The Biennale will be held in Cracow, from 15th till 17th of October, 2004. The 2004 Biennale's motto will be: Architecture – the Art of Future; it will concern the condition of architecture at the beginning of the 21st century as well as the place of architecture and art in the city, in theoretical and design aspects. The place in which the Biennale participants will meet, as well as the pretext for general considerations, is the area obviously influenced by the old Cracow. Within the framework of the Biennale two architectural competitions – Design Confrontation and Exhibition – will be held. A photographic competition, accompanying exhibitions, lectures and business presentations will also take place. architectural competition: design confrontation The theme of the Design Confrontation is: The place of art in the city. The subject of the competition are the places in the city, which can become the spaces of art. They are the areas in Cracow, which have remained its separateness and specificity in the place where the historic city's magic influence is still great. The participants can select designing the Tadeusz Kantor Museum at the Szczepański Square or the bridge gallery of art over the Wisła river. architectural competition: exhibition The theme of the Exhibition Competition is: The place of art in the city. The subject of the competition are ideas and visions of architecture as answers to the question about its future. The answers should concern the spaces of art in the city. Original forms of expression are expected, within the rules defined by the conditions of the competition. accompanying event: photographic competition The theme of the Photographic Competition is: The art in the city. The competition will be organized according to individual regulations and judged by another jury. There will be financial prizes. nature and procedure of the architectural competitions: The competitions are of international, open, ideological (concept) character. The competitions will be judged by the International Jury. Two equal financial prizes are planned in each competition category. The honorary Grand Prix award will be chosen from among the awarded entries. The competition will be announced on the 16th of March, 2004, and the deadline for submitting entries will be the 14th of September, 2004 (according to the date on the postmark). The competition results will be announced on the Biennale opening day – the 15th of October, 2004. rules of purchase of the conditions of the biennale: The conditions of the competition can be purchased in the Biennale Office (Kraków, Plac Szczepański 6) and read in all SARP Offices in Poland.
