Z nich, przy pomocy narzędzi GIS, pozyskano informacje o następujących kategoriach użytkowania terenu: 1 – lasy, 2 – łąki i pastwiska, 3 – grunty orne, 4 – zadrzewienia, 5 – tereny zabudowane, 6 – powierzchnie wodne. © Senckenberg Museum of Natural History Görlitz · 2014 ISSN 1618-1735 PECKIANA9.indb 1 01.08.2014 14:30:56 82 Dorota Wojnarowicz et al. Abstract Land use changes in the Karkonosze region in the period 1888–2008 (Abstract of the talk) Presented topic was carried out by the Karkonosze National Park in the framework of the international project ‘Transnational Ecological Networks in Central Europe’. Basing on cartographic materials collected from Polish and German archives, it was possible to make assessment of land use and land cover changes in the Karkonosze foothills area for the past 120 years. The studies were done on topographic maps, aerial photos and ortophotomaps from five time periods, starting from 1888. From these maps the information about: 1 – woodlands, 2 – grasslands, 3 – arable lands, 4 – tree-covered, 5 – urban and 6 – water areas was obtained using GIS tools. To develop the map and determine the trajectories of land use changes the method called ‘stability mapping’ was used. It based on calculation of three indices: turnover, diversity and similarity that altogether gave the combinations of six classes of land use change trajectories: stable, quasi stable, stepped, cyclical, dynamic and non-constant trend. The results indicate that approximately 75 % of the analyzed area are areas where the type of land use has not changed over the years. This raises the question whether these areas (forests, meadows) are particularly valuable in terms of nature, whether they are migratory corridors for species and whether they should be protected from the pressure of converting them into e.g. urban areas..
