lvov on the Abolition most beautiful. In jumps a major achievement was giving in Lvov in
1926 to a ski jump with the timber structure of the run-up and the tower judicial put on the left
of ski jump as on the photograph below5.
In one of the last numbers of the weekly published in 1926 "Sports Inspection" No. 49
besides information concerning activity in Lvov of 5 ski sections (AZS, KTN, SNKS "Black",
SN "Lechia" and SNKS "Pursuit") they reported about parameters of a ski jump, for which the
building was completed in December 1926 The article informed: … before a few days a new
KTN ski jump was finished, not far from Lvov. The ski jump has a run-up of 80 m, by
inclination 30 ° and jump of 50 m, by inclination 40 °. In that case jumps of over 40m will be
possible It is the second ski jump in Poland

Official opening of the ski jump in Lvov was on Saturday 16 January 1927 The
opening preceded attempts of jumps conducted on 13 January on Thursday, of 14 January on
Friday and of 15 January on Saturday with the participation of leading Polish and foreign ski
jumpers. During Thursday and Friday attempts,Józef Lankosz jumped farthest on the Lvov ski
jump , he achieved from the full run-up of the distance about 40 m. On Saturday numerous
inhabitants of Lvov gathered beneath the ski jump and watched shows of a ski jumper
Franciszek Wende from "Hauptverband Deutscher Wintersportverein" (HDW) (affiliating
sports-in the German minority in Czechosłowacja). Former record holder of the Zakopane
Jaworzynka ski jump (36 m) from the small warming-up reached twice the distance of 42m.
Achieved results promised for distant jumps while opening the ski jump. Unfortunately the
thaw broached the snow and expecting spectators in the amount of over 4 thousand watched
rivalry and a little bit shorter jumps. After drawing the order Bronisław Czech which reached
29 m made the first jump Farthest jumped F. Wende HDW Czechosłowacja who reached in
next jumps the distance of 36 m , 38 m and in the third jump 36 m6.
In 1931 from the initiative of the Lvov Circuit Ski Connection they started building a
new ski jump in Lvov. A Municipal Committee of the physical education and the basic
training shared in for its co-financing. In construction participated 40 soldiers from mates of
sappers of 40 regiment. The new ski jump was located on the hill of the Wassail on the area
of a mortgage bank. The structure enabled to return jumps from a distance of 40 m. In the
same year was built a coast on Kisielka 7.
Construction of the ski jump in Brzuchowice (in 1935 the town was placed 8 km from
border of Lvov) took place thanks to the initiative of the Polish Tatra Company operating in
Lvov with the director Guzicki at the head, with the support of the State Office of the physical
education and the basic training which was the owner of the area and the Polish Ski
Connection and the Municipal savings bank. The ski jump in terms of the size was third ski
jump in Poland after ski jumps in Zakopane and in Worochta. The building costs of the ski
jump amounted PLN 6000 , which payed local owners consisted in the Realities Company in
Brzuchowice.
According to recommendations of the FIS a former Lvov ski jumper Andrzej
Teyssere designed the ski jump, Eng. Hartgen conducted construction of the ski jump, and
Eng. Przytocki managed earthworks. Construction of the ski jump lasted two months. The
object was a property of the Polish Tatra Company8.
Builder could show off carrying out the structure which had the following dimensions:
 tower of the ski jump with height- 14.75 m,
 the pier had a length - 60 m,
 the doorsill stuck up to the height - 2.7 m,- przewidywana długość skoków 40 – 55 m,
 height of the judicial tower - 6 m

the weekly "Stadjon". One of the main initiators of construction of the ski jump in Sławsk
