Stewardship Note: “After all the people had been baptized
and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was
opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form
like a dove.” Our stewardship journey begins in the waters of
baptism. It is through the waters of baptism that we are given a
new life and become disciples of Jesus. As Jesus’ disciples, we
are called to build the kingdom of God with the gifts God has
given to us.

CALLED TO SERVE
For many weeks now, we have been celebrating the appearance of the divine presence in human form. As a child, he came to Mary and Joseph, was seen by the shepherds, and then by
some wandering magi from the East. Today we
celebrate another showing, later in time, to a
group gathered at the Jordan River.
John hesitated to baptize Jesus, whom he recognized as “one
mightier than I.” But he did as Jesus asked, and the “Holy
Spirit descended” and heaven’s voice spoke to Jesus, “You are
my beloved Son.” Jesus was beginning his public life of teaching and service. Soon he would start calling others to join him.
Peter was one of the first to be called by Jesus. In today’s
second reading, he announces the heart of the message, “peace
through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.” Peter was called, and
we are called to spread that message and to serve God’s word.
This weekend’s second collection is for the Catholic University of America.
Next week’s second collection 1/20/13 is designated for

NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK
The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Awareness Week, January 13-19. This annual event earmarks a time for parishes to consider their role in promoting the
role of priests, deacons and religious order brothers and sisters
to Catholics deciding on their future. This is especially important in this Year of Faith and as the Church continues to focus
on the New Evangelization. Vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life are essential in the Church’s mission of spreading the joy and love of Jesus Christ. Our world
and culture needs the Good News of Christ more than ever.

and kindly support and promote vocation in our parish.

ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL EXPANSION
To provide the opportunity for alumni of St. Joseph School to
participate in the Gym/Cafeteria/Parish Hall project a letter was
mailed to about a thousand graduates who previously indicated
their support for this long-over–due undertaking. The alumni
were presented two options of support-sponsoring a Memorial
listed in our Naming Opportunities Brochure or by purchasing a
12” x 12” or a 12” x 24” granite “Walk of Fame Square.”
Copies of the brochure are available at the rectory.
At the present time architectural designs are being sent to various contractors for bidding to select a general contractor. As we
previously mentioned, we hope to begin construction in early
Spring so the gym will be ready for the opening of the Fall of
2013 SJS basketball season.
ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK
On January 27, 2013 across this country we will observe
Catholic School Week. This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools
Raise the Standards”.
Thousands of parents, students and teachers will concentrate
during this week on the achievements of a Catholic education
and celebrate the success of preparing young men and women to
face the challenges of this world and live a successful and fulfilling life. Here at St. Joseph School, Catholic School Week will
open with Bishop McManus celebrating Mass on Sunday at
9:30am. The children’s choir will provide musical selections.
Following Mass there will be a brief program and reception for
parents and guests in the school cafeteria. At 11:30am we will
hold Open House, Tours, Scavenger Hunt and Book Fair.

open house will be held from 5:00-7:00pm.

PARTNERS IN EDUCATION AWARD
The recipient of the 2013 Partner’s in Education Award is Mr.
Richard A. Nowak. His support of education at St. Joseph
School over the years has been outstanding. His personal interest and concern for our school students was sustained by thousands of dollars in scholarships and other school related needs.
Mr. Nowak is a proud graduate of our school, whose values
were crystallized with a lasting influence by the Felician Sisters,
heritage of the parish and sound doctrinal teachings. He really
lives the spirit of St. Joseph School as a person of integrity, vision, generosity, values and faith in God.
This prestigious award will be presented to Mr. Nowak by
Bishop McManus during the 9:30am Mass on Sunday, January
27th.
FREE CHOICE OF EDUCATION
We live in a society where a free choice plays a crucial role in
our daily life. What to buy? Where to shop? Where to go on
vacation, etc.? In each case we must make a selection.
Strangely enough, parents do not have a choice when it comes
to the education of their children. The parents of today in the
age of scientific revolution want a choice what school their
children attend—they want to have an influence on what is
taught in that school—what values that school promotes. The
parents want the school to be safe, free of violence because fear
has a negative and depressing influence on the learning ability
of children. The child should be worried only about an upcoming test and not about his physical safety, toxic culture or shallow values.
Each family should receive a voucher which could pay for the
school of their preference, even if they want the best education
in a Catholic school. After all, all parents pay taxes and should
be equally treated. This has been done in many countries, including our neighbor, Canada. Society expects people to be
fully educated and properly developed both psychologically and
spiritually with sound balance of mind and heart capable of
serving God and others. These are the family values which St.
Joseph School aggressively promotes.
In fact, at the present time we are concentrating on a safe environment, which is dictated to us by the signs of time. At St.
Joseph’s we make every effort so that the heart is formed and
the mind is challenged. This would prepare a student to lead a
fulfilled and successful life and be an asset to our society .
Wouldn’t it be nice if parents could have such a choice to send
their children to a Catholic school, perhaps then our culture
would be more family oriented.

school Diocesan Obligations. Once again Dr. John has chosen

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
NIEDZIELA CHRZTU PAŃSKIEGO

„Nie ze względu na sprawiedliwe uczynki, jakie spełniliśmy, lecz z miłosierdzia swego zbawił nas przez obmycie odradzające i
odnawiające w Duchu Świętym.” (Tyt. 3, 5)
WEZWANI DO SŁUŻBY
Już od kilku tygodni świętujemy objawienie
się Boskości w ludzkiej naturze. Bóg, narodzony
jako dziecko w rodzinie Maryi i Józefa, był
podziwiany i odwiedzany najpierw przez
pasterzy, a potem przez Mędrców ze wschodu.
Dziś przeżywamy kolejne spotkanie Jezusa.
Tym razem z uczniami i słuchaczami Jana w
czasie chrztu w Jordanie. Jan wacha się z ochrzczeniem Jezusa,
którego uznaje jako „mocniejszego od siebie”. Kiedy jednak
spełnia prośbę Jezusa, z nieba zstępuje Duch Święty i da się
słyszeć mówiący: „To jest mój Syn umiłowany”. Od tej chwili
zaczyna się publiczne nauczanie i misja Jezusa.
Jednym z pierwszych, powołanych przez Jezusa uczniów,
jest Piotr. To on właśnie w dzisiejszym drugim czytaniu
ogłasza pokój przez Jezusa Chrystusa, który jest Panem
wszystkich. Tak jak Piotr, tak i każdy z nas jest powołany do
głoszenia tej samej nowiny i do służenia Bożemu Słowu.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na The Catholic
Univercity of America.
Druga kolekta w następną niedzielę jest przeznaczona na
pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
TYDZIEŃ POWOŁANIOWY
W tym tygodniu w całych Stanach Zjednoczonych
obchodzimy Tydzień Powołaniowy. To coroczne wydarzenie
jest czasem, kiedy parafie powinny zastanowić się nad swoją
rolą w promowaniu wartości kapłaństwa, diakonii oraz życia
konsekrowanego. Jest to szczególnie istotne teraz, kiedy
przeżywamy Rok Wiary, a Kościół skupia się nad zadaniem
Nowej Ewangelizacji. Odkrywanie i rozwijanie powołań
stanowi esencję misji Kościoła w rozprzestrzenianiu nowiny o
miłości Jezusa Chrystusa. Zwłaszcza obecnie, kiedy świat
bardziej niż kiedykolwiek potrzebuje Dobrej Nowiny o
Zbawieniu.
Prosimy o zapoznanie się z informacjami z znajdującymi się
przy wejściach do kościoła i w miarę swoich możliwości
zaangażowanie się we wspieranie i promowanie powołań w
naszej parafii.
NAGRODA „PARTNER’S IN EDUCATION”
Tegorocznym laureatem nagrody „Partner’s in Education”
został pan Richard A. Nowak. Jego wsparcie dla Szkoły św.
Józefa poprzez lata było ogromne. Jego osobiste
zaangażowanie i troska o naszych uczniów wyrażą się w
tysiącach dolarów przeznaczanych na stypendia.
Nagrodę panu Nowakowi wręczy biskup McManus w
niedzielę 27 stycznia na Mszy św. o godz. 9:30.

JASEŁKA.
W dzisiejszą niedzielę, zaraz po Mszy św., uczniowie
naszej Sobotniej Szkoły przedstawią polskie Jasełka.
Każdego roku Jasełka były wystawiane tylko dla rodziców
w szkolnej kafeterii, ale w tym roku chcielibyśmy, żeby i
inne dzieci, które nie należą do polskiej szkoły miały okazję
zobaczyć historię narodzenia Jezusa w j. polskim.
Przedstawienie jest darmowe, ale z góry dziękujemy za
dowolne ofiary na naszą szkołę, które będzie można złożyć
wychodząc z Kościoła. Bóg zapłać i Szczęśliwego Nowego
Roku!
ROZBUDOWA SZKOŁY
Aby dać absolwentom Szkoły św. Józefa możliwość
uczestniczenia w procesie rozbudowy naszej szkoły,
wysłaliśmy około tysiąca listów to tych, którzy już
wcześniej
wspierali
ten
długotrwały
projekt.
Zaproponowaliśmy im dwie możliwości: zakup pamiątkowej
płyty z imieniem ofiarodawcy o wymiarach 12x12 cali lub
12x14 cali lub tez wpis do pamiątkowej księgi.
Obecnie plany budowy zostały rozesłane do różnych
wykonawców w celu zebrania najlepszych ofert. Potem
zostanie wyłoniony główny wykonawca. Chcielibyśmy
rozpocząć prace budowlane wczesna wiosną, tak by nowa
sala gimnastyczna była gotowa na jesienny sezon sportowy
w 2013 roku.
RELIGIA
Zajęcia katechetyczne w poniedziałki, jak zwykle o godz.
17:30.
Bierzmowanie. Najbliższe spotkanie 13 stycznia o godz.
8:30. Kolejne zostaje przeniesione na trzecią niedzielę, 20
stycznia z powodu wizyty biskupa i obchodów Tygodnia
Szkól Katolickich.
TYDZIEŃ SZKÓŁ KATOLICKICH
W niedzielę 27 stycznia rozpoczynamy tegoroczny
Tydzień Szkół Katolickich. Tegorocznym obchodom
przyświeca hasło: „Catholic Schools Raise the
Standards”.
Tysiące rodziców, uczniów i nauczycieli będzie się
skupiało na osiągnieciach szkół katolickich, a także
będzie świętować sukcesy w przygotowaniu młodych
ludzi do stawiania czoła wyzwaniom współczesnego
świata oraz do dobrego i spełnionego życia.
W naszej parafii Tydzień Szkół Katolickich rozpocznie
się, celebrowaną przez biskupa Roberta McManus, Mszą
św. o godz. 9:30. Liturię tej Eucharystii uświetnią śpiewy
dzieci ze szkolnego chóru. Po liturgii obchody przeniosą
się do szkoły, gdzie na uczestników czekają różne
atrakcje.

WYCHOWANIE CHRZEŚCIJAŃSKIE
„Wychowuj chłopca odpowiednio do drogi, którą ma iść, a nie zejdzie z niej nawet w starości.“ (Przyp. 22,6)
Wszelką mądrość chrześcijańskiego wychowania można streścić w dwóch krótkich zdaniach:
1.”Ufaj Bogu jeśli chodzi o twoje dzieci” i
2.”Wychowuj twoje dzieci dla Boga”.
To pierwsze bez drugiego jest bezbożnością, a drugie bez pierwszego jest zakonem. Zastosowanie obydwóch zasad jest
zdrowe, jest praktycznym chrześcijaństwem.
Przywilejem wszystkich chrześcijańskich rodziców jest to, że z wszelką ufnością mogą polegać na Bogu w sprawie
swoich dzieci. Jednak w Bożych drogach rządzenia z człowiekiem istnieje nierozłączne powiązanie tego przywileju z
poważną odpowiedzialnością wychowania dzieci. Rodzice po prostu bardzo się mylą, jeśli mówią o ufności do Boga w
sprawie zbawienia swoich dzieci i ich przyszłej moralnej czystości w otaczającej nas społeczności, a równocześnie
zaniedbują ich wychowanie.
Nakłaniamy wszystkich chrześcijańskich rodziców, by poważenie się nad tym zastanowili, szczególnie ci, którzy
dopiero co stali się rodzicami. Istnieje wielkie niebezpieczeństwo, aby wycofać się z odpowiedzialności wobec naszych
dzieci, zrzucić ją na innych bądź zupełnie jej zaniedbać. Gdy tak postępujemy, wtedy nie podobają nam się z tym
powiązane – ale konieczne – trudy. Nie mamy ochoty na ciągłe zmartwienia. Jednak stwierdzimy, iż zmartwienia,
trudności, smutek i bóle serca wywołane z zaniedbania naszych zadań są po tysiąckroć gorsze niż to, co przychodzi na
nas przez spełnienie naszych obowiązków.
Dla wszystkich miłujących Boga, radością jest kroczenie po drodze naszej odpowiedzialności. Z każdym krokiem
dokonanym na tej drodze możemy liczyć na nieskończone źródła, jakie posiadamy w Bogu, gdy trzymamy się Jego
przykazań. Musimy po prostu codziennie i w każdej godzinie przychodzić do niezgłębionego skarbca naszego Ojca. Tam
otrzymamy wszystko, co potrzebujemy na drodze łaski, mądrości i moralnej siły. A to uzdolni nas, byśmy spełnili te
święte zadania naszej odpowiedzialności, którą posiadamy jako chrześcijańscy rodzice.
