OUTREACH PROGRAM
Lent has begun and we have been informed that many
in the parish have decided to take the money saved on
meatless Fridays and purchase food for the Outreach.
We think that is a great idea. We are in need of
spaghetti and jars of tomato sauce which will make a
Friday night dinner for some of our clients. Others will
do well with cans of soup, stew, tuna fish and any
canned vegetables and either canned fruit or the very
convenient individual servings of applesauce, pudding,
jello, etc.We are asking for those items but will happily
accept whatever you choose to give.
Just a reminder....this Tuesday night instructors from
Home Depot will be at the Auditorium on Dante Street
to show how easy it is to put down a new floor in either
your home or someone else’s home or store. The class
starts at 6:00 pm and will continue until 7:30 pm.
There will be interpreters available should you need
something explained in your native tongue....assuming
that your native tongue is either Polish or Spanish.
Another plus is that if anyone is interested in applying
for a position with Home Depot, there will be
applications available and personnel willing to help
you fill them out. See you there.

LENT
Lent is a season of penance and preparation for
the great feast of Easter, the Resurrection of the
Lord. We will find our peparations for Easter
more fruitful if we take the time to prepare our
hearts for the season of Lent as well. More than
simply picking things to give up, we should take
some time in prayer to ask the Lord where we
need to grow in virtue. Ask, the Holy Spirit to
show you what He desires for you this Lent, particularly in relation to the three traditional forms
of penance prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Our
Lenten practices should lead us into a deeper
encounter with Christ and to a great freedom to
serve Him.

Today’s Missal may do so. The yearly subscription price is
$12.00, and may be ordered at the Rectory during Office
Hours.

Z niezależnej inicjatywy grupy Polaków z Long Island na terenie naszej parafii stanie pomnik
papieża św. Jana Pawła II. Zebrano już ponad 15
tys. dolarów. Szacowane całkowite koszty rzeźby,
transportu i instalacji to około 30 tys. dolarów.
Osoby, które chciałyby włączyć się w to dzieło,
mogą składać ofiary do 15 marca 2015 r. na
parafię z dopiskiem „Pomnik Jana Pawła II” lub
„Statue of John Paul II”. Czeki należy wypisywać
na: “Our Lady of the Assumption Church” lub “OLA
Church”.
Uroczystość błogosławieństwa i otwarcia pomnika
jest wstępnie zaplanowana na 24 maja tego roku.

“The kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent and believe in the Gospel”
Many of us heard these words spoken this
week as ashes were place on our foreheads.
Many of us also felt like Noah as the snow fell for
what seemed like “forty days and forty nights”.
In the opening prayer for today’s Mass we
hear: “Grant, Almighty God . . . that we may grow
in our understanding of the riches hidden in
Christ.” That is a great goal for us during these
weeks of Lent. Yes, we must pursue this goal by
“worthy conduct”, but the understanding and the
increase come from God.
In the second reading, St. Paul focuses us
on Christ and his suffering for our sins . . . “that
he may lead you to God”, and reminds us of our
Baptism, through which we are saved through
the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
How many Lents have we begun in
earnest, but soon lost our enthusiasm. This year
let us pray (and sing)
