Outline Description
Large, stone, neoclassical church with a large dome.
Property Description
The Church was built in 1570 and for thirteen years it served as one of the
parish churches in Valletta till the Parish Church dedicated to Saint Paul was
built. The image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, depicted on the altarpiece was
crowned in 1881 and the church was declared a Basilica in 1895. In 1958 the
Basilica was rebuilt. It was blessed in 1981. On the facade one finds a niche of
the MAdonna of Mount Carmel.
