Our Mission Statement
Lord, God, all creation is yours, and you call us to serve you by caring for the gifts
that surround us. May the example of St. Isidore urge us to share our food with the hungry and to
work for the salvation of mankind. We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your son, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
Saint Isidore, Pray for Us.

Do you know………The Significance of Numbers in Scripture
(Part III: #8, #12, & #40)
#8
Scripture states that 8 people were saved in the ark of Noah (1 Pet. 3:20). Circumcision of a Jewish boy took place
on the 8th day (Gn. 17:12). In Ezekiel’s vision of the new Temple the priests make their offering on the 8th day (Ez
43:27).
#12
12 indicates a kind of totality. The most obvious example of 12 are the 12 tribes of Israel the people of God (Gn.
49:28), mentioned many times throughout the Bible. The Hebrew year was divided into 12 months, the day into 12
hours (Jn. 11:9). Israel had 12 sons (Gn. 35:22-27; 42:13, 32). Christ chose 12 apostles (Mt. 10:1.). Twelve is therefore linked with the elective purposes of God. Revelation incorporates multiple uses of 12. 144,000 people, 12,000
from each tribe of Israel, will be converted to Christianity and die as martyrs under the reign of the Antichrist. The
New Jerusalem, the city of Heaven, is described as having walls 144 cubits thick, symbolic of the 12 tribes and the
12 Apostles. The foundations of the walls are made of 12 precious stones. The city is foursquare, with walls 12,000
stadia, or furlongs, long, wide, and high. Stadia and furlongs are not the same length, but are close. The former
equates to about 1,400 miles, the latter to about 1,500 miles. There are 3 gates in each side, for 12 total. These are
made of single pearls, giving us the phrase “pearly gates.” Inside, the Tree of Life yields 12 different kinds of fruits.
Daniel is also concerned with the time of the end. Daniel 12:12 states, “Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches
the end of the 1,335 days.” 1 plus 3 plus 3 plus 5 equals 12. When Jesus feeds the 5,000, his Disciples pick up 12
basketfuls of leftovers afterward.
#40
The Bible uses 40 to denote completion or fulfillment. It is used 146 times throughout both Old and New Testaments. It is the traditional Hebrew number for the duration of a trial of any kind, when times are hard and a person’s
faith is tested. The Israelites slaved in hard bondage under the Egyptian pharaohs for 400 years (10 times 40). God
forced them to wander in the Wilderness throughout the Sinai Peninsula for 40 years as punishment for their “stiffnecked unbelief.” Moses was 120 when he died (40 years times 3). Moses was 40 days on Mount Sinai receiving
God’s Law, another 40 days on the mountain after the golden calf sin. Elijah, some 300 years later, spent 40 days on
the same mountain worshiping God. There are tons of references to “40 days and 40 nights” throughout the Bible.
The most notable are the 40 days and nights of rainfall that caused the Flood of Noah. During this time, the whole
world flooded to a depth of some 15 feet above the tallest mountains. It took 375 days for the water to recede. Jesus
fasted for 40 days in the wilderness before being tempted by Satan. Jesus remained on Earth for 40 days after his
Resurrection, appearing to the Apostles and teaching them, before ascending to Heaven.
Forty is associated with almost each new development in the histor y of God’s mighty acts, especially of salvation, e.g. the Flood, redemption from Egypt, Elijah and the prophetic era, etc.The following periods of 40 days may
be listed: the downpour of rain during the Flood (Gn. 7:17); the dispatch of the raven (Gn. 8:6); Moses’ fasts on the
mount for forty days and forty nights (Ex. 24:18; 34:28; Dt. 9:9); the spies’ exploration of the land of Canaan (Nm.
13:25); Moses’ prayer for Israel (Dt. 9:25); Goliath’s defiance (1 Sa. 17:16); Elijah’s journey of forty days and forty
nights to Horeb (1 Kgs. 19:8); Ezekiel’s lying on his right side (Ez. 4:6); Jonah’s warning to Nineveh that in 40 days
it will be destroyed (Jon. 3:4); Christ’s stay in the wilderness prior to his temptation (Mt. 4:2), and his appearances
after his resurrection (Acts 1:3).

Zakończyła się pielgrzymka papieża Franciszka do USA. Wielu z nas śledziło to wielkie wydarzenie w telewizji bądź na żywo,
uczestnicząc w spotkaniach z Następcą Piotra. Warto przypomnieć niektóre z przemówień Ojca św. Szczególnie dużo uwagi
papież poświęcił imigrantom, a także pośrednio i nam, polonijnej społeczności imograntów w Riverhead.
Oto fragment przemówienia przed Indepentent Hall w Filadelfii.
niezbywalnych prawami, a rządy istnieją, aby chronić i bronić tych praw.
społeczne i polityczne. Pamiętamy wielkie zmagania, które doprowadziły dozniesienia niewolnictwa, poszerzenia praw wyborczych, rozwoju ruchu robotniczego, i stopniowe wysiłki w celu wyeliminowania wszelkiego rodzaju rasizmu i uprzedzeń skierowanych wobec kolejnych fal nowych Amerykanów. (...)
tradycji.
Myślę zwłaszcza o tętniącej życiem wierze wielu z was, głębokim sensie życia rodzinnego i
