2nd Collection - For Food Pantry
was had by all on the way to and from Stockbridge,
Mass, even though the weather was not great. We are
most grateful to those people who supplied the group
with food and drinks. A donation of $500 was given
to St. Rose after expenses were paid.
 Divine Mercy Sunday Procession & Prayer Service
on April 3rd. We are grateful to all who participated
in the procession, starting at St. Rose of Lima, and
ending with a prayer service, at Regina Pacis led by
Bishop DiMarzio. It was a true sign of our faith and
commitment to the Catholic teachings.
CATHOLIC APPEAL 2016
Our goal for this year, as set by the diocese, is
$26,616. So far, 34 donors have pledged $10,981, and
$3,486 of those pledges have already been paid. Thank
you to those who have made pledges.

TODAY’S READINGS
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
First Reading - The Jews angrily reject Paul and
Barnabas’ preaching. They then turn their energies to the
Gentiles (Acts 13:14, 43-52).
Psalm - We are his people, the sheep of his flock
(Psalm 100).
Second Reading - John envisions a great white-robed
multitude standing before the throne and before the Lamb.
(Revelation 7:9, 14b-17).
Gospel - My sheep hear my voice; they follow me. I give
them eternal life (John 10:27-30).
Just as the early church consecrated women living
alone in the world, today that consecration is available to
women who take solemn vows as cloistered nuns
(different from religious sisters), women who follow a
way of life in communities called “secular institutes,” and
laywomen. Oddly, the ritual is not permitted for religious
sisters. The prayers talk about the woman’s self-gift to
Christ, and her self-gift to the Church. Up until recent
years, this was a solemn ceremony performed only for
cloistered nuns under certain circumstances. In its new
form, we have a ritual that revives a very ancient and little
known way of life. Today, a woman can live
independently at home, without association with any
religious sisterhood or institute, yet be consecrated to
holiness and service. Normally, a ring and/or a veil may
be given in the liturgy of consecration. It is a rite very
different from religious profession, where the sister
makes promises or vows, and is rather an expression of
approval and blessing for a way of life already embraced.
Unlike ancient times, which valued actual virginity, the
new rite may be celebrated for anyone provided there has
never been a marriage and the woman has always lived a

THE SHEPHERD’S FLOCK
In Christian art, the earliest depictions of Jesus Christ
were not of his crucifixion or of his resurrection. The first
known renderings of Jesus show him as the Good
Shepherd, the image put before us in today’s readings. In
the Gospel passage Jesus reveals that he is the shepherd
and his followers are his “flock.”
In the first and second readings, we are told more
about the flock. The passage from Acts assures us that
both Jews and Gentiles are called to follow Jesus. It is
faith, not birthright, that makes us part of the company of
believers. In the passage from the book of Revelation we
learn that the flock that follows this Lamb of God will
also be washed in his blood. They will endure a time of
trial before they enjoy eternal life. Be assured of the
promise, we are told, but know there is a price to be paid.

KOŚCIOŁA
31 stycznia 2005 ukazało się wydanie Annuario
Pontificio, które zawiera informacje dotyczące stanu
liczebnego Kościoła. Na podstawie zamieszczonych w
nim danych można prześledzić zmiany, jakie nastąpiły w
Kościele powszechnym w ostatnim czasie. Liczba
ochrzczonych w Kościele katolickim wzrosła o 15 mln
(z 1071 mln w r. 2002 do 1086 mln w r. 2003). W
Europie ogólna liczba katolików utrzymuje się na tym
samym poziomie, wzrosła natomiast na innych
kontynentach: w Afryce o 4,5%, w Azji o 2,2%, w
Oceanii o 1,3%, w Ameryce o 1,2%. Jeśli chodzi o
rozmieszczenie katolików na świecie, to niemal połowa z
nich (49,8%) żyje w Ameryce, w Europie 25,8%, w
Afryce 13,2%, w Azji 10,4%, w Oceanii 0,8%. Na
świecie jest 405 450 kapłanów, w tym 268 041
diecezjalnych i 137 409 zakonnych. W 2002 r. księży
było nieco mniej: 405 058; 267 334 diecezjalnych i 137
724 zakonnych. Przybywa też neoprezbiterów: w r. 2002
było ich 9247 (6534 diecezjalnych, 2713 zakonnych), a w
2003 r. - 9317 (6582 diecezjalnych, 2735 zakonnych).
Nieznacznie spadła liczba alumnów wyższych
seminariów duchownych: z 112 643 w r. 2002 do 112
373 w r. 2003. Najwięcej seminarzystów przygotowywało
się wówczas do kapłaństwa w Ameryce: 37 191. W Azji
było ich 27 931, w Europie 24 387, w Afryce 21 909, a w
Oceanii 955.
REFLEKSJA NA TEMAT CZYTAŃ...
Jezus Chrystus wszedł do chwały zmartwychwstania
przez krzyż. Chrześcijanin nie powinien sądzić, że
zostanie mu oszczędzone doświadczenie niezrozumienia
ze strony innych, a może nawet ucisku czy
prześladowania.
Jednak
żadne
tego
rodzaju
doświadczenia nie są w stanie nas odłączyć od Chrystusa.
Wsłuchiwanie się w Jego słowo i trwanie w nim pozwoli
nam zachować wierność w czasie próby.

¿QUIÉNES SOMOS?
¿Quiénes son el “nosotros” cuando cantamos “nosotros
somos su pueblo, ovejas de su rebaño” en el salmo
responsorial? Es muy fácil pensar que se trata solamente
de nosotros, en esta misa, o sólo los miembros de esta
parroquia o diócesis, o tal vez pensamos que somos sólo
los católicos en los Estados Unidos. Pero el “nosotros” es
mucho más grande y amplio. Si tomas un globo o un atlas
entre tus manos, te resultará difícil señalar un lugar o
tierra donde “nosotros” no estamos cantando ese salmo
hoy. No sólo eso, sino que “nosotros” somos los santos
que sobrevivieron la gran persecución, como describe la
lectura de hoy del Apocalipsis. Y el “nosotros” continúa
creciendo no solamente en número sino en complejidad y
diversidad pues la obra que Pablo y Bernabé comenzaron
hoy en la primera lectura continúa en la actualidad. Pero,
pese a que “nosotros” somos el rebaño del Señor, nos
cuesta comprender que todos oímos la voz de Jesucristo,
nuestro único pastor, a medida que continuamos
siguiéndolo fielmente en este tiempo de Pascua.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
El 25 de abril la Iglesia conmemora a Pedro de
Betancur (1626–1667). Originalmente de las Islas
Canarias, a la edad de 24, se trasladó a Cuba. En 1651
llegó a Guatemala con la ambición de predicar a Cristo.
Esto lo hizo, no como sacerdote ni religioso. El fue como
laico, reconociendo su deber bautismal de evangelizar.
En 1655 ingresó en la Orden Seglar Franciscana y
como laico quiso poner en práctica la espiritualidad
franciscana, ayudando a los pobres. Con su propio pan o
casa el alimentaba al hambriento y amparaba al indigente.
A todos recordaba la necesidad de la salvación y en la
simplicidad de su mensaje derretía el egoísmo de los
ricos. Les abría el corazón enseñándoles a compartir con
los más pequeños de sus hermanos y hermanas.
Eventualmente su nobleza de espíritu atrajo a
hombres y mujeres que deseaban compartir su apostolado
y fundó la Orden Betlehemita. También fundó la primera
escuela de niños en Centro América convirtiéndose en el
alfabetizador de Guatemala. Así dio ejemplo de lo que la
Iglesia debe hacer por el pobre y marginado.

MUCHAS GRACIS
Estamos muy agradecidos a todos los que participaron
Marzo 4 en la procesión, a partir de Santa Rosa de Lima, y
terminando con un servicio de oración, en Regina Pacis
encabezada por el Obispo DiMarzio. Fue un verdadero signo de
nuestra fe y compromiso con las enseñanzas católicas.
Tambien muchas gracias a esos que fueron al viaje en
autobús Marzo 3, a Stockbridge, al santuario nacional de la
misericordia divina. Estamos muy agradecidos a aquellas
personas que suministraron el grupo con los alimentos y
bebidas. Una donación de $ 500 fue dada a Santa Rosa después
de los gastos fueron pagados.
