PRZEGLĄD ANTROPOLOGICZNY –
ANTHROPOLOGICAL REVIEW
GUIDE FOR AUTHORS
Revised November 2000
Przegląd Antropologiczny – Anthropological Review, appearing yearly, publishes original and
significant articles on physical anthropology, and related fields of science. Articles are published
in English (while chronicle in Polish). The Editor accepts the following categories of texts:
– Scientific papers (original studies, review articles)
– Short articles and comments (polemics, research reports, history of anthropology)
– Book reviews
– Chronicle (proceedings, obituaries, and news).
All works submitted are subjected to reviews by the Editor and external referees.
SCIENTIFIC PAPERS AND SHORT ARTICLES
General instructions: The manuscript should be submitted on a diskette (or via e-mail) together with two hard copies, printed on one side of A4 paper with 1.5 line spacing, and a margin of 2.5 cm all round.
The manuscript should contain the following parts:
1. Title page; 2. Text; 3. References; 4. Summary; 5. Tables; 6. Figure legends.
Title page: The title page must contain:
– Title
– Author’s name (or names)
– Abstract (about 150 words or less)
– A list of five key words
– Full address of a scientific institution from which the paper emanated with e-mail address
References: Bibliography should contain only authors cited previously in the text. References
should be listed alphabetically at the end of the paper, without numbering consecutive items.
Articles in periodicals should be cited by full title and inclusive pagination. Titles of periodicals
should be abbreviated in accordance with the World List of Scientific Periodicals. Authors’ surnames should be in small capitals. The example below shows the way of presenting bibliography:

not be included among references; they should be incorporated in the text. Authors’ surnames
and years of publication cited in the text should be included in square brackets, as in the example:
... previous reports [TOBIAS et al. 1985; WOLPOFF 1996a, b]...
... as CAMPBELL [1985: p. 93] points out...

Summary: Each manuscript should be accompanied by a summary in Polish of about 10% of
the text proper (not exceeding three pages). The summary should contain all significant information about the work, such as materials and methods, theses, results, and conclusions, as well
as references to tables and illustrations.
Tables: All tables together with their titles should be submitted on separate sheets. All tables
should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, and must be cited in the text. Tables
must be simple, and with as few vertical and horizontal lines as possible. Table titles should be
complete but brief. The author’s suggestions as regards placing tables should be marked in
pencil on the margin of the text.
Illustrations: All figures must be numbered and cited in the text. Illustrations should not
merely graphically reproduce numerical data from tables. All illustrations must be submitted at
A4 size. Please, remember that lettering and labels must be readable after reduction to printed
size.
Illustrating material must be submitted in complete, ready to reproduction form with brief and
adequate captions. Figure captions should be listed on a separate sheet. Photocopies made on
bad-quality duplicating machine, as well as hand drawings will not be accepted. To achieve
optimum quality, line drawings must be clean and of adequate contrast, drawn with black ink
on white paper, or laser-printed, and photographs should be black-and-white on glossy paper.
On the reverse side of each illustration the author’s surname and figure number should be
placed. Illustrations should not be pasted into the text; the author’s suggestions as regards
placing illustrations should be marked in pencil on the margin of the text. Please, do not fasten
illustrations together with paper clips, staples etc.
Authors’ illustrations should also, where possible, be supplied as both hard copy and electronic
files. In that case, figures should be saved in a separate file from the main text of the manuscript. The Editor will not return to authors illustrations to the works accepted for publication.
OTHER SUBMISSIONS
Book reviews: The journal publishes reviews and discussions of books by Polish as well as
foreign authors. Each review should begin with the title of the book followed by author(s),
publisher, date, page count, price, and ISBN number, as in the example below:
Visions of Caliban: On Chimpanzees and People, Dale Peterson & Jane Goodall, Boston,
Houghton Mifflin, 1993, pp. 367, $ 22.95, ISBN 0-395-53760-6
The review should consist of text only, without abstract, tables, illustrations, bibliography, or
summary. The reviewer’s name and address should be placed at the end of the review.
Chronicle: Under that heading the journal publishes proceedings of meetings and conferences,
reports from field works, activities of scientific associations and anthropological centers in
Poland and abroad, as well as information about scientific degrees and titles received by
anthropologists, changes on positions in anthropological institutions, jubilees, decorations,
departures, obituaries etc.
FINAL REMARKS
Language: If possible, articles should be supplied in both English and Polish versions.
Editor’s rights: The Editor reserves the right to make some corrections (not changing essentials of the work) as regards style, phraseology, arrangement of tables etc., without communicating with the author. If the Editor decides that the manuscript requires essential changes, the
author will be asked to accept those changes. The Editor reserves the right to return to authors
manuscripts and illustrations which are not in proper form.

Proof: Authors receive a single set of page and illustration proofs for checking. All corrections
should be returned to the Editor within three days. In the case of delay, the author’s corrections
may not be taken into consideration.
Reprints: Authors receive 15 free reprints of an article after publication, which should be
shared among authors if there is more than one. Further offprints and copies of the issue of the
journal are available on payment and can be ordered while returning proofs.
Electronic submission: You must submit your manuscript on diskette or via e-mail (to either
[email protected] or [email protected]) along with two hard copy printouts. The text
should be on a 3 ½″ high-density disk in Windows, or IBM MS-DOS format. Microsoft Word
7.0 is the preferred, although other versions, or word processing packages will also be accepted. Submit the text and tables of each manuscript as a single file. Label all disks with your
name, the file name, and the word processing program and version used.

WSKAZÓWKI DLA AUTORÓW

Przegląd Antropologiczny – Anthropological Review, ukazujący się raz w roku, publikuje oryginalne i istotne artykuły z zakresu antropologii i dziedzin pokrewnych. Artykuły publikowane
są w języku angielskim (jedynie kronika w jęz. polskim). Nadsyłane do redakcji materiały
mogą należeć do następujących kategorii:
– Prace naukowe (oryginalne opracowania, artykuły przeglądowe)
– Artykuły drobne i komentarze (polemiki, doniesienia z badań, historia antropologii)
– Recenzje książek
– Kronika (sprawozdania, nekrologi, nowości).
Wszystkie nadesłane prace poddane zostaną recenzji wydawniczej.
PRACE NAUKOWE I ARTYKUŁY DROBNE
Wskazówki ogólne: Tekst powinien być przesłany na dyskietce (lub poprzez e-mail) wraz z 2
egzemplarzami wydruku na arkuszach formatu A4, drukowane jednostronnie, z zachowaniem
odstępu 1,5 między wierszami oraz z 2,5 cm marginesami po każdej stronie.
Tekst artykułu powinien zawierać następujące części:
1. Strona tytułowa; 2. Tekst; 3. Piśmiennictwo; 4. Streszczenie; 5. Tabele; 6. Podpisy ilustracji.
Strona tytułowa: Strona tytułowa musi zawierać:
– Tytuł pracy
– Imię i nazwisko autora (lub autorów w pracach zbiorowych)
– Abstrakt (zawierający do około 150 słów)
– Listę 5 słów kluczowych
– Adres instytucji naukowej, w której praca została wykonana wraz z adresem e-mailowym
Piśmiennictwo: W piśmiennictwie podaje się wyłącznie autorów uprzednio cytowanych
w artykule. Spis literatury musi być zestawiony w porządku alfabetycznym na końcu pracy,
bez numeracji poszczególnych pozycji. Odsyłaczem do literatury jest wyłącznie nazwisko
autora z datą publikacji, a nie numer. Artykuły z czasopism muszą być cytowane z podaniem
całego tytułu oraz strony początkowej i końcowej. Tytuły periodyków powinny być skrócone
zgodnie ze Światową Listą Czasopism Naukowych. Nazwiska autorów cytowanych w artykule
i piśmiennictwie należy pisać kapitalikami (a nie wielkimi literami). Sposób cytowania piśmiennictwa przedstawiony jest na załączonym przykładzie:

„Doniesienia ustne”, „niepublikowane obserwacje” i „artykuły w przygotowaniu” nie powinny
być włączane do piśmiennictwa, a jedynie umieszczane w tekście. W tekście, nazwiska autorów i datę publikacji podawać należy w nawiasach kwadratowych, np.:
... wcześniejsze doniesienia [TOBIAS et al. 1985; WOLPOFF 1996a, b] ...
... jak wskazuje CAMPBELL [1985: p. 93] ...
Streszczenie: Do każdego opracowania należy dołączyć streszczenie w jęz. polskim o objętości 10% zasadniczego tekstu (maksymalnie do 3 stron maszynopisu), zawierające wszystkie
istotne informacje o materiale i metodach, tezach pracy, jej wynikach i wnioskach oraz odsyłacze do tabel i ilustracji.
Tabele: Wszystkie tabele wraz z podpisami należy umieszczać na oddzielnych kartkach. Każda tabela musi mieć swój odsyłacz w tekście. Powinny one być ponumerowane kolejno cyframi arabskimi. Materiał tabelaryczny musi być jak najprostszy, z maksymalnie zredukowaną
liczbą linii pionowych i poziomych. Podpis tabeli powinien być kompletny, ale krótki. Życzenia autorów dotyczące miejsca umieszczenia tabel winny być zaznaczone ołówkiem na marginesie tekstu.
Ilustracje: Każda ilustracja musi mieć swój odsyłacz w tekście. Ilustracje nie powinny być
tylko graficznym powtórzeniem danych liczbowych zawartych w tabelach. Nadsyłane ilustracje nie mogą być większe niż arkusz formatu A4. Należy pamiętać, że tekst w obrębie ilustracji
musi pozostać czytelny po ewentualnym pomniejszeniu rysunku.
Materiał ilustracyjny musi być przedstawiony w kompletnej i gotowej do reprodukcji formie,
z krótkimi i adekwatnymi podpisami. Podpisy ilustracji należy zestawiać na osobnej stronie.
Kopie ilustracji sporządzone na złej jakości kserokopiarce nie będą akceptowane, również nie
będą akceptowane ilustracje wykonane odręcznie. By otrzymać optymalną jakość, ilustracje
kreskowe powinny być czyste, kontrastowe, wykonane czarnym tuszem na białym tle, albo na
laserowej drukarce, a fotografie czarno-białe na błyszczącym papierze.
Na odwrotnej stronie każdej ilustracji należy umieścić nazwisko autora i numer porządkowy
ilustracji. Nie należy samodzielnie włamywać ilustracji do tekstu; życzenia autorów dotyczące
miejsca umieszczenia ilustracji winny być zaznaczone ołówkiem na marginesie tekstu. Prosimy nie spinać ilustracji spinaczami, zszywkami itp.
Jeśli to możliwe prosimy dostarczać ilustracje również w wersji elektronicznej. Wówczas powinny być one zapisane jako oddzielny plik. Redakcja nie zwraca materiału ilustracyjnego
pracy zaakceptowanej do druku.
INNE PUBLIKACJE
Recenzje książek: Przegląd Antropologiczny publikuje recenzje i omówienia książek autorów
polskich i zagranicznych. Każda recenzja powinna się zaczynać od podania tytułu, a następnie
nazwisk autorów, wydawcy, daty, liczby stron, ceny i numeru ISBN, jak na podanym przykładzie:

Recenzja nie powinna zawierać innego materiału (abstrakt, tabele, ilustracje, bibliografia,
streszczenie) niż tekst. Nazwisko recenzenta i adres winny być umieszczone na końcu recenzji.
Kronika: W sekcji tej publikujemy sprawozdania ze zjazdów i konferencji, z badań terenowych, z działalności towarzystw naukowych oraz ośrodków antropologicznych w Polsce
i innych krajach, a także informacje dotyczące osiąganych przez antropologów stopni i tytułów
naukowych, zmian stanowisk w instytucjach antropologicznych, jubileuszy, odznaczeń, wyjazdów, nekrologi itp.

UWAGI KOŃCOWE
Język: Artykuły i recenzje powinny być dostarczone zarówno w wersji angielskiej, jak
i polskiej (w celu wykonania ewentualnej korekty językowej).
Prawa Redakcji: Redakcja zastrzega sobie prawo dokonywania drobnych, nie zmieniających
merytorycznie treści pracy poprawek dotyczących stylu, mianownictwa, formy ujęć tabelarycznych itp., bez porozumienia z autorem. Jeżeli redakcja uzna, że nadesłany maszynopis
wymaga istotnych zmian, propozycje tych zmian autor otrzyma do akceptacji. Redakcja zastrzega sobie prawo do zwrotu manuskryptu i ilustracji do autorów jeśli nie będą one we właściwej formie.
Korekta: Autor otrzymuje do wykonania pierwszą korektę pracy i zobowiązany jest ją zwrócić
do Redakcji najpóźniej po 3 dniach od daty otrzymania. Przetrzymanie korekty może spowodować
nieuwzględnienie uwag autora.
Nadbitki: Po opublikowaniu artykułu jego autorzy otrzymają 15 bezpłatnych nadbitek autorskich do podziału. Dodatkowe nadbitki lub pełne numery Przeglądu Antropologicznego można
zamówić odpłatnie przy zwrocie korekty autorskiej.
Elektroniczne przysyłanie tekstu: Autorzy muszą przysyłać materiały do druku na dyskietce,
lub poprzez e-mail ([email protected] lub [email protected]). Niezależnie od tego,
należy nadesłać 2 egzemplarze wydruku pracy. Tekst powinien być dostarczony na 3 ½″ dyskietce w formacie Windows lub IBM MS-DOS. Preferowanym edytorem jest Microsoft Word
wersja 7.0, jakkolwiek prace przygotowane przy użyciu innej wersji Worda, lub innego edytora
tekstu, będą również akceptowane. Należy zapisać tekst i tabele jako jeden plik. Dysk powinien być opisany nazwiskiem autora, nazwą pliku oraz nazwą (i numerem wersji) użytego
programu.
