END-Of-LIFE - DECISION MAKING
Kathleen Gallagher will speak on Catholic considerations
regarding such topics as living wills, health care proxies,
DNR directives, life-sustaining treatments, etc. This presentation will take place on Wed., October 5th, at 7:30PM at
Our Lady of Angels Church, 7320 4th Ave., Brooklyn.
SERVE THE ONE AND ONLY GOD
The scriptures for this Sunday remind us that we are
accountable to serve the one and only God. The first letter
to Timothy states, “[T]here is one God. There is also one
mediator . . . Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). The Gospel
parable about a master and a steward connects our belief
in one God to our lives by pointing out that “[n]o servant
can serve two masters” (Luke 16:13a).
Serving the one God as our master requires that we
assist in God’s work. The work of God is to “[lift] up the
poor . . . to seat them with princes” (Psalm 113:7-8).
Unlike the greedy characters in the first reading from
Amos, who are obsessed with serving their earthly selfinterest, we are to use the wealth of this world to care for
the poor, in service of the one and only God.
SAINT PIO OF PIETRELCINA (1887-1968)
September 23
First Reading - The Lord never forgets the sins of those
who take advantage of the poor (Amos 8:4-7).
Psalm - Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor (Psalm 113)
Second Reading - Pray to the Lord, who wants everyone
to be saved (1 Timothy 2:1-8).
Gospel - Be trustworthy in all things. Serve God, the only
master, not mammon (Luke 16:1-13 [10-13]).
Did the World War II American flyer really see Padre
Pio in midair, preventing the bombing of his village below?
Did Pio actually “bilocate” in Italy, the Holy Land, even
America, as countless witnesses testified? Or “read hearts”
before penitents spoke? What of the stigmata, Christ’s
wounds imprinted on Padre Pio’s hands, feet, and side?
John Paul II, who as a young man visited Pio, never
mentioned these extraordinary elements at the
canonization. Instead, the pope spoke of “trials accepted
with love,” referring perhaps to sanctions restricting Pio’s
faculties for hearing confessions and celebrating public
Mass, imposed because of criticism, later discredited, sent
to the Vatican; of Pio’s offering his sufferings in union
with Jesus’ passion for a suffering world; of his continual
availability to sinners seeking direction and absolution; of
Padre Pio’s prayer that blossomed in charity, especially
through his “House for the Relief of Suffering,” a
healthcare facility that anticipated by decades today’s
holistic partnering of medical science and spirituality.
Finally, how comforting for us “ordinary” Christians, this
extraordinary saint’s most frequent advice: “Pray, hope,
and don’t worry!”

Jesień – Rozpoczęcie jesieni w 2016 roku nastąpi
22 września, o godz. 10:21 rano czasu nowojorskiego.
Jesień jest jedna z czterech podstawowych pór roku w
przyrodzie w strefie klimatu umiarkowanego.
Charakteryzuje się umiarkowanymi temperaturami
powietrza z malejącą średnią dobową oraz najwyższym
w skali roku opadem atmosferycznym. Rośliny
wieloletnie gromadzą substancje zapasowe w
korzeniach, a jednoroczne usychają, starając się
przedtem różnymi metodami doprowadzić do
rozproszenia nasion. Jesień astronomiczna rozpoczyna
się w momencie równonocy jesiennej i trwa do
momentu przesilenia zimowego, co w przybliżeniu
oznacza na półkuli północnej okres pomiędzy 22
września a 22 grudnia (czasami daty te wypadają dzień
wcześniej lub dzień później, a w roku przestępnym
mogą być dodatkowo cofnięte o jeden dzień). Za jesień
klimatyczną przyjmuje się okres roku (następujący po
lecie), w którym średnie dobowe temperatury
powietrza wahają się pomiędzy 15 a 5 °C. Dla półkuli
południowej wszystkie opisane daty i zjawiska są
przesunięte o pół roku. Za miesiące jesienne na półkuli
północnej uznaje się wrzesień, październik i listopad, a
na południowej marzec, kwiecień i maj.
25 NIEDZIELA OKRESU ZWYKŁEGO
Jezus powiedział do swoich uczniów: Pewien bogaty
człowiek miał rządcę, którego oskarżono przed nim, że
trwoni jego majątek. Przywołał go do siebie i rzekł mu:
Cóż to słyszę o tobie? Zdaj sprawę z twego zarządu, bo
już nie będziesz mógł być rządcą. Na to rządca rzekł sam
do siebie: Co ja pocznę, skoro mój pan pozbawia mię
zarządu? Kopać nie mogę, żebrać się wstydzę. Wiem, co
uczynię, żeby mię ludzie przyjęli do swoich domów, gdy
będę usunięty z zarządu. Przywołał więc do siebie
każdego z dłużników swego pana i zapytał pierwszego: Ile
jesteś winien mojemu panu? Ten odpowiedział: Sto
beczek oliwy. On mu rzekł: Weź swoje zobowiązanie,
siadaj prędko i napisz: pięćdziesiąt. Następnie pytał
drugiego: A ty ile jesteś winien? Ten odrzekł: Sto korcy
pszenicy. Mówi mu: Weź swoje zobowiązanie i napisz:
osiemdziesiąt. Pan pochwalił nieuczciwego rządcę, że
roztropnie postąpił. Bo synowie tego świata roztropniejsi
są w stosunkach z ludźmi podobnymi sobie niż synowie
światłości. Ja też wam powiadam: Pozyskujcie sobie
przyjaciół niegodziwą mamoną, aby gdy /wszystko/ się
skończy, przyjęto was do wiecznych przybytków. Kto w
drobnej rzeczy jest wierny, ten i w wielkiej będzie wierny;
a kto w drobnej rzeczy jest nieuczciwy, ten i w wielkiej
nieuczciwy będzie. Jeśli więc w zarządzie niegodziwą
mamoną nie okazaliście się wierni, prawdziwe dobro kto
wam powierzy? Jeśli w zarządzie cudzym dobrem nie
okazaliście się wierni, kto wam da wasze? żaden sługa nie
może dwom panom służyć. Gdyż albo jednego będzie
nienawidził, a drugiego miłował; albo z tamtym będzie
trzymał, a tym wzgardzi. Nie możecie służyć Bogu i
mamonie.. Łk 16, 1-13
REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Zdumiewa nas w dzisiejszej Ewangelii postawa
bogatego gospodarza, który chwali nieuczciwego rządcę.
Przez tę przypowieść Pan Jezus zachęca nas, abyśmy
swoje złe rachunki – grzechy – wyrównywali hojnością
w szafowaniu dobrem, które otrzymaliśmy od Pana,
ponieważ „miłość zakrywa wiele grzechów” (1 P 4,8).
Jest to bowiem rzecz dobra i miła w oczach naszego
Zbawiciela, Boga, który pragnie, „by wszyscy ludzie
zostali zbawieni”. Otrzymując tak wiele na Eucharystii,
tak wiele możemy dać innym. Czyńmy to na pamiątkę

Este domingo, estamos teniendo nuestro picnic anual
de la parroquia. Comenzará a las 10:30am y concluirá a
las 6:00pm. Llevaremos a cabo la rifa de los premios a las
5:30pm. Tenga en cuenta que usted no necesita estar
presente en el sorteo para ganar.
Las lecturas de este domingo nos recuerdan que somos
responsables de servir al único Dios. La primera carta a
Timoteo declara: “…porque no hay sino un solo Dios y
un solo mediador… Cristo Jesús” (1 Timoteo 2:5). La
parábola del Evangelio sobre un hombre rico y su
administrador conecta nuestra creencia en un solo Dios
con nuestra vida señalando que “no hay criado que pueda
servir a dos amos” (Lucas 16:13a).
Servir al único Dios como a nuestro amo requiere que
trabajemos en la obra de Dios. La obra de Dios es
“[levantar] del polvo al desvalido, alzar de la basura al
pobre, para sentarlo con los príncipes” (Salmo 113:7-8).
A diferencia de los avariciosos que describe Amós en la
primera lectura y que se obsesionan por servir sus propios
intereses, nosotros hemos de usar las riquezas de este
mundo para asistir a los pobres, sirviendo así a uno y
único Dios.
