On 1 August 2014, registration for the race begins and is open to both pros and amateurs alike. Enduro is on everyone's lips in the mountain bike scene. The combination of up- and downhill biking catches the spirit of our times and is making quite a splash. Ischgl identified this trend early on and initiated the Overmountain Challenge as Euopean Enduro last year together with bike manufacturer Cannondale as well as race organisers from Trailsolutions. 240 participants from 14 countries answered the call to the Silvretta Bike Arena in 2013, to race each other on the scenic trails amidst the mountains of Tyrol. With this year's edition, the young racing format will be further developed and expanded. In the still young enduro scene, the Ischgl Overmountain Challenge is considered a test run for a not yet existing official European Championships and organisers are expecting to draw a corresponding large number of entries, as race manager Georg grogger confirms: "The enduro scene is growing in leaps and bounds. With the Overmountain Challenge, we are offering a brand new racing format here in Ischgl, which attracts the best trail mountain bikers to Tyrol and thus also promises spectacular scenes for the audience." While climbs are made in groups without timekeeping, participants engage in exciting battles on designated downhill sections, the so-called stages, competing for seconds. With this, enduro offers everything a mountain biker's heart could desire. On the one hand, the shared experience of nature while leisurely riding uphill, on the other hand, the action-packed element that is the downhill run. It's not for nothing that enduro is regarded as the future of gravity-mountainbiking, enjoying rapidly increasing popularity world-wide. Ever more top stars from the Downhill World Cup are also discovering this new cycling discipline. Line-up of stars in Ischgl But the enduro scene also has its very own stars, with the very first world champion Jérôme Clementz of 2013 leading the way. The Frenchman also won the inaugural edition of the Ischgl Overmountain Challenge last year, and has confirmed he will challenge for the title once again in 2014. But the competition this year is top-class, as his countryman Nico Lau, who has already won an enduro world championship race this year, and Italian Manuel Ducci, who took home the Superenduro PRO Series in 2013, have already registered for the Overmountain Challenge. Thus the second edition of the European Opens once again promises exciting contests on the 1,200 km network of trails in the high alpine Silvretta Bike Arena. No other region in Tyrol offers such an extensive trail network for mountain bikers, which is also easily accessible by cable car. This year, 450 competitors are qualified to enter and apart from the pros, hobby racers can also pit themselves against the stars of the enduro scene for an entry fee of Euro 50.
