Joanna: Hello.My name is Joanna and one of my tyres is broken.
CSA: So, have you got a flat tyre?
J: Well… maybe.
CSA: Is there any air in your tyre?
J: Just a little bit.
CSA: It must be a flat tyre then. Can I have your reference number?
J: It is A 6609/8
CSA: Where are you ?
J: I am on the A38.
CSA: Can you give me more exact information?
J: I am very close to the Shell Petrol Station in Trerulefoot. I was driving towards
Plymouth.
CSA: Thank you. I am sending an engineer now.
J: How long will it take?
CSA: I am afraid we are very busy today. It may be an hour or more.
Could you slow down!?

S: Oh, come on … we don’t have time. We have to get there before 9pm.
J: It is not a highway! Slow down … !
S: I didn’t see any police patrols. Don’t worry … Oh… what was that?
J: It was a speed camera … it just took a photo of you and your car. Now you will have
to pay a fine! I warned you …

may call an ambulance, the police or the fire brigade.

Receptionist: Ambulance station. Can I have your name and address.
Joanna: My name is Joanna Kubacki. 4 Corwnall Street, Liskeard. There was a car
accident and we need an ambulance quickly!
R: Calm down Joanna. Where did the accident happen?
J: In Liskeard, by the train station. Send a doctor, quickly!
R: How many people are injured?
J: Three people are trapped in a car. One of them is unconscious. Hurry up! They need
a doctor!
R: I am sending an ambulance and three paramedics now. Joanna listen carefully: you
can talk to the casualties, but don’t touch them! Don’t try to get them out of the car. I will
call the fire brigade to get them out. Stay with them and tell them that everything will be
all right.
J: We are waiting. Please hurry up!

There are two different ways of expressing imperatives or telling people what to do in
English.
