Abstract Iwona Anna Ndiaye, Uniwersytet Warmińsko - Mazurski w Olsztynie O „PAMIĘCI” W TWÓRCZOŚCI IWANA BUNINA. Z HISTORII ROSYJSKIEJ LITERATURY EMIGRACYJNEJ (1920–1940) Abstract Memory is a mechanism that organizes human experiences and facilitates the interpretation of reality. Descriptions of this experience may be found in literature (biographies, memoirs). In a book, where the registering of human thought may occur, memory has three meanings: material, symbolic and functional. The author attempts to analyze the history of Russian First Wave migrant literature (1920-1940), where a memory is a special tool for narration. This literature is concerned with the issues of losing roots of ancestors; connection to the homeland and the theme of perpetuating memory. To exemplify this phenomenon, migrant writings of Iwan were chosen. Memory establishes the composition and philosophy of his works, and as a whole they are a philosophical treaty on the subjects of human memory, time and transcience. Keywords: literary text, Russian literary language, emigration, Vladimir Nabokov
