SUMMARY The aim of this study was to examine the reaction of meadow mites to different forms and doses of commonly used natural fertilization. Soil mites are strictly dependant on their surrounding environment, therefore, the influence of the fertilizers used on the soil and vegetation of the meadow was also studied. The fertilizers and their different doses tested on the mites were also evaluated from the viewpoint essential for the agriculture in order to determine the optimal doses of natural fertilization on vegetation, meadow harvesting and the nutrition value of the green matter, while minimizing the threats to the natural environment. The permament meadow on which the study was conducted belongs to the community of Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class that is one if the most valuable meadows and pastures. Seven experimental plots were determined on the meadow, each measuring 4 x 4 m, which were separated with isolating space with the width of 5 m. The fertilizers used in the studies (fresh cattle manure and granulated cattle manure), were used according to the nitrogen content in 3 doses: 80 kg N·ha-1, 140 kg N·ha-1, 200 kg N·ha-1. The samples of mites were extracted from every plots during the 3 seasons: spring, summer and autumn, everytime in 10 repeats; they were submitted to the process of extraction in the modified Tullgren funnels for 8 days, conserved in 75% ethyl alcohol and dissected in lactic acid. In the soil of the studied permament meadow the average number of mites was low (18,1 thous. indiv.·m-2) and the largest group of mites were the oribatida (76% of the total). It was observed that the number of mites and the size of the harvest were decreasing with the increase of the nitrogen dose. The dose of 200 kg N·ha-1reduced the number of mites and oribatida significantly, as well as the size of the harvest per hectare, which confirms the rightful rule of limiting the fertilization to 170 kg N·ha-1 in a year. The natural fertilization applied also affected other parameters of the soil mites. Natural fertilizers, especially in small doses, changed the seasonal dynamic of mites in favor of the autumn. It was also observed that on the fertilized plots there is a greater species diversity of oribatida, which leads to changes in the structure of domination in this group of mites. The presence of new species of oribatida could have been caused by the changes taking place in the soil environment after the fertilization conducted. The natural fertilization did not alter the arrangement of mites in the vertical structure and the oribatid age structure, which depend mainly on the biology and ecology of the species, the given period, the life cycle of particular species and food availability.
