Die Tänzerin Gerda Schilling, die Schwester von Kirchners Lebensgefährtin
Erna, als Halbfigurenporträt in modischer Kleidung der Weltstadt Berlin um
1914. Um das genauer ausgeführte Gesicht mit hervorgehobener Mundpartie
gruppieren sich flächig in heftigem Blau-Grüngelb-Klang, von Rot und
Violett akzentuiert und von Schwarz konturiert Haar, Hut, Pelzkragen, Jacke
und ein bewegter Hintergrund, aus dem nach links ein Tanzpaar entschwindet,
ein flüchtiger und bei Kirchner so üblicher Hinweis auf die Tätigkeit der
Dargestellten.

Dancer Gerda Schilling, Erna’s, Kirchner’s partner’s sister, conceived as a
half-length portrait in fashionable clothes, the way they were worn in the
cosmopolitan city Berlin around 1914. Her hair, hat, fur collar, jacket and
the agitated background, which shows a dancing couple leaving towards the
left – fleeting hint of the depicted persons’ profession Kirchner was wont
to use – are areas of fierce blue and greenish yellow, accentuated by red
and violet and with a black contour line, grouped around her distinctly
executed face that shows an emphasis on the part of her mouth.
