Stanisława Gołąba uwaŜa się za jednego z twórców, dziś juŜ klasycznej teorii obiektów
geometrycznych i głównego twórcę szkoły geometrii róŜniczkowej w Krakowie. Teoria
obiektów geometrycznych była w okresie międzywojennym nowoczesną teorią matematyczną
i siłą napędową rozwoju całej geometrii róŜniczkowej, w szczególności znalazła bardzo
waŜne zastosowanie w fizyce teoretycznej. Dorobek naukowy Stanisława Gołąba jest
imponujący i obejmuje ponad 250 publikacji, w tym 14 skryptów oraz dwie monografie.
Stanisław Gołąb był nie tylko wielkim uczonym, ale równieŜ doskonałym nauczycielem
i wychowawcą licznej kadry naukowej. Potrafił skupić wokół siebie młodych zdolnych ludzi
i zainteresować ich dziedziną nie tak popularną jak inne rozwijane w Polsce działy
matematyki. Cieszył się ogromnym autorytetem i sympatią swoich studentów.
Na wykładzie przedstawiona zostanie sylwetka Stanisława Gołąba, jego dorobek naukowy
oraz wpływ na rozwój geometrii róŜniczkowej w Polsce.

Stanisław Gołąb is regarded as one of authors of the theory of geometrical objects and chief
author of the school of the differential geometry in Krakow. The theory of geometrical objects
was a modern mathematical theory and the driving force of the development of the entire
differential geometry in the interwar period; in particular it found the very important
application in the theoretical physics. Scientific achievements of Stanislaw Gołąb are
impressive and include over 250 publications, including 14 course books and two
monographs.
Stanisław Gołąb was not only a great scholar, but also an excellent teacher and a class tutor of
the populous research personnel. He was able to gather young gifted people around oneself
and to make them interested in field not this way as popular as other fields of mathematics
developed in Poland. He enjoyed the huge authority and the sympathy of his students.
At the lecture, the profile of Stanisław Gołąb, his scientific achievements and his influence on
the development of the differential geometry in Poland will be presented.
