call for paper - International Rough Set Society
1st CALL FOR PAPERS International Symposium on Fuzzy and Rough Sets (ISFUROS ’06) http://isfuros06.uclv.edu.cu Santa Clara, Cuba December 5 - 8, 2006 Hosted by: Universidad Central de Las Villas, Cuba Sponsored by: International Fuzzy Set Association (IFSA) Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR), Belgium Otto-von-Guericke Universitat Magdeburg, Germany Purpose and Scope The International Symposium on Fuzzy and Rough Sets (ISFUROS 2006) will take place at Santa Clara, Cuba, hosted by the Universidad Central de Las Villas, from December 5 - 8, 2006. ISFUROS 2006 aims at providing a forum for exchange about Fuzzy and Rough sets theories and their applications. The symposium includes tutorial, invited key lectures and paper presentations. The goals of ISFUROS 2006 are to strengthen the relationship among the researchers on fuzzy and rough sets, to spread these theories in the Latin American research community, and to facilitate contact between new researchers and consolidated groups. Submission Topics Submissions of original and previously unpublished work in Fuzzy and Rough set theories and applications are encouraged, but not limited to the following areas: • Fuzzy Sets and Fuzzy systems Theoretic Foundations Parallel algorithms for Fuzzy systems Fuzzy techniques in Pattern Recognition Fuzzy techniques to improve Artificial Neural Nets (neurofuzzy systems) Methodologies for developing fuzzy systems Knowledge Engineering for fuzzy systems Uncertainty and Fuzzy Systems • Rough sets Theoretic Foundations Parallel algorithms for Rough set theory Rough techniques in Pattern Recognition Rough techniques to improve Artificial Neural Nets Uncertainty and Rough sets • Fuzzy-Rough models Theoretic Foundations Novel Algorithms Fuzzy-Rough hybrid techniques in Pattern recognition Fuzzy-Rough hybrid techniques to improve Artificial Neural Nets Methodologies for developing fuzzy-rough hybrid models • Fuzzy and Rough sets in Machine learning Novel Algorithms using fuzzy or rough sets Inductive learning Methods using fuzzy or rough sets Lazy-learning and instance-based learning methods based on fuzzy or rough sets Integration of fuzzy or rough sets in Case-based reasoning Knowledge extraction from texts (Text Mining) using fuzzy or rough sets Intelligent data analysis using fuzzy or rough sets • Fuzzy and Rough sets in Decision making Novel Algorithms for decision making using fuzzy or rough sets Applications in Biomedical Domains and Business Methodologies for developing Decision Support Systems using fuzzy or rough sets • Fuzzy and Rough sets in Bioinformatics Algorithms for Mining gene data bases and biological data bases using fuzzy or rough sets Solving Classification and Clustering problems using fuzzy or rough Sets Proceedings A summary of every paper (not exceeding two pages) will be published in printed form at the time of conference. All extended abstracts (9 pages) will be published in a CD-ROM with its corresponding ISBN, also at the time of conference. As a post-event publication, a set of extended versions of selected papers will be published either in Special Issues of the scientific journals “LNCS Transactions in Rough Sets” or “MathWare and Soft Computing” or in a book of the series “Studies in Fuzziness and Soft Computing”, from Springer. A second standard reviewing process will pick up the chosen papers from the accepted ones. At least one of the authors should complete the conference registration by the deadline of Early Registration; otherwise, the paper will not be included in the program or in any conference publications. Important Dates March 1st, 2006 June 30, 2006 July 31, 2006 August 21, 2006 Paper Submission Start Paper Submission Deadline Acceptance notification Camera-ready copy due Submission procedure, format and review procedure Since March 1st, 2006 our website will be ready to upload papers, given the corresponding credentials to their authors first. Papers must be submitted in electronic form as either PDF (preferred) or PostScript. Springer format is required for the final camera ready copy, with a maximum of 9 pages. Papers will be reviewed by at least two reviewers from the Program Committee. Submissions must be identified as either research or application papers and will be reviewed using appropriate criteria to their category. Review criteria for research papers will include scientific significance, originality, technical quality, and clarity. Review criteria for application papers will include practical or economic significance, potential for leading to more powerful technology, technical quality, and clarity. Registration fee Registration fee is 300 EUR, including coffee breaks, lunches, a cocktail reception and a conference banquet. M. Sc. / Ph. D. students will pay a fee of 200 EUR. Official Language The Symposium’s official language is English. Traveling information Our university travel agency offers: • • A tourist package that includes transportation in Cuba, housing and meals. Excursions to Trinidad city –a UNESCO World Heritage city with the best preserved colonial architecture in the American continent, 80 km from Santa Clara, near to Ancon beach–, and to Santa Maria northern keys of Villa Clara, 75 km far from Santa Clara, a tropical paradise that deserves to be enjoyed to the fullest. Registration fee does not cover the cost of these visits.
