Very good vocal conditions, elaborate techique and interesting vocal timbre enabled the singer to sound unique (...)” After finishing Music Secondary school named after H. Wieniawski in Lodz in a violin class, Magdalena Witczak graduated with honours from a soloist singing class led by Bożena Harasimowicz in Gdansk Music Academy named after St. Moniuszko. She is a prizewinner in many vocal art contests. In October 2004 she got a distinction and two special prizes in I International Opera Vocalism Contest named after A. Didura in Bytom, Poland. In May 2006 she got a doctor degree in music art, in an art discipline – vocalism. She is an active and productive artist. There are either opera pieces (16 roles), oratory-­‐ cantata (43 pieces) or wide range of songs (over 100 pieces) in her repertoire. She sang with such orchestra directors as J. Maksymiuk, J. Salwarowski, J. Katlewicz, B. Jarmołowicz, W. Rajski, M.J. Błaszczyk, T. Wicherek, K. Buman, J. Przybylski, T. Bugaj, S. Chrzanowski, M. Florencio Jr., R. Silva, Z. Rychert, A. Knap, S. Wróblewski, P. Sułkowski, M. Caldi. There were many tutors in Poland and abroad who helped her improve vocal skills, among them: Judith Beckmann (Bachakademie Stuttgart), Krystyna Szostek – Radkowa, Gerhard Kahry, Christine Hampe, Christian Elsner, Ryszard Karczykowski, Fedora Barbieri, Wojciech Drabowicz and Olga Szwajgier. As a student she began to take part in concerts singing in Stabat Mater by J. Haydn (Czestochowa Philharmonic Orchestra – 1996). Now she still cooperates with various orchestras and philharmonic orchestras around Poland ( In Slupsk, Koszalin, Szczecin, Zielona Góra, Zabrze, Rzeszów, Gdansk, Lodz, Bytom, Bydgoszcz, Torun, Plock, Sopot, Lomza) singing wide repertoire – from Baroque to contemporary pieces. In September, 1999 she made her debut as Rosina in The Barber of Seville by G. Rossini, the premiere of which celebrated 50 anniversary of The Baltic Opera House in Gdansk. On the same stage she performed many times the part of Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro by W.A. Mozart, Norina in Don Pasquale by G. Donizetti, Hanna in Hounted Manor by S. Moniuszko, Fasquity in Carmen by G. Bizet, Countess Stasi in Csardas Princess by E. Kalman, Lucia in The Rape of Lucertia by B. Britten. In July, 2000 she took part in La Serva Pardona by G. B. Pergolesi in the Puppet Opera in Gdansk. In the years 2000-­‐2004 she cooperated with the Opera Theatre and the Light Opera Theatre in Szczecin where in 2002 she took part by the side of Fiorenza Cossotto in Masked Ball by G. Verdi. Since 2000 she has been cooperating with Capella Gedanensis – the Early Music Band. Within the most important concerts are: The German – Polish – Lithuanian Days of Baroque Music with Musica Antiqua Koln Band – Vilnius 2000 and the world premiere of cantatas by J. T. Roemhildt in Gdansk in 2000. In 2005 these cantatas were released on CDs. In 2008 as a soloist she recorded, together with the band, a motet In Furore by A. Vivaldi. Popieluszko' in Bydgoszcz, 'XII Early Music Festival in Stary Sacz', 'Musicales d'ETE in Rioclar, France, ' Music Days Drozdowo – Lomza', 'III Vocal Music Days' in Zielona Gora, 'VI International Festival of Music – Contrasts' in Lvov, ' Passion and Paschal Music Festival', 'Kaleidoscope of Music Forms', 'IX International SummerFestival – Torun – Music and Architecture”, 'V Festival -­‐ Sinfonia Varsovia for Its City', XIV International Festival of Vocal Music – Viva Il Canto', 'VII International Festival of Organ Music in Pelplin Cathedral', ' The Colours of Poland – IX Mobile Festival of Lodz Philharmonic', '43 Festival of Organ Music in Koszalin', 'XXVII Festival of Organ and Chamber Music in Slupsk', ' IX Festival of Organ and Chamber Music in Skierniewice', ' IX International Festival in Kolobrzeg – Music in the Cathedral', ' XIX Festival – Music in Sandomierz', ' XX International Festival of Sacred Music in Warsaw'. The soloist sings music pieces by Polish contemporary composers. In October 2001 she was invited to perform in the world premiere of 'Missa Festiva' by K. Rozbicki, which was released on CD by Acte Prealable. In 2005 she sang 'Angelus' by W. Kilar and 'Papa in Memoriam' – for the soprano, piano and electonic sampler by Gdansk composer G. Grubba. In 2007 she, with Polish Philharmonic'Sinfonia Baltica' in Slupsk, took part in 'Miners' Mass' by A. Marko. In 2009 she sang Cantata ' And the Night will Surround You Like the Light' by M. Czerniewicz, and the world premiere of the piece for a soprano and carillon 'The Muza's Song with the Sound of trumpets and Bells' by G. Kuprevicius which was performed for 450 anniversary of the carillon in the Townhall in Gdansk. In 2012 she sang three sacred pieces by Andrzej Nikodemowicz on I International Festival in Lublin ' Time and Sound'. She gives concerts in Poland and abroad. There are many radio, TV and CD recordings in her output. In October 2010 the Danish Radio recorded and broadcast her recital with music by Chopin and Bellini. In March 2013 Magdalena Witczak sang, with a great success, the part of the Mother Abbess in a Polish premiere of 'The Sound of Music' by R. Rodgers, O. Hammerstain II in the New Theatre named after Witkacy in Slupsk. The singer is also a teacher in a solo singing class in I and II Degree Music School in Slupsk, Poland. '(...)
