The Biennale will be held in Cracow, from 15th till 17th of
The Biennale will be held in Cracow, from 15th till
17th of October, 2004. The 2004 Biennale's motto
will be: Architecture – the Art of Future;
it will concern the condition of architecture at the
beginning of the 21st century as well as the place
of architecture and art in the city, in theoretical and
design aspects. The place in which the Biennale
participants will meet, as well as the pretext for
general considerations, is the area obviously
influenced by the old Cracow.
Within the framework of the Biennale two
architectural competitions – Design Confrontation
and Exhibition – will be held. A photographic
competition, accompanying exhibitions, lectures
and business presentations will also take place.
architectural competition: design confrontation
The theme of the Design Confrontation is: The place of art in the city.
The subject of the competition are the places in the city, which can become
the spaces of art. They are the areas in Cracow, which have remained its
separateness and specificity in the place where the historic city's magic
influence is still great. The participants can select designing the Tadeusz
Kantor Museum at the Szczepański Square or the bridge gallery of art over
the Wisła river.
architectural competition: exhibition
The theme of the Exhibition Competition is: The place of art in the city.
The subject of the competition are ideas and visions of architecture as answers to
the question about its future. The answers should concern the spaces of art in the
city. Original forms of expression are expected, within the rules defined by the
conditions of the competition.
accompanying event: photographic competition
The theme of the Photographic Competition is: The art in the city.
The competition will be organized according to individual regulations and
judged by another jury. There will be financial prizes.
nature and procedure of the architectural competitions:
The competitions are of international, open, ideological (concept) character.
The competitions will be judged by the International Jury. Two equal financial
prizes are planned in each competition category. The honorary Grand Prix award
will be chosen from among the awarded entries. The competition will be
announced on the 16th of March, 2004, and the deadline for submitting entries will
be the 14th of September, 2004 (according to the date on the postmark). The
