Abstract: The temperature distribution in domain of skin tissue is dependent on many factors, first of all the cooling (heating) conditions of skin surface and the capacity of internal metabolic heat sources determine a course of thermal processes proceeding in the domain considered. In the paper the skin tissue is treated as non-homogeneous multilayer domain. The transient temperature field for successive layers is described by the well known Pennes equations, additionally an ideal contact between sub-domains is assumed. The heat transfer between skin surface and environment is determined by the Robin condition. The initial temperature distribution is uniform (37°C). On a stage of numerical computations the boundary element method has been used. Key words: bioheat transfer, numerical methods. The heat transfer conditions between skin surface and environment and the capacity of internal heat sources are the main factors determining the transient temperature field in skin tissue domain. One can assume that the boundary heat flux is determined by the Robin condition, while the value of substitute heat transfer coefficient results from intensity of convection, radiation and evaporation phenomena. The knowledge of temporary skin surface temperature allows to determine above mentioned components using the well known formulae with full particulars described in literature (e.g. [1]). The efficiency of internal heat sources (metabolic and perfusion ones) is a function of physiological conditions, in particular Qmet changes from 245-420 W/m3 (rest), while the exercise is modelled by increasing the metabolic heat source by a factor of 100 [2]. The blood perfusion rate (determining the value of Qperf) in the muscle is assumed to be elevated to a maximum by a factor of 20 [2]. In the paper the numerical algorithm basing on the boundary element method is used to analyze the mutual Unauthenticated Download Date | 3/9/17 1:57 AM 7 Bohdan Mochnacki, Marek Jasiński Analiza numeryczna pola temperatur w obszarze tkanki skórnej dla zróżnicowanych zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych stanów... Fizjoterapia 2008, 16, 2 W niniejszej pracy algorytm numeryczny oparty na metodzie wartości granicznych został zastosowany w celu analizy wzajemnych powiązań pomiędzy wewnętrznymi i zewnętrznymi warunkami termalnymi (cieplnymi) w przebiegu temperatur w obszarze tkanki skórnej. connections between external and internal thermal conditions on a course of temperature in skin tissue domain. The skin is treated as a multi-layer domain in which one can distinguish the epidermis Ω1 of thickness L1 – L0 [m], dermis Ω2 of thickness L2 – L1 and subcutaneous region Ω3 of thickness L3 – L2. The thermophysical parameters of these sub-domains are equal to λe [W/(mK)] (thermal conductivity) and ce [J/(m3 K)] (specific heat per unit of volume), e = 1, 2, 3. The transient bioheat transfer in domain of skin is described by the following system of equations [3, 4]: x ∈ Ωe : ce ∂Te ( x, t ) ∂ 2Te ( x, t ) = λe + ke [TB − Te ( x, t ) ]+ Qme , ∂t ∂x 2 gdzie: ke = Ge cB (Ge [(m3 krwi/s)/(m3 tkanki)] jest wskaźnikiem perfuzji krwi, cB [J/(m3 K)] jest objętościową swoistą ciepłotą krwi), TB jest temperaturą krwi tętniczej oraz Qme [W/m3] jest metabolicznym źródłem ciepła. Trzeba zaznaczyć, że dla warstwy naskórka (e = 1) G1 = 0 i Qm1 = 0. Zespół równań (1) jest uzupełniony następującymi warunkami granicznymi: – na powierzchni kontaktowej pomiędzy warstwami branymi pod uwagę (e = 1, 2) ∂Te ( x, t ) ∂T ( x, t ) = −λ e +1 e +1 −λ x ∈ Γ e,e +1 : e ∂x ∂x Te ( x, t ) = Te +1 ( x, t ) , – na standardowo przyjętych wewnętrznych ograniczeniach, ograniczających zbiór x ∈ Γ3 : T3 ( x, t ) = Tc , ∂Te ( x, t ) ∂ 2Te ( x, t ) = λe + ke [TB − Te ( x, t ) ]+ Qme , ∂t ∂x 2 where: ke = Ge cB (Ge [(m3 blood/s)/(m3 tissue)] is the blood perfusion rate, cB [J/(m3 K)] is the volumetric specific heat of blood), TB is the arterial blood temperature and Qme [W/m3] is the metabolic heat source. It should be pointed out that for the epidermis sub-domain (e = 1) G1 = 0 and Qm1 = 0. The system of equations (1) is supplemented by the following boundary conditions: – on the contact surfaces between sub-domains considered (e = 1, 2) ∂Te ( x, t ) ∂T ( x, t ) = −λ e +1 e +1 −λ e x ∈ Γ e,e +1 : ∂x ∂x Te ( x, t ) = Te +1 ( x, t ) , – on the conventionally assumed internal boundary limiting the system x ∈ Γ3 : T3 ( x, t ) = Tc , – on the skin surface – na powierzchni skóry x ∈ Γ 0 : q1 ( x, t ) = −λ1 x ∈ Ωe : ce x ∈ Γ 0 : q1 ( x, t ) = −λ1 ∂T1 ( x, t ) = −α[T1 ( x, t ) − Ta ] , ∂x gdzie α [W/(m2 K)] jest zastępczym wskaźnikiem przepływu ciepła, Ta jest temperaturą otoczenia. Rozkład temperatur początkowych jest również znany. ∂T1 ( x, t ) = −α[T1 ( x, t ) − Ta ] , ∂x where α [W/(m2 K)] is the substitute heat transfer coefficient, Ta is the ambient temperature. In order to solve the problem formulated the boundary element method has been used [5, 6].
