Natalie Haynes
from London
the Author of the Bestselling Novel of 2014 The Amber Fury
The Amber Road, or Keeping Up with Electra & Co.
Natalie Haynes (b. 1974) is a writer, broadcaster, stand-up comedian, and promoter of urban
chicken keeping. She is engaged in popularizing the ancient heritage: among others, she presented
documentaries about the revival of Latin teaching and about using comedy in the classroom. She
appears on BBC Radio 4 and writes for The
Independent. She has judged the Man Booker Prize.
She was a guest contributor for The Times. She wrote
the fortnightly TV Detectives blog for The Guardian,
and has written for The Observer, Sunday Times,
Sunday Telegraph, and others. Although Natalie has
retired from her decade-long stand-up carrier, she
occasionally returns for benefit gigs. Her book for
young readers, The Great Escape (2007), won a
PETA Proggy Award for best animal-friendly
children’s book, in 2008. Her first non-fiction
book, The Ancient Guide to Modern Life (2010), was serialised by The
Times and translated into Greek, Spanish, and Portuguese. Natalie’s first novel, The Amber Fury,
published in 2014, met with an enthousiastic reception among classicists and a wide public.
