October 3, 2010 ŚWIĘTA JADWIGA ? SANTA EDUVIGES 2226 NORTH HOYNE AVE. • CHICAGO, IL 60647 St. Hedwig, pray for us. Św. Jadwigo, módl się za nami. Santa Eduviges, ruega por nosotros. ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO Administered by the Resurrection Fathers and Brothers. Celebrating 121 years in the Bucktown Community. 2 NOTES AND EVENTS RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY OCTOBER 3, 2010 XXVII SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4 THE READINGS are the voice of the oppressed, crying for help to the Lord. It could be the voice of the child torn from her mother’s womb or the quiet groan of the old man as he is given an extra shot of morphine to end his “inconvenient” life. It could be the fearful gasp of the executed prisoner, or of the neglected and abused child put out on the street by his own parent. It is the voice of the voiceless and the cry of the desperate. But the Lord hears the cry of the poor and comes to their aid. If, then, we are to be about the work of God, we will do everything in our power to save the one whose life has been thrown away or taken away. This is truly the work of God. God cannot leave the crime unpunished: from the ground on which it has been spilt, the blood of the one murdered demands that God should render justice (cf. Gn 37:26; Is 26:21; Ez 24:7-8). From this text the Church has taken the name of the ‘sins which cry to God for justice’, and, first among them, she has included wilful murder. For the Jewish people, as for many peoples of antiquity, blood is the source of life. Indeed ‘the blood is the life’ (Dt 12:23), and life, especially human life, belongs only to God: for this reason whoever attacks human life, in some way attacks God himself. CHOIR PRACTICE: • Every Wednesday at 7:30 PM in the Church CORO: • Español: Todos los Miercoles en el basement del convento. Say the Rosary every day… Pray, pray a lot and offer sacrifices for sinners... I'm Our Lady of the Rosary. Only I will be able to help you. ...In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph." Our Lady at Fatima CHILDREN OF FATIMA: Ist Saturday of the month 4 PM in the Convent Mass at 5:00 P.M. T he word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lays the awesome story of our salvation. With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow and the glory of Jesus and Mary. It's a simple prayer, humble so much like Mary. It's a prayer we can all say together with Her, the Mother of God. With the Hail Mary we invite Her to pray for us. Our Lady always grants our request. She joins Her prayer to ours. Therefore it becomes ever more useful, because what Mary asks She always receives, Jesus can never say no to whatever His Mother asks for. • PARISH SOCIETIES DOLMA: • Ist Saturday of the month, Novena at 4:00 PM BAPTISM CLASS: Monday, October 18 At 7:00 PM in Convent. The packet includes three additional envelopes dedicated to specific projects that we are presently pursuing or plan to pursue in the near future. Today let me mention two of these projects: Rectory Chapel Since we had some leaks from the radiators in the room above the Rectory Chapel, the Chapel walls have been badly damaged and affected by the mold. That is why we are in the process of the Chapel renovation. Accessibility Project As it is easily visible to everybody, our wooden ramp is in a very poor shape. We would like to replace it with a solid concrete and stone construction with a strong wrought iron railing. Also, we would like to make our Convent building accessible to the people with physical disabilities. This project should start this week and be completed at the beginning of November. Our activities depend on your prayers and on your generosity. That is why we ask for your help, so we could complete these projects successfully. Thank you for your continued support!!! FOCUS ON THE WORD 27th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Today’s first reading comes from the Prophet Habakkuk. Habakkuk lived around 650 years before the Lord. It was a time of violence. The Babylonians had conquered the Assyrians and were threatening or attacking the rest of the world, including the Kingdom of Judah. The Jews themselves were continually assaulting each other. Hatred and violence were seen as part of life, even accepted. Habakkuk’s society was not all that much different than ours, where violence and might are glorified and the weak are kept in their place. This is Respect Life Sunday. Our country allows unique lives to be murdered before birth. Even some Catholics who are adamantly opposed to abortion have no difficulty with capital punishment as though lowering ourselves to the level of the killer is acceptable. Violence is all around us. Our young people go to middle school, high school and college afraid that some of their classmates might turn on them, not just in the extreme as at Virginia Tech or Columbine High School, but even in the everyday playground scuffles where turf wars are fought not just with fists but with weapons. O permanecerías atado a ella. W rzeczywistości nie taki grzech straszny, jak go maluje wyobraźnia, tylko my jesteśmy uzależnieni od przyjemności i nie mamy wiary w to, że można go pokonać. Zmysły są łącznikiem pomiędzy światem ducha i ciała. Zanim ulegniemy grzechowi, w naszej wyobraźni pojawiają się pewne wizje, plany, marzenia i obrazy. Piekło reklamuje się oryginalnie i ekscytująco. Te wizje można porównać do owych owoców morwy, budzących do ataku bestie demonów.
