Panie Jezu, Ty wiesz, jak ciężką pracą jest nauka,
wiesz, jak trudno jest rano wstać i iść do szkoły bez
względu na pogodę.
I jeszcze trzeba tam cicho siedzieć, i uważać,
i słuchać co mówią nauczyciele.
Często też są testy. A jak trzeba pilnować wyobraźni,
by nie bujała w obłokach -Ty też to wiesz.
A w domu, Panie Jezu, nie jest łatwo zrezygnować
z telewizji, komputera.
Ale nie chcę, żeby rzeczy mną rządziły.
Daj mi siłę, by oprzeć się pokusom i móc spokojnie
odrabiać lekcje.
Ciężko jest chodzić do szkoły, ale dzięki Ci,
Panie Jezu, za to, ze mogę rozwijać umiejętności,
które są Twymi darami. Dzięki Ci za moich nauczycieli,
za moich kolegów, tych dobrych i tych, którzy są dla
mnie mniej mili. Dzięki Ci za znój odrabiania lekcji
- miło jest później dostać dobre stopnie.

„Zło z wnętrza pochodzi”

Komu wydaje się, że jest zdrowy, nigdy nie rozpocznie leczenia, a
niewidzialna choroba będzie czynić postępy. Więc może lepiej
spojrzeć prawdzie w oczy? Jeśli się tego lękamy, pamiętajmy, że
Chrystus przyszedł właśnie dla takich, jak my. Bo zdrowi lekarza nie
potrzebują.

Problem zła i grzechu dotyka jakoś każdego człowieka.
Wbrew pozorom, sumienie jest dosyć trudno przekupne i człowiek
nie potrafi długo żyć w
poczuciu winy. Próbuje się więc jakoś z tym poczuciem uporać,
próbuje się oczyszczać, usprawiedliwiać i wybielać. Byle tylko
zaznać wewnętrznego pokoju, a przynajmniej jego namiastki w
postaci stworzenia pozorów porządności.
Metody są różne. Jedni wmawiają sobie, że wszystko wolno
i że nic nie jest grzechem, że takie pojęcie w ogóle nie istnieje, więc
nie ma się czym przejmować. Wymaga to jednak rezygnacji z pojęcia
absolutnej prawdy i dobra, a więc i wszelkiej religii, etyki, prawa i
zasad. Na tym polega etyczny liberalizm – produkt najgorliwiej
importowany z Zachodu.
Inni próbują szukać dla siebie rozmaitych okoliczności
łagodzących i usprawiedliwień: a to, że wszyscy tak robią, że nie było
innego wyjścia, albo że nie wyrządza się nikomu krzywdy. Jest to
dość krótkowzroczne, bo prawda moralna szybko wychodzi na jaw i
daje znać o sobie w postaci niepokoju sumienia, który trzeba
zagłuszać nowymi wykrętami. Ale przynajmniej człowiek taki próbuje
jakoś ratować swój obraz Boga, niestety, wypaczony. Ma jednak dla
siebie otwartą drogę nawrócenia i powrotu, gdyż żywe jest w nim
poczucie zła, grzechu i winy – nie wie tylko, co z tym zrobić.
Jeszcze inni próbują naginać prawo moralne do własnych
potrzeb. Nie rezygnując więc z moralności i przykazań, lecz
podmieniają je na takie, które im pasują i pozwalają wydawać się we
własnych oczach bezgrzesznymi i doskonałymi. W ten sposób
utwierdzają się w samozadowoleniu, zakłamaniu i zamykają sobie
coraz szczelniej drogę nawrócenia. Bo z czegóż tu się nawracać,
skoro się skrupulatnie wypełnia ustanowione na własny użytek
zasady? Dokładnie na tym polega obłuda.
Tej obłudzie Chrystus wypowiedział bezpardonową walkę,
gdyż ona najskuteczniej odgradza człowieka od Boga murem
pozorów i fałszywych wyobrażeń. Chrystus rozbija je słowem prawdy
o dobru i złu, ukazując prawdziwą ich naturę.
Zło moralne rodzi się w człowieku. Nie jest niczym
zewnętrznym i niezależnym od naszej woli i wyboru. To człowiek jest
odpowiedzialny za zło, które czyni, za swój grzech. Grzech jest
dziełem człowieka, pochodzi z ludzkiego serca, ludzkiej natury,
zranionej przez grzech pierworodny. Wobec tego faktu jesteśmy
całkowicie bezsilni. Chrystus chce, abyśmy to uznali, byśmy
przyznali się do swej grzeszności i powierzyli ją Jemu, Jego
przebaczeniu i miłosierdziu.
Niestety, tego właśnie nie chcemy. Wolimy raczej wmawiać
sobie, że zło jest czymś zewnętrznym w stosunku do nas, a więc że
nie jesteśmy za nie odpowiedzialni ani winni. A póki człowiek nie
uzna swej winy, póki się do niej nie przyzna i ze skruchą nie
powierzy jej Bogu, nie uzyska przebaczenia i wewnętrznego pokoju.
Tylko Bóg może nas oczyścić i tylko wtedy, gdy człowiek na to
pozwoli. I dlatego właśnie powinniśmy poznać i przyjąć prawdę o
grzechu, o swoim grzechu: aby móc z zaufaniem powierzyć go Bogu.
Może teraz lepiej zrozumiemy dlaczego grzesznicy, celnicy
i nierządnice byli bliżsi Chrystusowi niż pobożni faryzeusze, może
zrozumiemy, dlaczego pasterz idzie za jedną zgubioną owieczką, a
syn marnotrawny tak szybko wraca do łask. Lekarza potrzebują
bowiem ci, którzy się źle mają.
GOSPEL REFLECTIONS
23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
At 195 years old, the New York School for
the Deaf is the second oldest school for the deaf in
the United States. Begun through the efforts of a
Baptist pastor, Rev. John Stanford, the school was
officially chartered in 1817. As a prominent
minister, Stanford served churches in Rhode
Island, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, before
coming to New York. An 1835 memoir about his
life describes how he devoted considerable time
"to promote the comfort and moral improvement
of the poor, without regard to denominational
distinctions." When Stanford came to New York he
preached the Gospel in the Alms House, which is
where he first had the idea of developing a place
of formal education for the deaf. Stanford
recruited others to the cause, and the school in
New York was begun.
In the Gospel this weekend, Jesus heals
the deaf man who had a speech impediment.
Jesus said to the man, "Ephphatha!" which
translated means, "Be opened!" And even though
Jesus told the crowd that witnessed the event to
tell no one, they proclaimed the miracle
everywhere. There was no stopping their
astonishment.
People were impressed with Stanford's
accomplishment in getting a school for the deaf
chartered. Other states followed the example,
starting their own institutions. What is often
forgotten is that Stanford's work was rooted in the
Gospel. The same devotion to the word of Christ is
seen in the work of people like St. Elizabeth Ann
Seton, who began the first Catholic school in the
United States, and soon-to-be-saint Marianne
Cope, who founded hospitals in New York that she
insisted admit everyone regardless of religious
belief or color. She went on to work with lepers,
assisting St. Damian de Veuster on Molokai. The
Gospel can push us to do amazing things.
Stanford, Seton, and Cope were all motivated to
help others improve their lives because of the
Gospel message.
It is the same Gospel we hear each Sunday.

The pilgrimage which is being sponsored by the
Archdiocese of Newark has been rescheduled to depart
from Newark~ Liberty International Airport on Thursday,
October 18th and return on Wednesday, October 24th.
Highlights of the program will include the canonizations
in Saint Peter’s Square by Pope Benedict XVI on October
21st, of Blesseds Kateri Tekakwitha, Marianne Cope,
Pedro Calungson and four others. This once in a lifetime
journey will provide sightseeing in Rome, Cascia, Assisi
and Florence. A brochure with a detailed itinerary as

Archdiocese of Newark
sponsors two support groups for Parents Grieving the
Death of a Child. Groups meet year ‘round on the first
Wednesday of each month at St. Thomas the Apostle
Parish Center, 60 Byrd Avenue, Bloomfield, and on the
third Monday of each month at St. Peter the Apostle
Parish Center, 445 Fifth Avenue, River Edge. There is no

Women's and Men's Commissions Events
Set for 2013
The Archdiocesan Men's Commission will host its
annual Men's Conference on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at
Seton Hall University.
The Archdiocesan Women's Commission will
host its annual Women's Day of Reflection on Saturday,
March 9, 2013 at Seton Hall University.

An Annulment Information Evening is scheduled for
Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at St. Anthony of
Padua Church, 63 Franklin Street, Belleville, NJ, at 7:30
P.M. A member of the staff of the Tribunal of the
Archdiocese of Newark will provide basic information
about annulments; the requirements for annulments and
how to begin the process of petitioning for an

SPOTLIGHT COURSES
Word of Life
September 2012
The SPOTLIGHT program, sponsored by the
Catechetical Office of the Archdiocese of Newark, offers
introductory courses in Catholic teachings and scripture
for adults. If you haven’t had a recent
opportunity to update your knowledge of our faith,
consider taking a SPOTLIGHT course. Several
courses focus on the main teachings of the Church as
found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
There are also courses on the Old Testament
and the New Testament. Each course is completed in a
single one day session on a Saturday, 9:30 AM - 3:30
PM. SPOTLIGHT is open to the general public.
However, catechists, teachers and leaders in parish
religious education programs, Catholic elementary
schools, RCIA and adult faith formation can earn doctrinal
certification through these courses.
Most of us assume that we have basic rights that come
with special dignity of being human. These rights are
inherent to human nature. They’re part of who we are.
Nobody can take them away. But if there is no Creator,
and nothing fundamental and unchangeable about human
nature, and if “nature’s God” is kicked out of the public
conversation, then our rights become the product of social
convention. But social conventions can change. That
means the definition of who is and who isn’t “human”
can change. American public life needs a framework that
is friendly to religious belief because society can’t
support its moral claims about freedom and rights with
rational and secular arguments alone. In fact, to the
degree that our society encourages a culture of unbelief, it
undermines its own grounding. It causes its own decline
by destroying the moral coherence of a public square in
which all are respected and treated as equals. ~ Most

Fathers of Children with Special Needs Coming Together
Often fathers of children with special needs feel isolated from
the experiences of other fathers. This can weigh heavy on dads
when combined with the additional expenses, medical and
school issues and stresses on a family that are often associated
with having a child with special needs. Therefore, a group of
fathers of children with special needs have come together to
form a group so that they can learn from and strengthen each
other to be better fathers (and have some fun too!). If you are

sexual misconduct to inform us immediately so that we may take
appropriate action to protect others and provide support to victims of
sexual abuse.
