To make your stay in Kraków a pleasant one, here is some general information on public services.
Money
The standard unit of currency in Poland is złoty (PLN). ATM /cash machines are widely available
in Kraków. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops. Banks are usually open
Monday-Friday 9:00 to 18:00 and closed during the weekend (with some exceptions on Saturdays).
Money can be exchanged at the airport, banks and currency exchange kiosks (kantor wymiany
walut). Kantors can be found on most every major street and generally have a better exchange rate
than banks (however please take careful notice of the displayed exchange rate, for example 3.90 and
not 3.09 per euro).
Transport
The Kraków “Balice” airport is connected with the city centre by:
- bus number 192 (ticket 2.50 PLN, available at the bus stop or from the driver [+0.50 PLN])
- local train (offering a quick connection from the train station in the city centre; at the airport
station a bus will connect you 200 metres to the main terminal)
- taxi (approximately 50PLN to/from the city centre)
A taxi ordered by phone is generally cheaper than one hailed on the street. Try one of the following
reputable taxi networks: Radio Taxi (9191), Barbakan Taxi (9661), Euro Taxi (9664), Mega Taxi
(9625) or Metro Taxi (9667).
Telephones
Public telephones are widely available throughout Kraków. They can also be found within the
Congress venues. All telephones require a prepaid card. Telephone cards (karta telefoniczna) can be
purchased in newsagent kiosks and post offices. If you are calling within Poland you have to dial
“0”, followed by the area code (“12” for Kraków), and a seven digit number.
