THE KING OF CONTROVERSY
I
“There was an inscription over His head: ‘THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.’
n 1926, between the
two world wars, Pope
Pius XI instituted this
feast of Christ the King.
In so doing, the Church
was making a statement
that its members were to
give their absolute allegiance to no government
or person but only to
Christ, the King of kings.
Thus, we can see why this
feast and Jesus’ claim to
be the King of kings may
be controversial.
For example, when the
wise men asked Herod:
“Where is the newborn
king of the Jews?” (Mt
2:2), “King Herod became greatly disturbed”
(Mt 2:3). Before long, the
village of Bethlehem was
traumatized by Herod’s
murders (Mt 2:16). The
mere mention of Jesus’
kingship resulted in all
hell breaking loose.
On the morning of Jesus’ crucifixion, Pontius
Pilate broached the subject of Jesus’ kingship.
He asked Jesus: “Are You
the King of the Jews?”
(Jn 18:33) Jesus claimed
to be the King of a kingdom not belonging to this
world (Jn 18:36). Jesus
knew that Pilate knew He
was the King (Jn 18:37),
but Pilate refused to admit it and even questioned
whether there was objective truth at all (Jn 18:38).
While Jesus was hanging on the cross, the
controversy about His
kingship continued. “The
soldiers also made fun of
Him,” and said, “If You
are the king of the Jews,
save Yourself” (Lk 23:36,
37). The other criminal
repented (Lk 23:40ff) and

Jezus Syn Dawida
„Namaścili więc Dawida na króla”. Dawid już
raz został namaszczony
jako chłopiec przez proroka Samuela. Prorok,
pominąwszy siedmiu jego
braci, wybrał ostatniego,
najmłodszego i dopiero co przyprowadzonego z pastwiska. Wtedy
Pan wypowiedział do
Samuela znaczące słowa:
„Nie zważaj ani na jego
wygląd, ani na wysoki
wzrost(…) nie tak bowiem człowiek widzi jak
widzi Bóg, bo człowiek
patrzy na to, co widoczne
dla oczu, Pan natomiast patrzy na serce”. (Sm
16,7). A teraz słyszymy
o Ludzie Izraela, który,
uznając Dawida za swego
pasterza, namaszcza go
na króla. Ma to miejsce
w Hebronie, gdzie Dawid
równocześnie zawiera przymierze z Panem. Jest
to antycypacja namaszczenia, wybrania na króla,
Jezusa z Nazaretu, syna
Dawida. „Wszystko przez
Niego i dla Niego zostało
stworzone”. Chrystus stoi
w centrum naszego życia,
naszej codzienności. On
który jest początkiem i
końcem, Alfą i Omegą.
Wszystko czynimy ze
względu na Niego i dla
Niego. Każdego dnia rano
zapraszamy Go, aby w
ciągu dnia był w naszym
życiu obecny, abyśmy
mogli
tej
obecności
doświadczyć. Dziękujemy
Mu, prosimy Go, aby o
nas pamiętał, przepraszamy Go, jeśli zrobiliśmy
coś
złego.
Możemy
się z Nim spotkać, w
sposób
dla
naszych
zmysłów najbardziej oczywisty na Eucharystii.
On, który jest Panem
całego wszechświata, jest
zarazem Panem mojego
życia. Chrystus stojący
pośrodku mojego życia
zaprasza mnie do siebie, to znaczy chce mnie
sobą ubogacić. Pragnie,
aby Jego pojednanie ze
światem, z człowiekiem,
stało się również moim
udziałem.
„Zechciał
bowiem Bóg, by w Nim
zamieszkała cała Pełnia
i aby przez Niego i dla
Niego znów pojednać
wszystko ze sobą: i to
co na ziemi, i to co w
niebiosach, wprowadziwszy pokój przez Krew
Jego Krzyża”. To pojednanie jest każdemu z nas
bardzo potrzebne. Tylko
Chrystus może nam je
w pełni ofiarować. „To
jest król żydowski”. Taki
napis umieszczono na
krzyżu w trzech językach
– po grecku, hebrajsku, i
łacinie. Urągano mu jak
czytamy w Ewangelii.
Był to bez wątpienia najtragiczniejszy dzień w
dziejach świata. Ten, który
świat stworzył, na krzyżu
w Osobie Jezusa Chrystusa umiera. Zabity przez
tych, których stworzył.
Wielość Boga, który stał
się człowiekiem, ukazana została przez krzyż
i mękę i zmartwychwstanie. I taka też jest droga
życiowa każdego z nas. W
nasze życie również jest
wpisany krzyż i zmartwychwstanie. Ale potrzeba, abyśmy umieli swoje
codzienne doświadczenie
łączyć z Jego życiem i
zmartwychwstaniem.
Chrystus jest królem,
właśnie w doświadczeniu
krzyża Jego królowanie najbardziej się objawia. Przyjąć krzyż – to
propozycja Ewangelii. Od
tego jak go sami przyjmujemy, zależy to, w jaki
sposób będziemy uczestniczyli w Jego królestwie.
Psalmista powiada: „Do
niego wstępują pokolenia Pańskie, aby zgodnie
z prawem Izraela wielbić
imię Pana. Tam ustanowiono trony sędziowskie,
trony domu Dawida”.
Obyśmy mogli kiedyś na
tych tronach zasiadać.
