The subject of the last conference (2011) was the dignity of man, and of the previous one (2009) – the idea of information. The subject of the upcoming conference is SCIENCE – ITS POSSIBILITIES AND LIMITATIONS CONFERENCE MOTTO: By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundation (Proverbs 3:19) Contemporary science plays a very dynamic role in shaping the world around us. Its cognitive progress and technical, medical, biological and other successful applications may cause the tendency to treat science as an absolute value – as a highest good and ultimate purpose of humanity. On the other hand some of the aspects of science bring concern – and also its limitations are being realized. The goal of this conference is to relate to the tensions between the ambitions of science and the understanding of its insufficiency (science is not able to answer all the questions – and there are ethical limitations also). So there is a need to supplement it by reflection going beyond the borders of science. The conferences sessions will consist of introduction, short presentations and discussion. They will deal with the following topics or disciplines: I. What is science? (Origins of science, contemporary views on it) Introduction: Jan Woleński II. Astronomy (Cosmological models, antrophic principles) Introduction: Konrad Rudnicki III. Mathematics (Theorems showing the limits of mathematics) Introduction: Roman Murawski IV. Physics (Open problems, limits of knowlegde) Introduction: Krzysztof Meissner V. Biology and medicine (Phenomenon of life, its development, genetic engineering) Introduction: to be announced VI. Technology (Description: to be announced) Introduction: Zenon Waszczyszyn VII. Theology (Relationships between science and theology) Introduction: Janusz Mączka VIII. Ethics (Is everything allowed?) Introduction: Andrzej Szostek IX.
