FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS AND COSTS OF TRANSPORTATION OF CONTAINERS
ALONG THE TRANSPORT CORRIDOR OF LOWER VISTULA RIVER
Summary: Due to the development of container shipping in deepwater container terminal in the Northern
Port (DCT), problems with the delivery and collection of containers by rail and road appear. One of possible
solutions of the problem is to use the Waterway of Vistula River. The paper will present the possibilities of
B – Tczew – Solec Kujawski. The analysis takes into account the currently existing navigation conditions and restrictions on this section of river. With regard to the fleet, is was
assumed that the currently operated fleet, or known but not yet implemented units will be used. The maximum capacity of Lower Vistula section will be determined as well as the number of containers carried by a
particular type of fleet during the navigation season. Indicatory water transportation cost compared to the cost
of road and rail transport will be given. The analysis of the costs will also include external costs. The cost of
rail transport will be based on the official PKP CARGO tariff. The forecast of container supply for Vistula
River will be presented. This all is related to the development of shipping in the deepwater container terminal
in Gdansk (DCT).

THE PROBLEM OF PAIRING AIRPORT PASSENGER LANDSIDE CAPACITY
AND AIRCRAFT AIRSIDE CAPACITY
Abstract: Airport is a public airfield, which are implemented in commercial operation: people, and air
freight. The main objective of the airport is safe, quick and inexpensive handle the stream of passengers and
aircraft traffic flow. Basic parameters for assessing airport is throughput: passenger landside capacity and
aircraft airside capacity. The instantaneous value of the airside and landside capacity strongly depends on the
structure of the random motion and change dynamically (randomly). Increase in the number of passengers
entails expansion of the ground part of the port (landside) in which the service takes passengers. Regardless
taken is to develop parts of air (airside), which aims to increase the number of supported air operations. Coordination of the development of the two parts of an airport is indicated, but practice shows that the adopted
solutions are very different. Attempt to indicate the directions of coordination of infrastructure development
airside and landside taken using mathematical apparatus of rough sets.

THE METHOD OF SELECTION OF THE OPTIMAL METRO LINE ROUTE
Summary: Dynamically changing conditions necessitate conducting studies of transport system development
in every large city. The analysis of metro network construction and development, as in Warsaw, is therefore
still important. The goal of this article is to present the method of selection of the optimal metro line route.
The presented method consists of several stages:
I. designing of alternative routes of metro line taking into account potential journey origins and
destinations,
II. designing of on-ground public transport network,
III. simulation experiments in order to forecast passenger flows in alternative options,
IV. calculations of transport service parameters,
V. cost – benefit calculations,
VI. evaluation of alternative routes of metro lines.
The method is based on a simplified socio – economic costs – benefit analysis. It is assumed that simulations
experiments and cost – benefit calculations are performed only for one particular year. The issue of analysis
period was presented in the article. Evaluation criterion is the difference between the assumed annual equivalent benefits and costs in the particular year. The presented method was used in the analysis of third metro
line in Warsaw. Evaluation was conducted for 2040. The practical effect of this study is the proposition of the
third metro line route in Warsaw.

RATIONALIZATION OF THE EXPLOITATION PROCESS OF VIDEO MONITORING
SYSTEMS USED AT THE RAILWAY CROSSINGS
Summary: The article presents the issues related to the rail crossings and applied there visual monitoring
systems. A breakdown of rail crossings by applicable laws, as well as video monitoring systems have been
characterized. In the following part of the article are analysed the reliability-exploitation process with particular
emphasis on the four generic interim review. Mathematical calculations made it possible to rationalize the
process in order to increase the value of the rate of readiness. This increases the level of safety at crossings of
railways with roads.

SELECTED PROBLEMS OF CREATING A MODEL FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF THE
RAILWAY LINES ADAPTATION TO INTEROPERABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Summary: The article addresses the problem of assessing the adaptation of railway lines to requirements
of the interoperability in relation to amendments introduced under European Union (UE) directives. Setting
requirements for the interoperability based on Technical Specifications for Interoperability currently being
implemented on railways network in the EU. The wide variation in technical, operational,
and traffic-management aspects on particular railway lines require to use the appropriate tools to assess
the vulnerability of railway lines to meet requirements of the interoperability. Authors proposed to use such
analysis in the “MODIK” acronym model. This model has been based on the analysis of changes caused
by the implementation of interoperability requirements in the rail transport system. The following determinants have been defined and formulated: a research problem, decision variable, constraints and indicators of
the railway line. For the purposes of the simulation algorithms have been proposed which have changed the
matrix of train paths (routes for interoperable trains). Furthermore, they have been implemented into a computer application in the Scilab environment and Excel (for convenient data input).
The proposed "MODIK" model can be widely used in the case of feasibility studies and technical analyses
for railway lines, linking aspects of the traffic organization (scheduled train paths) and the capacity
of the railway line with the expected number of interoperability trains and economic effects of the railway
line modernization.

VULNERABILITY OF THE SHIPS TO THE PARAMETRIC ROLL RESONANCE
Summary: The parametric roll resonance is a phenomenon, which has already been described in the midtwentieth century. However initially it was only considered as a threat to the stability of small ships. The approach to the issue changed after the year 1998, when on board of a post-Panamax containership, 400 containers
were lost and additional 400 were devastated due to parametric roll. The paper presents a description of the
phenomenon and the mathematical models used in its analysis with particular emphasis put on the Mathieu
equation. Nowadays the Mathieu equation is a key instrument used in the process of determining the conditions
of the parametric roll resonance onset, since it allows to define the criteria of the ships vulnerability for the
parametric rolling. The main goal of the paper is presentation of the results of the numerical simulations performed by employing the Mathieu equation and showing the parametric roll increase in time for a ship in a
resonance area. It is also shown that parametric rolling can occur outside the resonance area. The extended
conditions for the parametric rolling onset and increasing are defined based on literature and own calculations.
The paper also presents the current state of the vulnerability criteria for the parametric rolling failure mode
proposed by the IMO.
