Purpose of job: The Solution Architect is responsiblefor planning, implementing and managing all
Infrastructure design components and development activities across the British Council Enterprise.
Context and environment:
Department – Global Information Services.
Functional Team – Design and Development, Infrastructure Development.
The role will reside in the Global Infrastructure Development Unit (IDU), who are represented across
UK, India and Poland.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:





Assist and contribute in designing, specifying and selecting information system solutions,
considering functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure and performance.
Estimate cost for IS solutions, considering infrastructure platform, licenses, development and
service support.
Assist Project Managers, Business Analysts and Business Partners to develop high level
project schedules and resource plans for implementation.Participate in or oversee a variety
of analytical and technical assignments.
Working across the full project lifecycle, from requirement definition through to
implementation.
Adherence to Service Delivery Lifcycle and Service Delivery ITIL processes.

Main Duties

Selects appropriate design standards, methods and tools, consistent with agreed enterprise
and solution architectures and ensures they are applied effectively. Reviews others' systems
designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and
integration of multiple systems and technology

Participate in key process improvements for all IT infrastructure environments throughout the
organisation.

Ensure that IT Infrastructure systems comply with established policies, minimum standards,
licensing agreements, and configuration guidelines.

Recommend and execute modifications to IT Infrastructure systems in order to improve
efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure system security.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems, including enterprise application servers,
storage, messaging systems and some network related issues.

conference calls to accommodate regional time zones.
