About Droga wojownika
DROGA WOJOWNIKA Collection of recently revealed treasured memories of the late general who made his nation proud through his GROM completion. His handshake was like an iron vice, his piercing eyes were ice blue. He used to say that God resents men of little faith. This man created GROM – special armed forces unit listed among the best in the world. General Sławomir Petelicki – a warrior, a commander, a legend. A man of honour and a perfect gentleman who remained a charming rogue with a dazzling, mischievous smile. An admired army commander who placed complete trust in his soldiers and a defiant spirit who antagonized many people with his stubbornness. "Droga wojownika" is a collection of recently revealed treasured memories of the late general who made his nation proud through his GROM completion. He is remembered by people he met at various stages of his eventful life: schoolmates, intelligence officers, special armed forces commanders, journalists and, above all, his brothers in arms – the commandoes who worked with him hand in hand to create GROM and who were lucky enough to serve under his command afterwards. They are the soldiers on whom he exerted the greatest impact, the ones who he managed to forge into a tight unit, bringing them together like fingers of one clenched fist. “General Sławomir Petelicki was a courageous and entrepreneurial officer, and they are rare, who had the character, vision and drive, during a period of transformation and confusion, to set up GROM in the face of considerable opposition. It was also a capability his country greatly needed. There are few military men who can claim to be founders of such a unit. To a great friend and a great Pole!” Aldwin Wight, former SAS Commander “While I knew General Petelicki and had great respect for his initiative in creating GROM, I am afraid I do not have much to contribute. I did visit his unit on his invitation, and I thoroughly enjoyed the event and was impressed by what he had accomplished. When I was serving in the US government, one of my responsibilities was to be informed about the development of similar units in the United States (which in fact General Petelicki told me precipitated his own initiative), and I was very struck by the similarity of the rigorous training and the demanding expectations placed on the young men eager to be challenged and determined to serve their country on the very front line”. Zbigniew Brzezinski, USA National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter “Sławomir Petelicki symbolized Poland for Americans - proud, patriotic and always hopeful despite adversity. His legacy and achievements should be an inspiration to all Poles”. Michael Sulick, former Director of the U.S. National Clandestine Service Znak Publishers 304 pages ISBN 978-83-240-2403-2
