North West Bioeconomy Centre BIOAgroTech – BIOAT
North West Bioeconomy Centre BIOAgroTech – BIOAT ASSUMPTIONS North West Bioeconomy Centre BIOAgroTech (BIOAT) was established in the IV quarter of 2013 as a result of the consolidation of the West Pomeranian Bioeconomy Centre (ZCB) and Wielkopolska Research Infrastructure Consortium For Bioeconomy (WKIBG). BIOAT is the initiative of 4 public universities from the West Pomeranian region, 9 research entities from Wielkopolska region (7 research institutes and 2 public universities) and one public university from Lubuskie region and the Marshals of the three regions. In November 2013 was signed a Letter of Intent, where the common goal of all signatories is the integration of research and implementation activities, with a view to the dynamic development of the bioeconomy focused in particular on the intensification of cooperation in framework of research projects and technology transfer to the companies. AREAS OF OPERATION North West Bioeconomy Centre (PZCB) as a multidisciplinary unit will carry out an extensive research program, which result in creation a Center of Excellence to meet the needs of the modern economy. PZCB will implement activities based around the five research areas: Ecologic and Healthy Food, Blue Bioeconomy (sustainable management of the water environment), Green Bioeconomy and Modern Industrial Biotechnology (environmental engineering, security of natural resources, eco-friendly transport, clean technologies, biomass, nanoprocesses and nanomanufacturing systems, advanced materials, advanced ICT technologies), Cogeneration technologies and improvements in energy efficiency, Life Sciences and Bioservices. PZCB works in many areas of the national economy especially in the Polish industry (MG-InSight 2030). A particularly important direction is to initiate and support innovative technology solutions for local manufacturing and service companies. In the scope of PZCB tasks are i.a.: food production and processing, development and application of clean technologies, acquisition and processing, waste management, development and implementation of new analytical and diagnostic methods, production of biosensors, biotechnology of micro-organisms, the use of biomass as a source of materials and energy, including biodegradable and functional materials, biorefining and biofuels and nanotechnology (nanocomposites, nanocatalysists, nanomedicine, nano-sensors and biomaterials, micro- and mini- heat exchangers) applied to the processes of energy from RES, heating and cooling. An important area of activities are also energy technologies in cogeneration, trigeneration and multigeneration aimed at rationalization of distributed generation. Scientists forming part of the PZCB will conduct activities at regional, national and international level, with the aim of active participation in the HORIZON 2020 programme.
