GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE
Tempus Fugit, the Lenten season is upon us,
and I think is one of the most beautiful and
touching times of the Church year. During this
time, we are meant to unite ourselves to the
suffering of Christ on the cross. Jesus offered his
life for us on the cross. The Resurrection of
Christ is the foundation of our faith. During this
season it is essential that all brothers knights be
fully involved in the liturgical celebration
Beginning with Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good
Friday and into the Easter Vigil and the Mass of the Resurrection.
Brothers, council election are approaching. Nominations begin at the
General Meeting in April, please volunteers for several positions. Any
member running for office must be in good standing and must have
completed the Third Degree.

Święta Bożego Narodzenia mamy już za soba, jednak pozwolę sobie
podziękować tym , którzy wzieli udział i za ich pomoc w tradycyjnym
Opƚatku. Dziękujȩ bratu Zygmuntowi Dymek i jego Żonie za
przyrzadzenie kolacji i wszystkich innych smakoszy. Dziękujȩ również
wszystkim za dary pieniężne w wysokosci $605.00 poświęcone na
wysyłkę do dwóch Śierocińców w Polsce. Okres Wielkiego Postu się
zbliża, jak co roku nasza rada chce z organizować dla braci i ich
rodzin (dorośli tylko), tzw. Czas wyciszenia się, reflekcji, w domu
Sióstr Felicjanek – bliższe dane w krótce. Idąc w ślady innych rad
chcemy zapoczątkować działalność grupy mołodzieży do 18go roku
życia pod nazwą Columbus Squires. Jest to zgromadzenie młodych
chłopców działające na podobnych zasadach jak Rycerze Kolumba.
Po ukoǹczeniu 18go roku życia ci chłopcy są gotowi zasilić szeregi
Rycerzy Kolumba. Brat Marek Ruta zobowiązał się tego kroku, za co
jemu dziękuję i obiecuję współpracę.

Pastor's reflection for the 1st Sunday of Lent
We have begun the season of Lent. We began
Lent by marking our foreheads with ashes as
well as taking up various Lenten resolutions. The
ashes remind us that all created things come
from dust and to dust they shall return. Lent is a
time of penance, fasting, self-sacrifice, and
prayer. These practices help us on the path of
conversion; they help us prepare our hearts to
fruitfully experience the joy of the Resurrection of
our Lord. The precepts of the Church oblige us
to refrain from partying during the season of
Lent. All the faithful are also obliged to go to
confession and to receive Holy Communion
during the Easter Season. Last Sunday I
encouraged everyone to give something up for
Lent; to make some external effort for our Lord
Jesus. It's not too late. What can we give up
during Lent: maybe smoking, alcohol, wasting
time on the internet, or maybe you'll resolve to be
better, be more loving towards your wife,
husband, or in-laws. Maybe we'll give up sweets,
or watching TV...Choose at least one thing that
will remind you that you are experiencing this
special season. Do this for Christ crucified!
REFLEKSJA O. PROBOSZCZA NA PIERWSZĄ
NIEDZIELĘ WIELKIEGO POSTU
Rozpoczęliśmy święty i zbawienny czas
Wielkiego Postu. Zewnętrznym znakiem
naszego wejścia na drogę pokuty i nawrócenia
było posypanie głowy popiołem oraz podjęcie

różnych form umartwienia. Popiół przypomina
nam, że wszystko, co ziemskie, powstało z
prochu ziemi i znów w proch się obróci. Wielki
Post to czas postu, pokuty, wyrzeczeń, modlitwy
i ma służyć naszemu nawróceniu, ma
przygotować nasze serca na owocne przeżycie
radosnych świąt Zmartwychwstania Pańskiego.
Przykazanie kościelne zobowiązuje nas w
okresie wielkopostnej pokuty do powstrzymania
się od udziału w zabawach oraz do przystąpienia
do spowiedzi i Komunii św. wielkanocnej. W
minioną niedzielę zach ęcałem wszystkich do
wewnętrznego zobowiązania się do wyrzeczenia
na rzecz Chrystusa. Jeszcze nie jest za późno. Z
czego zrezygnujesz na okres Wielkiego Postu:
może z palenia papierosów, alkoholu, z
marnowania czasu na internecie, a może postan
owisz być lepszym, życzliwszym dla żony,
męża czy też teściów. A może zrezygnujesz ze
słodyczy, plotkowania, nadużywania TV...
Wybierz choć jedną rzecz, abyś wiedział, że
przeżywasz Wielki Post. Uczyń to dla
Chrystusa ukrzyżowanego.

now time to start selling them. .Changes
were made this year again Tickets will be
sold in books of $5.00 each. We need all of
you Brother Knights to get involved and sell
tickets .It is a very good way to help out the
Arthritis Society and a number of other
Charities we support during the year. Any
Brother Knights who would like to get books
and may not be at any of our Meetings
please contact me and I will insure that you
get some for selling I can deliver them to
you .This year as well I would like to get
some help selling these Tickets, anyone

Lent
For many Christians around the world, Lent
is a season during which observers go
through a time of fasting, self-denial, prayer

and increased devotion to God. The purpose
of Lent is for people to imitate the period of
time that Jesus Christ spent alone in the
Judean desert fasting while resisting the
temptations of the devil. Because this
period lasted for 40 days and nights, Lent
also lasts for this same amount of time. The
question of when it specifically begins and
ends, however, is a bit trickier to answer.
According to Scott P. Richert, an expert in
the topic of Catholicism, it really depends on
a few different things. And, if your concern
is about when fasting ends, you may find his
answer to be surprising.
As far as when Lent begins, he says, it
makes a difference which sect of Christianity
you belong to. In the Latin Rite of the
Catholic Church, as well as those Protestant
churches which observe Lent, it begins on
Ash Wednesday, which occurred on March 5
in 2014. However, for Eastern Churches —
both Catholic and Orthodox — it begins on
Clean Monday, which was on March 3 this
year. Clean Mondays originated as a way to
get a head start on the Lenten season by
gradually easing into the days of dietary
restriction that were to come.
As for when it ends, Richert says this
depends what you mean by “ends.” For
many, he says, the real question on their
mind is when does the fasting portion of
Lent end. The fast ends on Holy Saturday
(the day before Easter). Although Holy
Saturday is 46 days after Ash Wednesday, it
is actually the 40th day of the fast. While
the math might seem to be off at first,
Richert assures us that it is correct. The
discrepancy arises from the fact that with
Sunday being the day of Christ’s
resurrection, all Sundays have come to be
viewed as days of rest and worship.
Therefore, they are not included in the days
of fasting and penance. So, to bring the
total number of fasting days up to 40, Lent
was expanded to include six weeks

containing six days per week of fasting plus
four extra days — Ash Wednesday and the
following Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
However, Richert notes, the liturgical
ending of Lent is on Holy Thursday (April 17,
2014). Specifically, according to the
General Norms for the Liturgical Year and
the Calendar, it ends just before the Mass of
the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday
evening. Holy Thursday is followed by the
Easter Triduum, which is composed of Good
Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
So, while Lent liturgically ends on Holy
Thursday, the fasting and penance
associated with the season continue through
to Holy Saturday.

Richert says that some mistakenly think that
Lent actually ends on Palm Sunday (the
Sunday before Easter) because they believe
that Holy Week is separate from Lent. In
actuality, it is simply the last week at the
end of Lent.

he is currently serving in that office.

the miniature jewel of these offices, in
accordance with the guidelines in the
Protocol Handbook.
