Attendance in Ekstraklasa grows Nearly 1,4 million
Attendance in Ekstraklasa grows
Nearly 1,4 million supporters visited T-Mobile Ekstraklasa stadiums during 2013/14 season. So far as
many as 10 Clubs recorded better attendance, than during whole previous season.
It’s worth reminding, that current season started earlier than usual, on July 19. There were 8
gameweeks played during Summer, which didn’t affect stadium attendance. There were more than
600 thousands supporters during 64. games played between July and September. In other words,
average per game attendance was 9 376 at that time.
- Contrary to many publicly outspoken concerns, earlier start of the league didn’t affect the
attendance on our stadiums – says Marcin Stefański, Head of Competition in Ekstraklasa S.A. – We
started the games almost 4 weeks earlier than in previous years, and supporters appreciated this
step.
Taking all in the account, in this moment attendance in T-Mobile Ekstraklasa has raised by 2% in
comparison to last year. What’s interesting, 10 Clubs (including newly promoted Cracovia and
Zawisza Bydgoszcz) have better attendance record than this time last year.
- There are factors however, that hindered growth of average attendance. Most of all I think of 21
administrative decisions, making particular stands or whole stadiums unavailable for supporters to
attend. Because of international sports calendar, we were enforced to schedule 3 games for the
middle of the week. Naturally, it’s related with entering the year of FIFA World Cup. During Spring of
2014 between Monday and Friday there will be only Multiliga’s, which means all 8 games starting at
the same time – adds Marcin Stefański.
This season’s biggest crowd attended Lech Poznań’s game with current Champions, Legia Warszawa.
There were 38 458 fans in the stands. Also record-breaking figures from Kraków are worth noticing.
For the first time after modernisation Wisła Kraków hosted the full set of supporters – 32 458
(against Legia Warszawa in 11th gameweek).
