PARISH ANNUAL WIGILIA
Mark your calendars...St. Mary’s annual
Wigilia Dinner will be held on Sunday,
December 3, 2006 at the European Chalet, 5445 S. Harlem Avenue in Chicago,
IL. There will be an 11:00am Mass followed by dinner, entertainment and dancing. Adult tickets will sell for $30 per person and tickets for children 3
to 12 yrs. are $15 per child. Tickets will be available for
sale beginning the weekend of October 28/29 after all
Masses. Tickets will also be available at the rectory during office hours from 9am to 5pm - beginning on Monday, October 30th. Please contact Karen or Kim Tross at

TRAINING FOR NEW MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST
The Cooperativo of the Cicero-Bewryn parishes is sponsoring formation classes for persons that are interested in
serving their parishes as Eucharist Ministers. Formation
classes in English will be held at St. Odilo parish in Berwyn from 7:00 - 8:30pm on the following dates: October
24, 31. Our parish needs more parishioners to serve in
this capacity and we encourage interested persons to
participate in the formation sessions. Please contact Fr.
Radek if you are interested in this stewardship program.

The next Religious Education class is
scheduled to be held on Saturday morning, November 4, 2006 from 8am to 10am.
NOVEMBER 2ND -ALL SOULS DAY
On this special day, we will remember the souls of all the
faithful departed from our parish. If you would like your
departed family members and friends to be remembered
in a special way on All Souls Day, please use the All
Souls Day envelopes that can be found at all church entrances. List their names, enclose an offering and drop
this envelope in the collection basket next weekend. Your
deceased family members and friends will also be remembered throughout the year at daily Masses whenever
there are no other Mass intentions listed.

St. James reminds us that “every worthwhile, every genuine
benefit comes from above.” But, he reminds us, true worship
of God involves using those good gifts to benefit the less
fortunate. Good stewardship is not optional; it is a hallmark of
our faith!
We extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all - friends
and alumni (especially our Seniors) -- for attending
the Benefit Banquet for our parish school on Friday,
October 6th. The profit for this event was $4,255.86.
Congratulations to Mr. Theis and the Banquet Committee for a job well done!
A Holy Hour in honor of St. Peregine, the cancer saint, will be celebrated on Sunday, November 5th at 2pm at Our Lady of Sorrows
Basilica, 3121 W. Jackson Blvd. The service will include Scripture,
Sermon, Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, Blessing of Individuals with the relic of St. Peregrine and Benediction of the Blessed
Sacrament. The basilica is adjacent to the Eisenhower Expressway.
There is ample, secure parking at the rear of the Basilica.

Stewardship - a Disciple’s Response
How can you share some of your God-given time and
talents for God’s work? What are God’s gifts to you?
How do you know what you can share and where you
begin?
To be responsible stewards of time and talent, you
must begin with an honest inventory of yourself.
This weekend October 21/22, each parishioner will
receive a TIME AND TALENT SURVEY to be completed at home. We kindly ask that you bring your
completed survey with you next weekend and deposit
it in the collection basket.
Next weekend, (October 28th and 29th) we will begin
our Ministry Fair. Parishioners that are engaged in
various ministries and organizations will speak at all
Masses. Then each parishioner will be given a Ministry
Interest Sheet which will offer you an opportunity to
express your interest in the ministry/organization of
your choice. These Ministry Sheets are to be retuned
on Sunday, November 5th. Your cooperation in serving your parish as a Good Steward of your time and
talents will be much appreciated.
Carson Pirie Scott Coupon Books
St. Mary’s School is sponsoring the sale of “ Carson’s
Community Day” coupon booklets for $5 each. After you
purchase the $5 booklet, you will obtain coupons worth
$10 as well as 20% discount coupons for selected merchandise and descriptions of many other “bonus buys.”
This special sale will begin at 6AM until the store’s closing
on Saturday, November 11th only. Your purchase of these
booklets will benefit the financial goals set for our school. .
Members of the School Board will be selling these coupon
books at all Masses on the weekend of November 4th and
5th. These coupon books can also be purchased at the
school office daily during school hours.
HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE
St. Leonard’s School in Berwyn is hosting a High School Open
House on Wednesday, October 25th from 7pm to 8pm in the
school hall - 3322 S. Clarence Avenue. The following Catholic
High Schools will be represented:
Fenwick, St. Ignatius, St. Joseph in Westchester, Nazareth
Academy, Guerin Prep, Immaculate Conception, St. Laurence
and Trinity High School.
All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students and their parents are encouraged to take advantage of this High School Open House
evening.
Catechist Formation Classes
Mrs. Dorothy Gorss who is the Director of Religious
Education at St. Leonard Parish in Berwyn will present
the November, 2006 “Fostering Faith Series” at St.
Odilo School Library - 6617 W. 23rd Street, Berwyn.
The dates for the formation classes are as follows: Nov.
2nd, 9th and 16th. Classes will be held form 7pm to

Hebrews 4:14-16
Let us approach the throne of grace
with boldness, so that we may receive
mercy and find grace to help in time of
need.
“Can you come to my birthday party?” “I have two tickets to
the game, can you make it?” “We’re going on a boat trip
next week. Do you want to join us?” We all love to receive
invitations, and here is one that is hard to refuse: “Can you
come to the throne of grace?”
Every day, God invites us to come and receive gifts from
him. Today’s reading from Hebrews mentions specifically
the gifts of “mercy” and “help in time of need” (Hebrews
4:16), but God’s invitation includes a much wider array of
gifts as well: peace, encouragement, hope, joy, healing,
grace to forgive, guidance, and insights into God’s path for
our lives. In fact, there is no end to the gifts God wants to
give us!
In Old Testament times, it was dangerous to approach the
throne of a king. According to the Book of Esther, everyone
knew that daring to do so could lead to death - unless the
king held out the golden scepter as a sign of acceptance
(Esther 4:11). But this warning didn’t stop Esther: She took
the risk in order to intercede for her people. And the king
heard her, granted her request, and even raised her above
all other people. This is how it will be for us when we come
before the throne of our God. We are his beloved children,
and he will always welcome us.
We don’t have to be like Jacob, who tried to trick his father
for a blessing. When God sees us, he will put his arms
around us, draw us to himself, and ask us what we need.
Then, with a huge smile on his face, he will open his box of
treasures and give us exactly the right gifts.
So what are you waiting for? On this day of Sabbath blessing, don’t be afraid to approach Almighty God. He is, after
all, your Father!

I can ask you for gifts of grace to help me today.
”

Interested in Volunteering?
Volunteers are needed at Catholic Charities West Suburban Offices for the after school SMART tutoring program. High school students, college students and
adults can sign up for Mondays and/or Tuesdays to
help tutor and read with grade school students from an
area school. The program runs from 3pm to 5:30pm
every Monday and Tuesday throughout the school year
at 1400 S. Austin Blvd in Cicero. If you are interested,

con estas festividades los recuerdos

esta Misa tomen un sobre los cuales están localizados en la parte
posterior de la Iglesia. En este sobre ustedes podrán
poner los nombres de las personas que usted quieran
oficiar en la misa de muertos. En el sobre usted podrá poner su donación (mínima de $10.00 por intención) y estos sobres se pondrán en un libro el cual se
quedara en el altar por todo el mes Noviembre. Los
sobres con los nombres y la ofrenda pueden poner
junto a la canasta de la colecta dominical. Si tiene

y San Judas Tadeo
San Judas Tadeo es uno de los
santos más populares, a causa
de los numerosos favores celestiales que consigue a sus
devotos que le rezan con fe.
Judas es una palabra hebrea que significa: "alabanzas sean
dadas a Dios". Tadeo quiere decir: "valiente para proclamar su fe". Simón significa: "Dios ha oído mi súplica". A
San Simón y San Judas Tadeo se les celebra la fiesta en un
mismo día porque según una antigua tradición los dos iban
siempre juntos todas partes a predicar la Palabra de Dios.
Ambos fueron llamados por Jesús para formar parte del
grupo de sus 12 escogidos o apóstoles. Ambos recibieron
el Espíritu Santo en forma de lenguas de fuego el día de
Pentecostés y presenciaron los milagros de Jesús en Galilea y Judea y oyeron sus sermones; le vieron ya resucitado
y hablaron con Él después de su santa muerte en la Cruz,
le vieron luego de Su gloriosa resurrección y fueron testigos presénciales Su ascensión al cielo. A Judas se le llama
Tadeo para diferenciarlo de Judas Iscariote que fue el que
entregó a Jesús. San Judas Tadeo escribió una de las Cartas del Nuevo Testamento.

Jakub i Jan synowie Zebedeusza zbliżyli się do Jezusa i rzekli: Nauczycielu, chcemy, żebyś nam uczynił
to, o co Cię poprosimy. On ich zapytał: Co chcecie,
żebym wam uczynił? Rzekli Mu: Daj nam, żebyśmy w
Twojej chwale siedzieli jeden po prawej, drugi po lewej Twej stronie. Jezus im odparł: Nie wiecie, o co
prosicie. Czy możecie pić kielich, który Ja mam pić,
albo przyjąć chrzest, którym Ja mam być ochrzczony?
Odpowiedzieli Mu: Możemy. Lecz Jezus rzekł do nich:
Kielich, który Ja mam pić, pić będziecie; i chrzest,
który Ja mam przyjąć, wy również przyjmiecie. Nie do
Mnie jednak należy dać miejsce po mojej stronie prawej lub lewej, ale [dostanie się ono] tym, dla których
zostało przygotowane. Gdy dziesięciu [pozostałych] to
usłyszało, poczęli oburzać się na Jakuba i Jana. A
Jezus przywołał ich do siebie i rzekł do nich: Wiecie,
że ci, którzy uchodzą za władców narodów, uciskają
je, a ich wielcy dają im odczuć swą władzę. Nie tak
będzie między wami. Lecz kto by między wami chciał
się stać wielkim, niech będzie sługą waszym. A kto by
chciał być pierwszym między wami, niech będzie niewolnikiem wszystkich. Bo i Syn Człowieczy nie przyszedł, aby Mu służono, lecz żeby służyć i dać swoje
życie na okup za wielu.

Czuwanie nocne
W najbliższą sobotę, 28 października odbędzie się
jak co miesiąc czuwanie nocne w naszym kościele
Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej. Rozpoczęcie czuwania o godz. 7:00 wieczorem. W programie czuwania m.in. nabożeństwo Drogi Krzyżowej, Różaniec oraz ok. 9:30 wieczorem Msza św. Podczas
czuwania będzie możliwość skorzystania z sakramentu pokuty.

popołudniem zapraszamy na festiwal szczególnie
dlatego, ze weźmie w nim udział nasz zespół dziecięcy”.

Przypominamy, że w każdą trzecią niedzielę miesiąca w naszej parafii po
Mszy św. o godz. 10.30
odbywa się kurs przygotowujący rodziców i
chrzestnych do chrztu
dziecka.
Osoby zamierzające ochrzcić dziecko w naszej
parafii są proszone o zgłoszenie się na ten kurs
prze chrztem dziecka. Dlatego należy pamiętać,
aby:
► zgłosić się do kancelarii parafialnej przynajmniej półtora miesiąca prze chrztem. (Aby
uczestniczyć w kursie przygotowującym)
► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia dziecka.
