However, we do find the apparent requirement of accepting Terms of Service of one out of four chosen third-party websites 2 (of which, worth noting, none is operated by an EUbased company) highly problematic. We cannot but note that accepting third-party private enterprise Terms of Service cannot and should not be a requirement to participation (including, as in this case, organizing events) in a pan-European, government-supported initiative. Especially if the choice of the third-parties is not fully transparent. We do recognize the need to protect against spam and to provide identification of event organizers; however, these two requirements can be met, however, with a CAPTCHA and simple account creation or e-mail-based login on the CodeWeek portal. We also recognize that for a part of event organizers being able to log-in with their social network account is a convenient functionality. As event organizers for the Polish edition of CodeWeek 2014 we sincerely hope that future editions of this valuable initiative will not feature such constraints.
