Luke 2:41-52
The boy Jesus is found in the Temple.
Background on the Gospel Reading
Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. This feast is part
of the Christmas season, and we should place today's Gospel in
the context of what Luke's Gospel tells us about the birth of Jesus. Luke has been answering the question “Who is Jesus?”
through his stories of the births of John the Baptist and Jesus.
Today's Gospel reading continues this theme. It has no parallel in
the other Gospels and is the conclusion of Luke's Infancy Narrative.
Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are presented in this Gospel as a faithful Jewish family. They are participating in the annual pilgrimage
to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, an event shared each
year with family and friends. When Jesus is found, Luke describes him as seated in the Temple in the midst of the Jewish
teachers. Although he is young, Jesus seems not to need teaching about his Jewish tradition. In his dialogue with these learned
teachers, Jesus astounds them with his insight and understanding. Jesus is a child of Israel. His Father is God.
The dialogue between Mary and Jesus contains many references
to family relationships. In fact, in this Gospel reading Mary and
Joseph are never identified by name. Instead they are referred to
by their relationship to Jesus. Ultimately, this emphasizes Luke's
point about the identity of Jesus. When Mary and Joseph find
Jesus in the Temple, they question Jesus and express their anxiety. Jesus replies in words that many have thought to be disrespectful. Jesus says that he was never lost; he was at home.
Jesus is God's Son, and he is in his Father's house. Luke will
continue to suggest that faith in Jesus establishes new family
relationships as he describes Jesus' public ministry.
In Luke's Gospel, Mary's importance is even greater than her role
as Jesus' mother. Mary is the first disciple and will be present
with Jesus' disciples after his Resurrection at Pentecost.

Dear Friends in Christ,
Filled with awe and wonder at the mystery of the
Incarnation, how do we welcome God Incarnate?
Filled with awe and wonder at the mystery of the
Eucharist, how do we approach its celebration?
During this Year of Sunday Mass, it is fitting to
point out that the world is different because Mass is celebrated and we
participate in that celebration. Not just we individually, not just the
Church, but the world as a whole would be a very different place were
the Holy Eucharist not celebrated.
Since the first Christians in Jerusalem discovered their identity around
December 30, 2012
the altar of the Lord on his day, Catholics have known that without the
Mass they cannot live fully in Christ. By inviting us to a new life and
shaping our attitudes toward this life, the Eucharist does not merely
express who we are and what we believe; it helps us discover who we
are and what we can become in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Full and active
participation in the liturgy leads us to embrace the truth, to take up the
cross, and to follow in the footsteps of Jesus throughout every dimension of our lives in praying for life eternal.
Through the Eucharist, the power of the Holy Spirit transforms us into
the living Body of Christ, set to transform the world. Moreover, it
moves us to express in action what it is that unites us to God and
therefore to one another. When we are faithful to the image of God
stamped upon us through baptism so that we are like Jesus Christ and
when, in the celebration of the liturgy, our actions are witnesses to
God’s own transcendence, our lives are holy. When we live in the
world with Christ’s love, spreading his peace and justice, we are God’s
instruments. This in its entirety is the spirit of the liturgy. Liturgy is not
about us except to the extent that we are in Christ.
As Mary eloquently expresses in the Magnificat: “My soul proclaims
the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior,” may
you go forth from Mass “glorifying the Lord by your life.” You will be
remembered in my Christmas Masses and prayers. A blessed and
Merry Christmas to all!

LA SAGRADA FAMILIA: JESUS, MARIA Y JOSE
Los padres de Jesús iban todos los años a Jerusalén para la
fiesta de la Pascua. Cuando Jesús cumplió los doce años, subió
también con ellos a la fiesta, pues así había de ser. Al terminar
los días de la fiesta regresaron, pero el niño Jesús se quedó en
Jerusalén sin que sus padres lo supieran. Seguros de que estaba con la caravana de vuelta, caminaron todo un día. Después
se pusieron a buscarlo entre sus parientes y conocidos. Como no
lo encontraran, volvieron a Jerusalén en su búsqueda. Al tercer
día lo hallaron en el Templo, sentado en medio de los maestros
de la Ley, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas. Todos los
que le oían quedaban asombrados de su inteligencia y de sus
respuestas. Sus padres se emocionaron mucho al verlo; su madre le decía: «Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Tu padre y yo
hemos estado muy angustiados mientras te buscábamos.» El les
contestó: «¿Y por qué me buscaban? ¿No saben que yo debo
estar donde mi Padre?» Pero ellos no comprendieron esta respuesta. Jesús entonces regresó con ellos, llegando a Nazaret.
Posteriormente siguió obedeciéndoles. Su madre, por su parte,
guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón. Mientras tanto, Jesús crecía en sabiduría, en edad y en gracia, ante Dios y ante los
hombres.

Lucas habla de María y José, buscando a Jesús, a quien encontraron en el templo con los maestros, quienes lo escuchaban y le hacían preguntas.
Jesús siempre está dispuesto a escuchar. ¿Qué preguntas
debo traer a Jesús esta semana a la Misa?
Vivamos la Palabra de Dios
La fiesta de la Sagrada Familia nos da
la oportunidad de detenernos a contemplar el fenómeno de la familia. Si pudiéramos duplicar el amor que María, José
y Jesús se tenían mutuamente, son inimaginables los efectos ricos y positivos
que ese amor pudiera ser.
La rectoría se encontrara cerrada el día

ŚWIĘTO ŚWIĘTEJ RODZINY
JEZUSA, MARYI I JÓZEFA
Rodzice Jezusa chodzili co roku do Jerozolimy na Święto
Paschy. Gdy miał lat dwanaście, udali się tam zwyczajem
świątecznym. Kiedy wracali po skończonych uroczystościach, został Jezus w Jerozolimie, a tego nie zauważyli
Jego Rodzice. Przypuszczając, że jest w towarzystwie pątników, uszli dzień drogi i szukali Go wśród krewnych i
znajomych.
Gdy Go nie znaleźli, wrócili do Jerozolimy, szukając Go.
Dopiero po trzech dniach odnaleźli Go w świątyni, gdzie
siedział między nauczycielami, przysłuchiwał się im i zadawał pytania. Wszyscy zaś, którzy Go słuchali, byli zdumieni bystrością Jego umysłu i odpowiedziami. Na ten widok
zdziwili się bardzo, a Jego Matka rzekła do Niego: "Synu,
czemuś nam to uczynił? Oto ojciec Twój i Ja z bólem serca
szukaliśmy Ciebie". Lecz On Im odpowiedział:
"Czemuście Mnie szukali? Czy nie wiedzieliście, że powinienem być w tym, co należy do mego Ojca?" Oni jednak
nie zrozumieli tego, co Im powiedział. Potem poszedł z
Nimi i wrócił do Nazaretu; i był Im poddany. A Matka Jego
chowała wiernie wszystkie te wspomnienia w swym sercu.
Jezus zaś czynił postępy w mądrości, w latach i w łasce u
Boga i u ludzi.

Dzisiaj obchodzimy Uroczystość Świętej Rodziny. Ewangelia Św. Łukasza
opowiada nam o Maryii i Józefie którzy poszukują Jezusa i znajdują Go w
Światyni wraz z nauczycielami słuchającymi Go i zadającymi mu pytania.
Jezus jest nieustannie gotowy aby nas słuchać. Z jakimi pytaniami przyszedłem do Jezusa na Mszę tego tygodnia.

Wzór Ojca
Ewangelia dzisiejsza zwraca uwagę
na św. Józefa. To on organizuje
przymusową emigrację Świętej Rodziny do Egiptu, on kieruje jej powrotem do ojczyzny. Ewangelia
opisuje to bardzo lakonicznie. Józef
słyszy głos Bożego wezwania:
„Wstań, weź Dziecię i Jego Matkę…”. I co robi? „On wstał, wziął w
nocy Dziecię i Jego Matkę i udał się
do Egiptu (wrócił do ziemi Izraela)”. Krótko, konkretnie, po męsku. Zrobił to, co było trzeba. Bez zbędnych słów, ceregieli,
marudzenia, użalania się na los. Co działo się w nim? Wyobrażam sobie, że – jak każdy, kto kocha – toczył walkę z
pokusami męskiego egoizmu, wygody, małej stabilizacji,
prawa do swojego szczęścia… Co by Maryja zrobiła bez
Józefa?
Powtarzające się czterokrotnie greckie słowo, tłumaczone
jako „wstań”, można również oddać jako „obudź się ze snu”.
Bóg obudził w Józefie ojca, wezwał, by był silniejszy niż
noc, która w Biblii jest symbolem działania mrocznych sił
zła. To samo słowo oznacza również powstanie z martwych.
Kiedy człowiek poddaje się słowu Boga, budzi się do życia,
przeżywa swoje małe zmartwychwstanie.
