THE The school builds on the experience of the Maisternia Pisni Arts Centre – the image of the personal development of the consciousness, a new model of education, which is based on the laws of tradition and on traditional techniques and realized through cultural artistic projects. The work of the School is based on the principles of the theatre of Jerzy Grotowski, Klim and Sergey Kovalevich. Our work here centres around traditional song. The song itself teaches, changes lives, heals. It is at once a manifestation of being and an artistic reality. Strictly speaking, this territory of indivisibility reclaims for us the laws of culture as laws of being, heals the foundation of music and theatre, teaches how do to discover the unique message carried by every human voice. My creative task is to create the conditions for the voice to open itself. [Natalia Polovynka] Our aim The School aims to reveal the objective sound of time and human beings “here and now” as a voice of Tradition by working with Ukrainian traditional songs, sacred songs and traditional forms from different cultures. Material It is proposal of school – in first turn to me myself, school in traditional meaning. It is not a master class, nor is it meant to transfer skills. The focus is on being in time, unharriedly, close to the master, and enabling everyone to initiate his/her personal process. Theatre becomes a “protected space" in which song is possible. The School involves: - personal research through working with traditional forms - work sessions with tradition bearers - a bringing together of people from different cultural traditions - meeting yourself as a tradition bearer Formula Ten- or seven-day work sessions at the Grotowski Institute held twice a year: Seven or four days of group work led by Maisternia Pisni and 3 days of work with masters who are authentic traditional singers and musicians. At the end, there will be an open meeting of all session participants. A work group consists of: 10-15 participants, 3 leaders, masters. The first session of the school will take place on April, 14-20, 2011, and will focus on the songs of Drevo, a group of singers from the village of Kryachkivka in Poltavshchyna, Ukraine. This will be a long-awaited meeting with our teachers, masters of the polyphonic tradition, world famous singers Galyna Jakymivna Popko, Nadia Mykytivna Rozdabara and Nina Petrivna Reva.
