opis
W skrócie:
The IBM® Rack-mount Hardware Management Console (HMC)(7042-CR6) is a
(TM)
dedicated workstation for management of IBM POWER5 , or later, processor-based
servers.
The HMC is designed to deliver:
• Virtualization control, including logical partition (LPAR) management, dynamic
resource allocation, and partition mobility
• Advanced service functions, including guided repair and verify, and concurrent
firmware updates for managed systems
• Round-the-clock error reporting via Electronic Service Agent(TM) for fast support
• Remote sharing support for IBM i operating system console sessions through the
5250 Console Proxy
Omówienie
The IBM Rack-mounted HMC provides a dedicated workstation designed for
configuration and management of hardware partitions and Capacity on Demand
(CoD) for POWER5, or later, processor-based servers.
The 7042-CR6 will be preloaded with Version 7 Revision 720 (V7R720) Licensed
Machine Code. New release levels of HMC code will be preloaded and shipped
with HMCs as they become available. The most current HMC code can also be
downloaded from the following Web site and applied to existing supported HMCs
https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/sas/f/hmc/home.html
Application of the latest HMC code levels ensures consistent functionality and
(TM)
support of the latest IBM Power Systems
servers and functions.
The HMC provides a browser-based HTML user interface that can be accessed locally
or from a remote browser. One HMC can manage multiple servers, and dual HMCs
can provide redundant support by managing the same servers. The HMC userfriendly interface provides task navigation, task placement, table functions, filtering,
sorting, and customization of views. The user interface also provides visibility to
server status and guided support of server maintenance actions.
The 7042-CR6 HMC offers enhanced features and performance with the following
base configuration:
• 2.53 GHz Intel® Quad-core processor with 12 MB L2 cache
• 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) of 1,333 MHz DDR3 system memory

opis
The HMC (7042-CR6) has the following standard hardware attributes:
• 2.53 GHz Intel Quad-core processor with 12 MB L2 cache
• 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) of 1,333 MHz DDR3 system memory
• 500 GB SATA SFF HDD
• SATA CD/RW - DVD-RAM
• Four Ethernet ports
• Four USB ports (two front, two rear)
• One PCIe slot
• One PCI-X slot
Modems are available for customers planning to use ESA connection, but broadband
connection is recommended. Either an external modem (#0032) or an internal
modem (#0033) may be ordered. If no modem is ordered, then feature 0031 must
be selected, which indicates that the modem has been declined. External modems
can only be ordered for ship-to countries that are not homologated for internal
modems. External modem voltage capabilities are 100 - 240 V.
The HMC Licensed Machine Code V7R720 provides:
• Memory mirroring for system firmware
• MAC address limits for virtual Ethernet adapters
• Dynamic add/remove of VLANs for virtual Ethernet adapters
• Quality of Service configuration for virtual Ethernet adapters
• Enhanced HMC user password policies
• Command line for IBM i network installation
• SNMP support for virtual Ethernet adapters
• Remote service via business-to-business VPN
• CoD enhancements
An optional Machine Control Program Remote Support Agreement (MCRSA) for
Hardware Management Console (HMC) Licensed Machine Code offers a one-year
or three-year 9 x 5 remote call-in support for "how-to" questions about the HMC
Licensed Machine Code. For an additional charge, 24 x 7 remote call-in support is
available. To order contact your IBM representative or an IBM Business Partner.
The following Web sites provide access to support, installation instructions, and
education, as well as the latest information on new function available on your HMC.

Server information
If attaching an HMC to a new server or adding function to an existing server that
requires a firmware update, the HMC machine code may need to be updated.
To determine the HMC machine code level required for the firmware level on any
server, go to the following Web site to access the Fix Level Recommendation Tool
(FLRT) on or after the planned availability date for this product. FLRT will identify the
correct HMC machine code for the selected system firmware level
http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/flrt/home
If a single HMC is attached to multiple servers, the HMC machine code level must be
updated to the server with the most recent firmware level. All prior levels of server
firmware are supported with the latest HMC machine code level.
If an HMC is used to manage any POWER7
processor-based server, the HMC must
be a CR3 model, or later, rack-mount HMC or C05 model, or later, deskside HMC.
(TM)
When IBM Systems Director is used to manage an HMC or if the HMC manages more
than 254 partitions, the HMC should have 3 GB of RAM minimum and be CR3 model,
or later, rack-mount or C06 model, or later, deskside.
The following servers require an HMC. The HMC is used to manage partitions and
support other critical functions on these servers.
• System p5® 570
• System p5 575
• System p5 590
• System p5 595
• System i® 570 (POWER6(TM) processor-based)
• System i 595
• Power® 560
• Power 570
• Power 575
• Power 595
• Power 770
• Power 780
• Power 795
An HMC is required to manage partitions on the following servers and is
recommended for other critical functions; however, simple configurations without
partitions or temporary CoD can be managed without an HMC.
• System p5 570
• System i 570 (POWER5 processor-based)

An HMC is optional for all other Power Systems servers. For these systems,
customers must choose either an HMC or IVM to manage partitions. IVM is part of
(TM)
the optional PowerVM
virtualization software.
Customers choosing the HMC must use it to create, define, and change partitions or
CoD resources, but it is not required to run the partitions.
An HMC is required to manage more than one IBM i, AIX®, or Linux® partition,
directly controlling its I/O partition on the following servers:
• System i 515
• System i 525
• System i 550
• System i 570
An HMC is recommended for managing all CoD, including permanent activations. An
HMC is required for temporary CoD, including the following:
• Trial CoD
• On/Off CoD
• Funkcja Utility CoD
Multiple POWER5, or later, processor-based servers can be managed by one HMC,
either physically attached to the server or logically attached over a LAN.
