The most important monuments of Sandomierz:
*The Opatowska Gate- built in the 14 th -16 th centuries- one of the best preserved town gates in
Poland. Close by there are remains of the mediaeval city walls, including the so-called
"Needle's Eye'.
*The Underground Tourist Route- consists of underground merchant cellars from the 15 th -17 t

centuries, stretching under the town-houses situated in the Market Square, about 500m long.
The deepest level is at 12m.
*The Town Hall- built in the 14 th century, expanded on in the16th century (the attic), one of the
most beautiful Renaissance town halls in Poland.
*The Cathedral- built in the 14 th century, Gothic, has preserved its original spatial arrangement
and the rich carved decorations inside. The interiors date from the 15

th
centuries ( Byzantine-Russian frescos, rococo altars, paintings and sculptures).
*The House of Dlugosz, built in 1476 by the foundation of the famous historian- one of the
best- preserved Gothic dwelling- houses. Nowadays it houses the rich collections of the
Diocesan Museum.
*Collegium Gostomianum- built at the beginning of the 17 th century, in the late Renaissance
style, it has preserved its original architectonic shape and function of a school.

*The Castle- built in the 14 th century at the place of the former stronghold, rebuilt later, is in its
present form a manifestation of historical transformations. At present it house the Regional
Museum.
*The monastery complex of the Dominican Friars at St. Jacob Church- built in 1226, late
Romanesque, it has preserved the typical spatial arrangement of a monastery building and the
rich plastic decorations made of moulded and glazed brick.

Die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten von Sandomierz:
*Das Opatower Tor- wurde im 14.-16. Jahrhundert errichtet. ein am bestes in Polen

aufbewahrten Stadttoren. Neben den Überresten der Schutzmauer aus dem Mittelalter befindet
sich u.a. das sogenannte "Nadelöhr".
*Der Unterirdische Touristenweg- es sind unterirdische kaufmännische Keller aus dem
15.-17. Jahrhundert. Sie ziehen sich unter den Wohnhäusern auf dem Markt und haben
ca.500m. Der niedrigste Punkt liegt bei 12m.
*Das Rathaus wurde 1m 14. Jahrhundert erbaut, im 16. Jahrhundert ausgebaut (die Attika), ein
der schönsten Renaissance-Rathäuser in Polen.
*Der Dom - wurde im gotischen Still im 14. Jahrhundert errichtet. Er erhielt den ursprünglichen
Raumplan und im Innenraum bildhauerische Verzierung. Der Dom besitzt die Innenausstattung
aus dem 15.-17. Jahrhundert (byzantisch- russische Fresken, Rokokoaltäre und Skulpturen).
*Das Haus von Dlugosz- wurde vom berühmten Geschichtsforscher gestiftet und 1476
errichtet. Es ist ein der am besten aufbewahrten gotischen Wohnhäusern. Hier befindet sich die
reiche Sammlung des Diözesenmuseums.
*Collegium Gostomianum- wurde am Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts im spätgotischen Still
errichtet, es erhielt seinen originellen architektonischen Raumplan und heutzutage erfüllt seine
Aufgabe als Oberschule.
*Das Schloss- errichtet an der Stelle der ursprünglichen Festung im 14. Jahrhundert, später
umgebaut. Es ist in dieser Form eine Abbildung von Wandeln und historischen Aufsichtungen.
Jetzt befindet sich im Schloss das Regionalmuseum.
*Der Komplex des Dominikanerklosters an der Jakobskirche wurde 1226 im
spätromanischen Still errichtet. Er aufbewahrt den typischen Raumplan eines Klostergebäudes
und die reiche künstliche Verzierung aus geformten und mit Glasur bedeckten Ziegeln.
