ZAGADNIENIA KONKURSOWE
1. Etap pierwszy polega na rozwiązaniu pisemnego testu składającego się z 50 pytań
typu zamkniętego z wiedzy dotyczącej Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki
(geografia, święta narodowe, uroczystości i festiwale).
2. Etap drugi- (finał) konkursu, do którego przystępują laureaci konkursu
wewnątrzszkolnego, to kolejny 60-minutowy test pisemny (zadania typu
prawda/fałsz, wielokrotnego wyboru, itp.) obejmujący szerszy zakres wiedzy
dotyczącej edukacji, systemu politycznego, zdrowotnego i gospodarki Stanów
Zjednoczonych Ameryki.
Geography
The map of the USA, climate, states and their capitals, national parks, mountain ranges,
rivers, lakes, oceans, big cities, population, main regions.
Festivals and sport
American sports
Celebrations: e.g. Thanksgiving, Independence Day, etc
Education
The system of education: kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, higher education,
public vs. private, curriculum, exams, well-known universities.
Institutions
Division of powers (executive - Government, constitution, electoral system, powers of the
president, cabinet; judicial – court; legislative – Congress), two-party system, ‘third parties’,
the armed forces (NATO), law and order (police, courts, gun control, death penalty).
Economy/health
Social security and poverty, health (Medicare, insurance, A.F.D.C.), unemployment, most
important modern industries, mining, an automobile industry, agriculture, transportation,
banking and finance, foreign trade, budget deficit, recent financial crisis, entrepreneurs,
corporations, ‘from rags to riches’, free enterprise (‘the invisible hand’, capitalism – ‘laissez
faire’), GNP.
