Course objective The course is intended to get students acquainted with rules, ways and effects of functioning of the internal market of the European Union (single European market). Teaching will focus on four freedoms of the internal market (freedom of the movement of goods, persons, capital and services): their legal basis and practical operation. Importance of the Lisbon Strategy for the functioning of the internal market. International competitiveness of the economies of EU Member States. B. Course syllabus European Market as a stage of European economic integration. Reasons and ways of the internal market implementation and the legal basis. Economic benefits. Decision making in the EU and its impact on the effectiveness of the internal market. Free movement of goods, capital, persons and services. Harmonization of taxes. Rules on competition. Ways of reducing economic and social disparities on the internal market. C. Educational outcome Knowledge Skills Student knows the rules, legal basis, mechanism and economic results of functioning of the EU internal market. In particular, a student knows and understands ways in which four economic freedoms of the Single European Market operate, as well as their consequences for EU Member States and for external partners. 1. Student is able to analyze and critically assess the functioning of four freedoms of the EU internal market. 2. Student is able to identify main principles and legal rules underlying the operation of companies on the Single European Market. 3. The above mentioned skills make a student prepared to start his/her own business or to apply for a job in companies engaged in economic operations on the EU internal market. 4. Student also is able to undertake a job in national and EU institutions involved in coordination and monitoring of integration process in the EU. Social competencies 1. Student acquires skills in team work (preparing presentations in teams). 2.
